Re: Buck cooking vs Buck baking.

Cooking has always been his love language and a way of staying close to Bobby. It's one of the many things he taught him, and Buck carries it as his legacy. He cooks at the station, for his family, for the people he loves. He experiments, tries new things, comes up with recipes and perfects them. Cooking is fun. Cooking is forgiving and flexible, something he can adjust and try again, something that doesn't fall apart if it isn't exact.

Baking though.

Baking is what he does when something in his life is off. It's a way to get some control back when there's nothing he can fix, nothing he can do, and nowhere to put all of it. So he bakes. And bakes. And can't stop baking.

He bakes after Tommy breaks up with him, a way to keep his hands and his mind busy. He bakes when Eddie leaves. He bakes after Bobby dies. He bakes when he moves into the new house, trying to recreate a version of Bobby's recipe he can't quite remember, like if he can just get it right then maybe it will feel like Bobby would approve of this new place, this new version of his life without him.

And now he's baking macarons when Eddie and Chris come over, one of the most precise, unforgiving recipes out there.

Because that's the only thing he can control. It's all just a coping mechanism.

Guys how long do you think it takes for Ilya to do the very out of character, clearly someone else’s voice coming out of his mouth, self-deprecating thing in front of the Hollander parents.

He’s going to say “well, you know how lazy I am, haha”. And he’s going to get hit with a nuclear fucking missile when they not only are confused and unhappy in their disagreement. But fully pull a “why would you think that Ilya??” Concerned parent thing.

David frowns and say now, I don’t think that’s true son. Unless you’re saying you’re faster than me at puzzles without even trying haha :)

Yuna says oh but you’re so hardworking! Look at you with your rookies you train up and with the way you’ve turned the centaurs around! That’s why coaches like you so much :)

Ilya is fighting for his life while Shane just leaves him to struggle with the weight of all this while he loads the dishwasher because he’s been trying to win this argument for ages and now has backup.

Edit: I just had a vision of one of them sarcastically saying “you should be ashamed of yourself!” about something minor Ilya did wrong in a game and him very seriously apologizing and saying “I am ashamed, Yuna/David” the exact same way he does with his dad. Not quite making eye contact, same posture from when they first met. And they have to have thoughts and feelings about it. They’re horrified and all “nooo, honey wtf” and he just doesn’t get why it’s a big deal. So now you can all experience that vision too.

eddie dragged his broken and beaten body all around an unfamiliar state, jumped out a window, borrowed a horse, stole a car, held a woman at gunpoint, used that same woman as a shield to hold her ex-husband at gunpoint, ran toward buck and away from cops holding HIM at gunpoint, and then when it was all said and done drove them ten hours back to the safety of LA with that same broken and beaten body. no one can EVER say he doesn't love buck exactly as much as buck loves him
