people also decide that dana is transphobic because a trans woman voiced the asshole boss (a cis man in the show afawk). trans woman actress literally has to come out and say she enjoys playing characters like him and likes being able to voice both male and female characters

dana puts out an apology saying that she didn't mean trans headcanons for frankie were bad, only that she was not written with the intention of being trans. she has previously stated this is her stance on queer headcanons so this is not a surprise from her

dana blocked people who were throwing parasocial fits over her confirming frankie as cis. everyone decides this means that she IS indeed transphobic and her apology means nothing

You know there are many reasons as to why the anti-AI argument of “why are we automating art and writing? Why can’t we automate the jobs we don’t want to do?” is really dumb

From how subjective the category of “jobs we don’t want to do”(pretty sure a random truck driver in a Teamsters union doesn’t give a damn about art or writing) to the assumption that we aren’t also automating physical labor and jobs “we don’t want to do”(we are, we absolutely are, have you not been paying attention to the last century of automation decimating blue collar jobs) but perhaps the biggest reason is the assumption that automating art and writing is the same thing as automating physical labor jobs

A really interesting(and depressing) reaction to AI Art is how a lot of the anti-AI crowd subtly reveals their true thoughts on manual labour(ers) and unskilled labour(ers)

“AI is taking away the fun jobs!” “Why do we have to live in a world where AI does creative work and we do manual work?” “Robots should be doing the stupid jobs and humans the creative ones, not the other way around” “There’s something dystopian about how the first jobs to be replaced is the Arts”

It’s subtle, but there’s a clear implication in these statements(all of whom are paraphrased from actual comments that I’ve read) that creative and intellectual jobs are superior to manual and unskilled labour, and not just that, but that these jobs *should be replaced* while creative jobs shouldn’t. Bare minimum, it at least implies that manual and unskilled labour being replaced isn’t as important as creative labour being replaced

It doesn’t occur to those who make these statements that people who work those jobs may actually enjoy them, or that the people who work these jobs rely on them to survive, or that manual and unskilled labour have taken the brunt of automation-caused job loss historically, because to *them*, these jobs aren’t worthy of consideration and automation only becomes a societal threat when creative jobs are at risk

It’s a horrid and elitist worldview, and yet it pops up over and over again when AI art discourse appears

As someone who works one of those undervalued jobs, I think you're missing the point of the argument being made. There are most definitely issues with how unskilled labor is viewed which I won't argue with you on. However, this is more an issue of we live in a shitty system where it's have a job or die. The system could be made not that way, but that would require powerful people giving up power that isn't likely to happen. The arts are a very important medium both for fun in this hellworld and to act as a way to criticize that power. Now, the industry is being gutted to produce machine generated content that's friendlier and more cost effective for corporate overlords while people have to toil away in other fields. The people who are making these arguments don't want unskilled labor workers to die. They see a world where mandatory unskilled labor doesn't have to be a thing, but instead they want to take our art from us and make that the only option.

I have several points to make here

1. If their true argument is what you’re saying then “why don’t robots replace the manual jobs instead?” is a very piss poor way of saying it

2. The arts are indeed a medium for fun but so is… basically every other job. Plenty of truckers find trucking fun, plenty of farm workers find farming fun etc. and despite automation coming for them as well, we don’t hear a word about their plight

3. The arts can never truly criticize power in any meaningful way, especially those which are created by big corporations where the job losses will be the most severe. As a smart man once said, “the ruling ideas of every epoch are the ideas of the ruling class”. The arts, so long as the ruling class remains the same, will always remain corporate friendly as they are literally made by corporations. They may have a few “revolutionary” ideas in there, but executives know they aren’t a threat and can’t be

4. Art will still be viable as a hobby. In fact, judging by how popular gardening and knitting are as a hobbies despite their jobs having been decimated by automation, human made art isn’t going anywhere

5. Art as a job is for the most part, not actually fun and subject to horrid working conditions. Overwork, unpaid wages etc. are very common in the industry. Now one may argue that this is not inherent to art as an activity but one can also argue that for every other job like being a fisherman or a mine worker, so why treat art as special when its being displaced?

All I ask for is for anti-AI people to not treat creative jobs as something “separate” or “special” from other jobs

It’s funny because they are completely missing the point of the post which is simply, a lot of the people who advocate for violent activism and violent overthrow of the system don’t actually go ahead and do it in real life
