The fjords of Norway are truly unreal… like you’re traveling on passageways through huge ancient worlds
(i started this masterpost a month ago… behold, tips and tricks for your procrastination needs!)
1. get energized!!!
so what i’ve found the most helpful, is before you sit down to do your homework or something of the sort, the best thing to do is to start moving! take a half-hour walk/jog. outside or inside, it doesn’t really matter. but what does is that you get excited and that your mind thinks you’re procrastinating (fool that lil procrastination monkey in ur mind) once ur all hyped, take a little break (go to the nearest fifteen, why don’t you ;) ) and then, chances are, if you think about your work a bit while exercising, you’ll be excited to do it :’)
2. put something that you know very well as a background noise :)
so in your mind, there is a little something called a procrastination monkey (check out +this amazing wait but why article to learn more!). in a nutshell, it’s basically primitive(ish? monkeys aren’t really primitive) and it loves to indulge your more luxurious urges. now, you can’t listen to that monkey, can you?? no, don’t. but it fights very hard to be in your mind, so it’s easier to trick it. (just like i’m doing right now, making this post). put on some old movie that you’ve watched hundreds of times, a podcast you’ve already listened to before, a song you’ve heard a bunch of times- anything that’s not new. then study, but don’t really pay attention to it. that way, you can get some work done!!!
3. put the tasks you have to do in small chunks.
see, i’ve found that when you have everything in tiny tasks, it seems kinda motivating just to cross something off your list! speaking of that, make a list of your tasks, anyways. but putting it into small chunks helps you to specify tasks for certain projects, and make things not be underestimated and get things done!
4. put everything you need near you before you start working.
putting your things nearby makes you not waste time getting them. for example- you put your math homework in your backpack, which is across the room. you then go to get that work, and look! you see a book you’ve been thinking about starting for days. so you decide to read a chapter…which turns into two…hundred pages. see what i mean? putting everything in place gets rid of this distraction.
5. bye bye phone :)
put that phone away!! it will only distract you. (i speak from personal experience). however, if you want to listen to music or something, i really recommend the forest app. i really like this app because of the planting trees feature, and i always really like to gain enough money to plant a tree in one of those places! it really makes you feel like a good person, when all you’re doing is doing your work :)
6. motivate scho-tivate
ok but what if you still aren’t motivated?

7. make it known you’re doing work. SCREAM IT TO THE WORLD!!
okay, but doing something like taking a time lapse just ~pressures you~ into doing work, because like ??? a study time lapse of yourself doing nothing is stupid. and if someone knows you’re doing work, and you’re not doing it, they will remind you.
8. my ex’s and social medi-a-a-a
okay more like make social media your ex, but same concept!! get off it. like take me for example - i should be studying for my test tomorrow, but instead i’m making this post! SOCIAL MEDIA WILL DO JUST THAT- make you social. now is not the time to do that. now is the time to go crawl in a hole and do your work.
9. shia lebeouf it
JUST DO IT.
(get ur butt of tumblr and get working. now. you’ll be thankful later.)
the term “revision” and its variants float around the studyblr community, but what exactly is it? it took me a while to figure it out, but being a part of the studyblr community for over a year now, i think i’ve got it down.
revision is the act of re-visiting information previously learned. so in a sense, it’s studying, only you’re going back to what you’ve already familiarized yourself with to keep it fresh in your mind. essentially, it’s fancy for reviewing.
so how might one undertake such “revision?”
mind maps
timelines
rewrite notes
re-read reading assignments
highlight / annotating notes
make study guides (questions and answers)
you could even do this on quizlet / studyblue, or with paper flashcards
cheat sheet with the main information
make a powerpoint on the material like you have to present and teach it
google worksheets and complete them
watch videos on youtube / lectures
make summaries for each paragraph in your reading on sticky notes
have a study party with your friends and teach each other
teach yourself / a stuffed animal (you’ll feel crazy, but you’ll know the information)
take practice quizzes / tests
play games
literally any study methods you can think of!!
tips!
have the information you need to revise all together!! i, for one, get extremely overwhelmed when my materials are disorganized. collect all of your notes, worksheets, etc., choose a method of revision, and get down to business!
start revision early!! just like with studying, you don’t want to wait until the last minute. revision is reviewing, and can be used for studying for tests, or big exams in the future.
experiment with many methods!! sure, you can have your favorites, but after a while, your brain gets accustomed to certain ways of encoding and remembering information. so switch it up!! your brain needs it, and it can be fun for you too!!
i tried to keep this short and sweet and not ramble, but if i missed anything or i need to go into greater detail, do let me know!!

