Break up, Gym, Hospital?
Just like anyone after a nasty break up, i wanted to change. So, a friend of mine dragged me to the gym. I made every excuse I could in the beginning, but time after time that we saw each other, I was finally gave in. I welcomed the change because of the recent break up & family drama that was happening during this time.
I needed an outlet, an escape of my daily life. I used this time to go out, party & go to any hangouts I could &/or was invited to. I donât think a lot of people realized I was depressed or if they did they didnât say anything & just tolerated me for the time being. I wasnât that fun during this time. I lost the person who I thought loved me, I lost friends & lost some people I considered family. I was hurt & hurt those around me, whether it was intentional or not. So going to the gym & working on myself sounded like an amazing idea.
I was going to the gym with my friend at least 5-6 times a week, for about 2 hours. I was very thankful that this friend of mine was there to smack some scenes into me. I was able to learn more about myself & be more comfortable in my own skin. I still had long way to go but it was a start at least. During this time I was working 2 jobs, Amazon during the night, Applebeeâs during the day & school in between. Plus I was going to the gym all the time. Iâm surprised & in disbelief on how I managed all of this honestly.
Thatâs when the problems started thought. I was passing out either at home or at both my jobs. At first I thought it was because I just pushed myself a little too much that day & so I cut down going to the gym for a bit to get some more rest. I didnât realize what I was doing was pushing myself so much & causing my CK (creating Kinase) to increase to very high & dangerous levels. This was the start of me going in and out of hospitals. My first misdiagnosis was rhabdomyolysis. Which is the breakdown of the muscle due to over extortion due to extreme & long periods of working out. This usually happens if you are an athlete or a professional of any kind that deals with working the body out for long periods of time. It was brushed off due to me going to the gym so much & was recommended to just take it easy.
So, I ignored my problem but then it become more apparent that something was definitely wrong. After 6 months of be being in and out of the hospital, the ER doctor told me she suspected I may have this rare illness called Myositis but she couldnât say for sure because I have to see a specialist to diagnose me with that. This doctor cared enough & took the time to see my past charts to know something was wrong & needed help from a specialist. Thatâs how this medical journey started.
