How Draco communicates his feelings after a lifetime of emotional neglect.

1. The tug of the sleeve:
It was no secret that Draco Malfoy wasn’t a huge fan of touching. So when you and him decided to pursue a relationship, it didn’t take long for you to pick up on his habits. For instance, Draco will pull on your sleeve a few times. Very small, almost unnoticeable little tugs. It usually happens when one of you is uncomfortable, as his way of checking up on you or telling you he’s not comfortable.
Draco is a Slytherin through and through, so it’s no surprise that you find him in the library or his room huddled over books. And while you share his urge to succeed and prove yourself, it is nothing to match his. One day after potions he found you in the common room surrounded by books and parchment with tears in your eyes. Professor Snape had insane standards and for whatever reason, you could never seem to reach them. So Draco decided it would benefit you both to start studying together.
While you do share some classes, with both of your schedules picking up there and more classes where you’re apart. This meant some days you went for hours on hours without seeing each other, causing quite the strain on your relationship. It was Draco who decided on afternoon that he missed you after not seeing you for almost two days due to conflicting schedules, to start walking you to your classes, even if it was across the castle from his. He also still walks your route during arguments if for nothing else but to make sure you’re okay. And to just see you honestly.
Some days, when it all gets too much and it gets hard to breath, Draco makes sure that you’re taken care of. He knows your tells so much better than you know them, so he can pick it up right away when you’re not feeling good. Sometimes he’ll tug on your sleeve to ask you what’s wrong, and if that isn’t enough he’ll make sure that you talk to him. At the end of the day he’ll escort you to his room with a plate of food while you two just sit there and talk about everything on your mind and more.
While he isn’t a very big fan of PDA, he is a HUGE fan of encouragement. This goes both ways considering he can feel very insecure more often than not with his father. If you get a perfect on a test, instant praise. Any good grades require nourishment, any sort of achievement, invention and so on. And if you’re on the quidditch team: 1. If you’re on the Slytherin team with him he constantly smirking at you during games and high fiving and cheering when you play well. 2. If you happen to be in Gryffindor, he is actually pretty reluctant to bid you good luck what with Potter on your team and all you don’t even need it. But if you do play well he will eventually come around and congratulate you against his feelings about Potter. 3. If you’re on the Ravenclaw team, if he’s not playing you he’s cheering you on from below. The same with Hufflepuff tbh.
When you started dating Draco, your weekends quickly turned into dates to Hogsmeade. Not every weekend, but most, were spent aimlessly walking around the town or in the warmth of the 3 Broomsticks. It also wasn’t uncommon to find little gifts from your trip in your room later that night, even with your protest. If you couldn’t leave the castle grounds, you were both just walking around campus. But if you really wanted privacy, you would be in the astronomy tower into the early hours of the night. Another favorite was sitting close to one another and talking by the Black Lake.
Since he hasn’t come around to telling you with words how much he loves you, he relies on kisses all the way. Whenever he kisses you he tries to pour all his feelings for you into it. Most times they leave you absolutely breathless.
The first time you heard him say it , you were dozing off in his room after studying and talking for a few hours. He looked up at you to find your eyes closed and your grip loosening. So he took your books and put them away, then rearranged some pillows and blankets for you. All the rustling had stirred you awake, but in fear you would have to leave if he knew you were up, you kept your eyes closed. You felt him lay down next to you. He let out a deep, conflicting sigh before shifting over a little closer. Right before you fell out of consciousness you heard his whisper, “I love you.”