The best studying advice I have ever received
If you can’t find the motivation to get to work on something, force yourself to pick it up for just two minutes. The key word is force; procrastination is tempting, but keep in mind that there is nothing physically stopping you from doing what you have to do.
After those two minutes, if you still do not want to keep going, put it away and go do something else. Even if you stop after two minutes, you will have two minutes worth of knowledge that you did not have before.
More likely than not, though, those two minutes will make it easy to just keep going. Often times, the hardest part is getting started.
Making your own personalised guides is quite different from your normal note-taking. Study guides are more exam-oriented, instead of merely summarising and organising information. It is a tool to help you to study for your exams, and to guide you through answering exam questions. This how-to guide is a summary of my learning experiences in both high school and college, so I hope this can help everyone here.
Goals for the study guides
It has to include everything on the syllabus for the examination
Omit things that are not going to be useful/helpful in exams
There are things that may be very informative, but if they have no relevance to the exam, it’s better to take them out of the study guide
Basically, the goal of making this study guide is to have one booklet/notebook that contain things you have learnt in that course, and most importantly, everything you need for the exam.
That means you (supposedly) wouldn’t have to refer to any other materials unless specified in the study guide
Making this booklet will help you to summarise and analyse information - a great way to study
Materials that you need
If you are in college, lecture notes are usually the most important material you should refer to when studying for exams. If you are in high school, textbooks are more likely to prevail. It depends on your course structure and the way your teacher/lecturer teaches.
Past papers / practice papers are great guidance for you when making study guides, because they help you to understand what will be on the exam paper, and most importantly, how you could answer the question.
Important tip: while making your own summary of the knowledge is useful, write down the model answer from the past paper in your study guide instead. That’s the way you should answer the question related to that topic in the exam, so you shouldn’t waste time putting in and memorising information that is not helpful.
For college students: tutorial questions usually offer great guidance as to what is going to appear in the exam. Putting those in the study guides is usually very helpful.
Organising the study guides
Here are a few tips when organising your notes:
Put a red star next to topics that you think are going to come up in the examination
Circle topics that you don’t understand / fail to grasp when making the study guides
Definitely use bullet points if possible
Highlight key words with definition in one specific colour, or anything that requires direct recitation
Because this is what you will study for the exam, also put down tips that are going to help you with the exams. (You can either draw a box to alert yourself or use a post-it note for these).
Answering structure / attack plan for common exam questions
Some common mistakes previous students made in the exam (which is usually brought up by the teacher / lecturer)
Important concept / clarification of misunderstandings
Remember to leave a page for each chapter and write a summary of it during revision
This will help you to understand the flow of the chapter and it is a great way to recall the information you have just organised

as requested, here’s a how-to on planning for breaks and holidays!!
before i show you how i plan for my breaks, here are a few reasons why you should plan your holiday:
allows you to stay productive!! ensures that you’ll be accomplishing something during the break!
if you have holiday homework, it allows you to stay on top of your work while still enjoying your break!
just stay organized in general, since it’s super easy to forget about schedules and all while you’re relaxing!
alright, so let’s get started. here’s how i plan my holidays:
i use my bullet journal to plan out everything, so if you want, you can do it in your journal/planner/bullet journal too!
i like to make specific spreads for breaks, like this one right here — allows me to keep track and have a quick overview of my holiday!
i often keep track of some important dates (upcoming tests, important events and assignment deadlines) that are coming up during/after the break.
i usually write all of these dates down in a post-it note and create a daily schedule based around the things i have to do. this daily schedule will look something like this (left side)
i also like to set a few goals for the break, often specific to the tasks i need to complete and do over the holidays.
sometimes daily to-do’s are also great if you’re not doing the same thing everyday, just like this one!! i love using post-its for these, too.
if you like, printables are also amazing and do the job great!! here are some of my favorite printables: x, x, x, x
i like to pay extra attention to habits during breaks!! this includes exercise, water intake & journalling!! of course, you should customize this to fit your needs!
remember, this is only a suggestion and if you don’t like my way of planning, feel free to customize it to fit your preferences! hope this helps everyone!! please do give this a like/reblog if you found this helpful and continue requesting for posts here!!
I saw a few masterposts going around tumblr and decided to make one. A lot of these links are helpful for High School as well! Enjoy and please tell me if you have problems with any link.

6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests is by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when you’re away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then you’re good, you know the material. 2. if you don’t understand something, it will end up on the test. so just don’t disregard and hope that this specific topic won’t be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and don’t stop until you finish it and know it the best. 3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you ok now it’s time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now! ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then one of your friends that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do. 4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF IT"S HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you can’t keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though there’s finals because if i didn’t, i probably never would. 5. do homework even if it doesn’t count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, it’s like magic. 6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I do this by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, oh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), i’ll be good and start today. when that doesn’t happen, you say you’ll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like 4 days. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you planned for it ;)
this is A+ advice tbh
I need to make myself do these things more…. Ugh tbh
if you see this post try to do any of these right now
drink a glass of water
put on chapstick/lip balm
clip/file/paint your nails
take three deep breaths
put on fuzzy/comfortable pants
say something outloud that you’ve been thinking
look up pictures of dogs or cats (or any animal you like basically)
walk around your house
go outside (if you can) and look for plants/flowers
take pictures of said plants/flowers
stretch your arms
if you’re sad try to smile as big as you can and take a picture of it
cheer up
it will be okay
