I keep seeing those really long posts about how to get around all the windows 11 mandatory features and AI and bloatware and I need to get one linux post out of my system about it:
if you're able to spend that much time digging through settings, installing scripts, and/or using commandline, even if it's only while you're following instructions, you won't struggle with linux. you will spend less time doing all of that shit, because your OS will cooperate with you (and you won't have so many things you want to get rid of).
the most 'beginner-friendly' distros have graphical installers that you don't need to delve into too much if you don't want to, try and minimise the amount of time you need to spend in terminal, and have user interfaces designed to let you hit the ground running. there are tons of easy to find resources if you get stuck, and people will help you. if you can follow those instructions about how to get deep into your windows settings, you'll be able to install linux. mutuals I will literally sit on a discord call and go through your install step-by-step with you if you still find it intimidating, or do it for you if we know each other irl!!
I really really promise that linux isn't scary, and especially not if you've been spending time trying to force windows to cooperate with you. You Can Try It.
(obviously some of us don't have the choice about using windows in certain situations -- I can't so much as update software I already have installed on my work laptop, let alone switch operating systems -- but in these circumstances you're probably not going to be able to run powershell scripts or get into advanced settings either.)
confirming:

on the fireside today, Aabria said that she spelled Thaisha starting with "Th" because of Thjazi's name, to match his name and indicate they're from the same culture
A little extra insight here (esp. for those nitpicking the difference in pronunciation) - I think of the orcish "th" more like the Tamil "த" than anything strictly in English. But just like a lot of people that accept imprecise pronunciations of their name outside of native speakers' mouths, the dental stop phoneme that corresponds to "th" became a dental fricative for Thjazi and an alveolar stop for Thaisha.
thinking about this paper I read on the kind of overlooked fact that like. bisclavret’s wife has historically been really vilified but she actually very much does have it really rough. like her husband, in her understanding, abandons her for three days every single week. she has no idea why. he doesn’t explain. no one knows what he’s doing. she really does love him (Il amot li e ele lui) but she doesn’t want to ask about what he does because she’s afraid he’ll be angry. marie de france sets up the whole poem by being like werewolves are horrifying werewolves eat people werewolves destroy. the only way this creature has ever been known to anyone is as something evil. so what is the wife supposed to do when she finds out that 1) that is her husband 2) he has been hiding this from her for the entirety of their marriage 3) who knows if a marriage to a werewolf is legally/ecclesiastically valid! this is something she has to think about! and the knight who has been pleading with her to be with him whom she has rejected over and over again suddenly doesn’t seem so bad when you can’t trust your husband and you don’t know who or what he is.
