the sun will never set on our love
you wake up slowly to an overwhelming sensation of warmth. still lost in a groggy haze, stuck in limbo between the release of sleep and the responsibility of wakefulness, you reawaken all of your senses one by one. there's the annoying glare of the morning sun shining in through the blinds that you couldn't be bothered to close the night before. noticed next is the shift of the blankets around your feet, much more awake than you as they wriggle to a tuneless rhythm that your foggy mind can't even begin to process as you fight to gain control of your senses.
the last thing you notice is perhaps the most noticable of them all. you finally register the warm body pressed comfortingly against the curve of your back, its chest waxing and waning with every breath like the tides of the ocean. pure white sleeves clothe the beautifully tan arms that wrap around your waist from behind, a cage that you never want to escape from. you would turn around to gaze upon your captor, but don't they say not to stare directly at the sun?
for it is the sun who owns you. should he offer you freedom, you would only cling tighter, wrap yourself deeper in his chains. but his chains are not the frigid metal of resentment and discomfort. the sun's restraints are as warm and welcoming as the air on a day in summer, made of fluffy clouds, secret smiles, and soft cotton bedsheets.
minutes pass, the sun edging its merry way further into the sky, bathing the world in light. at last, you chance a peek at the man slumbering deeply at your back; the gentle slope of his nose, a spattering of dark freckles placed delicately here and there across his skin like constellations of stars, and his lips, pursed in a slight open-mouthed pout as he breathes in air and out sunshine. your sun
as much as the morning pleads to be wasted away, snuggled deeply in the embrace of the blankets you hardly need due to the heat of your lover, you know that it must not be so. you fight against his arms to twist yourself around, putting you face-to-face with what can be no less than the visage of apollo. leaning forward, you allow yourself to taste his supple skin as you kiss every inch of it that you can see; coffee and sunshine linger on your lips even as you pull away to see his eyes flutter open like the beating of a butterfly's wings.
eye contact is made between his deep brown orbs and your own much more awake pools. a silent agreement is made as you meet the sun in an aching kiss that sets your heart alight. you could spend forever like that, wrapped up in his chains and with the taste of sunlight ingrained in your mind. pulling away is hard, but even stars need to breathe.
the smile you treasure so much nearly blinds you as your source of energy and life greets you good morning. you grin happily in return, eager to start your day with the man you love. however, before you can force yourself out of the bed and into the kitchen to prepare the coffee that never seems to taste as sweet as it does on his lips, you utter a salutation to the sun.
