— about me.

my name is nini, and i use she/her pronouns. i’m a student with too many random interests to keep track of, but they usually revolve around literature, history, and music. 

i’m a leo, infj, type 4, and a bunch of other useless identifiers (excluding bread type, because i have a bone to pick with buzzfeed about that). some of my favorite books include the night circus, pride and prejudice, the invisible life of addie larue, and the raven cycle series. 

i love to play around with different styles of writing and have a penchant for writing long-winded metaphors, creating motifs that will never leave, and playing around with themes of life and death

keres stavrou has been running as long as she can remember — from a family she never belonged to, from a lover who left her her broken, and from a power she wished to be rid of. finally given the chance to try again, she settles down in sweetbriar house, an abandoned cottage passed down through generations of her family, tucked away in a small town that gives her the opportunity to grow without previous resistance. but the house has its own secrets; a slew of spirits are trapped within it, spirits only keres can free... if the life she worked so long to evade doesn’t overtake her first.

ABOUT:

hi! i’m kaelyn, pronouns she/her. this is my writeblr, and my main is @fangsrunin where i post about literature and other aesthetics. 

my favorite books include a darker shade of magic, the invisible life of addie larue, the poppy war and these violent delights. i mainly write in the genres of high fantasy and dark fantasy. i also write for the dystopian genre sometimes.

a country torn by war. a girl who has deemed herself worthless. a boy who has no choice. a goddess who has be bound by her very own.

an outcast her whole life, xuefeng knows she has no place in a society which has refused to accept her. but when the celestial empire of tianxia goes to war, she faces a decision which will either stop the war or burn down the world.

grass stains and twister games — part one/?

he has always taken care of his shoes. they look a little odd, they’re scuffed and worn, and the sole slips off the heel during their better days, but he takes care of them. he can only take care of them for so long.

when he’s a freshman in high school his friends are not quite his friends, but he chases after them with the speed of someone whose fear of abandonment is hot on his heels. the fear will never eclipse his shoes, so he runs.

but here’s the problem: there are four of them.

he walks on the damp-dewy grass and watches stains collect on his shoes like scars of green and brown, and he grimaces as the residue seeps into his feet and sits in the darkness like a cave. he walks and he swallows his complaints even though he can feel someone methodically sawing his heartstrings — never enough to cut, but by god are they frayed.

eventually, he trails back onto the bleached clean sidewalk, all stark-white and sparkle-shine and perfection distilled into neatly packaged squares. his shoes have collected the moisture and the grass skids and deposit them like a damning trail behind every step. the sidewalk is stained. He feels a little stained too.

(are they laughing? they must be laughing.)

because here’s the problem: there are four of them, and there is only room for three on the sidewalk. so one person always walks on the grass.

my mother backs me in silver when her emotion overwhelms her and she criticizes and critiques  in the reflection i provide her until i can barely decipher is it you or is it me?

her body is morphed from the cookie-cutter i share with her her face a collection of features that align with mine her emotions explode like firecrackers i light in the deepest shade of night

my mother backs me in gold when my worth, my expense, must be told and she adores and appraises  my achievements with her iron hold and maybe, someday, i will ask, be bold, is it you or is it me?

my smile is modeled after her suns and moons among the mirrors my intelligence inherited from a past she refuses to remember my thoughts, never excluded, sing her cadence, to her tune

my mother backs me in name only, she in front, behind, yet still i am lonely

and i am not quite unique,  not when she is the atoms that i breathe

so once again, i implore, and once again, i am ignored

is it you, or is it me?

my heart gapes, full (of dust) and empty (of blood).

people leave, and      i cut my heart open to      let them walk out, free. i do nothing to staunch      the blood—      i look at the pain, i smile,      i spill crimson mortality into words      until it looks beautiful      and I can let the      imagined glory of tragedy      numb the ache      i should not feel.

i smile; they fade into      memories and sit on      the ever-expanding shelves      of my mind      (never my heart)—      sometimes, sometimes,      i pull them out      (i can see nothing, because      no tears fall to clear the dust away)—      i pull them down,      i smile,      i put them back      and wash the blood, the dust off      my hands. (they’re never quite clean, anymore).

i’m beginning to understand why alexandria burned oh, its spires extended their palms to the skies above its shelves, a million memories secured in each careful alcove      but for every memory      came another, lingering, regret.

to extend a hand up to heaven was to first  anchor yourself in hell      for nothing remains more dangerous      than a man unmoored

to be saturated by the currency of memory was to first be poisoned by the bitter tang of nightmare      for nothing remains more painful      than the sleeper’s twisted conscience reassured

every successful scholar emblazoned on its walls was another broken boy manipulated by arrogance’s calls 

and even alexandria fell victim to the spun-sugar sickly sweet tang of expectation

(despite expectations, despite ambitions, it would never quite live up to our imagination)

would it not be better to let yourself burn and lose the millions of mistakes others hid in the walls of your stone heart?

maybe it, too, was captivated by the flames and maybe it, too, saw reality blurred within the smoke perhaps it, too, thrilled at the thought of being       another scorched mark in the earth      where no nightmare nor hellfire could ever      possibly disappoint it again.

i am tired so desperately tired, of this world that tells me to nurture my pain. 

there is nothing beautiful about letting yourself drown in the smallest chance you will see how the sun reflects in the water 

suffering is not beautiful until it becomes a detached part of your past but for people like me, who have pain running within their veins, who have bones built of agony and faces molded from despair, it will never leave us.

tell me if the suffering dances in the shimmering light, a caricature of the tears dancing on my cheeks a mockery of the biting words dancing on my skin

tell me how you will take the husk of this parasite and imprison it in your prose, and tell me how you will do so, when I find myself as dependent on it as it has always been on me.
