Summary: Abner has a nightmare and you comfort him. Gender neutral reader. Kinda short of a story.
Abner had always had nightmares, about his mother and what she did to him, they had only gotten worse after Corto Maltese. He had almost died, saved by a stroke of luck, you had noticed when he got distracted and saved him. Just in time.
“No, please” he whined. “Please”
You gently shook him awake. “Abner, wake up Abner!”
He opened his eyes and looked at you, he was already crying.
Grabbing onto your shirt, he sobbed “It was the dream again. Just like before.”
“Don’t worry, I’m here” you held him close. “You’re safe”
You brought his head to your chest, you two stayed like that for a while. You never stopped comforting him. Until, He asked a simple question.
“Do you love me?”
“What? Of course I do, I love you till the ends of the earth and onward. You are perfect.”
“No, I’m not”
“Yes, yes you are” you cradled his face with your hands. “You are amazing, okay? A wonderful” you gave him a kiss on the forehead “amazing” a kiss on the nose “beautiful” and a kiss on the lips “brilliant human being. And, I love you dearly.”
He held your hands on his face, looking into your eyes with adoration. He had never been loved before you, he had never even been kissed before you. You were his light, his love, his everything, and he still couldn’t believe you felt the same about him. He loved you more then words truly could say. You made him feel safe just by being there. You made him feel like he mattered.
“I love you, too.” he said quietly, as if ashamed.
“Don’t be ashamed” you say, sweetly kissing him. “I love you more than you could ever believe.”
