≼ 🔥 ≽ Keith smiles as Shiro moves to pet the puppy, shifting his own arm to cradle her and give support to her back legs while still holding her up to him. He’d seen someone with a dog there before, and really it had been on his mind since then; if not for himself, for Shiro. He lifts the puppy further, gently pressing her cheek to his cheek.
“Her. And I actually just found her when I was out. I…figured it was too cold for a puppy to just be alone, that maybe she’d be better off with us. With you.” And maybe both would be better together, each to help each other and help Shiro. That’s what was important. The puppy wiggles in Keith’s arms, happily licking Shiro’s cheek before Keith places the pup against the taller man’s chest, grabbing his left arm and wrapping it under the dog to cradle her like he had. Then he grabs his robotic hand, hesitating for a moment before deciding to just hold it for himself instead of placing it on the dog.
“We could name her together, if you want. But she’s yours. She…she reminded me of you a lot.” Cute. He pauses after thinking that, cheeks staining a touch of red. Fuck…. “She’s black and white! And the eyes!” He blurts his words out, rushing to try to cover up the thoughts he forgot would be broadcast to the other. This was…still new.
A warm sensation pooled within his chest then spread, filling his entire being with a form of happiness he hadn’t felt for quite some time. All because this puppy had now taken to smothering his cheek with wet, little kisses. It was sweet, actually. What was also sweet was that Keith had taken this puppy into consideration while he was out; after learning this puppy was a stray, he now needed to make sure she had the best home possible.
He allowed Keith to manoeuvre his arm to support the puppy, hesitating just for a moment as the red paladin took his prosthetic hand in his own instead. The lightest shade of pink blossomed across the bridge of his nose and across his cheeks but he made no attempt to remove his hand from his grip. Instead, he gave Keith’s hand a small squeeze, the gesture thanking him, the gesture showing how much he appreciated the effort he went to for him when he didn’t have to.
“Keith… thank you,” He spoke with sincerity, his gaze flickering between Keith and the puppy resting against his chest. “I love her already.” He wasn’t entirely sure what he’d call her yet, he’d think on it. “We can name her together. You did bring her home after all.” They’d have to go shopping for her—what did they need? A bed, food, a leash and a collar, a tag, toys…
Cute. The word echoed in his head and he faltered for a moment, though Keith’s flustered expression as he tried to cover it up was very amusing. He didn’t embarrass him by bringing it up, instead he removed his hand from Keith’s hold in order to gently lift the puppy from her position against his chest. Then, he held her out, just as Keith had done earlier and the puppy decided it was Keith’s turn for some love as she licked the entirety of his face, her tail wagging madly as she did so. Shiro held her there as he chuckled. “She loves you too.”
