When Zelos came back and handed him the bowl, ollie quickly downed the bowl of rice and drank the entire carton of orange juice. He sighed happily, though his stomach still rumbled and he placed his hand on his stomach. “I apologise..” he murmured, looking up at Z with a sheepish grin. 

“Do you have like.. a large loaf of bread to turn into a giant sub? That much bread and meat should work. I can help if you need…?” 

He smiled at the larger man as he ate, nodding his head. “I got a big order from the bakery yesterday, yeah. Why don’t you come with and you can decide what you want? I’ve got a few things you can choose from,” he said, patting Ollie’s shoulder. “If you can make it up without fainting of course,” he teased with a light laugh.

While his ability allowed him to travel easily, it was something that he wasn’t incredibly fond of doing. Because of his past experiences and being stuck for as long as he had been, he only did it in times of great need. One thing people didn’t realise happened was when he got nervous, he could actually get stuck half in and half out of a shadow.

As he was at that moment. He frowned, looking around and trying to yank his arm back out of the shadow. He had been trying to get away from some guests, female ones at that, and he had managed to get himself completely stuck between the normal world and his shadow world. “Ahh, I wish Dahye were here…” He muttered, flushing at the thought of his new girlfriend. “She’d be able to help pull me out…”

He looked around, hoping for someone, anyone, to save him at that point. “Is anyone around? Help?” He called out, tugging again to no avail.

While Zelos tended to spend most of his time in his domain in the kitchen tents, every once and a while he wandered out, strolling the grounds quietly. The night was nearly over, and the various performers and crew were starting to filter back to the living areas. Soon he’d need to see to the final meal of the day, but for the time being...

A voice calling out caught his attention, and he walked over. “Em? Is that you? What happened?” he asked, looking over the younger man. “...you’re missing a chunk of you.”

“It would be easier for me to grow things in small batches and honestly once I get the process going, we can let nature to take it’s course. I can do oranges, but lemons and limes have escaped me. Not sure why.  I might have to tweak things here and there, but it should be good for me to check on things. Think of me as the resident gardener.” 

Her face showed a sense of excitement when she had a brilliant idea. “Oh maybe that can be my job at the circus, besides performer.  Think Somi would go for something like that?  I’m still trying to figure out what I should apply for.  I keep seeing the ads, but to be honest I’ve never had a real job outside the circus.”    

“Maybe if we can just get them set up in a hot house, they’ll grow on their own?” he mused. “There’s no way to know for certain unless we actually try.” He made a couple more notes to himself. 

“Hmm, I suppose that could fall under kitchen staff,” he said, nodding to himself. “We can talk to Somi about it and see where it would fit in, yeah.”

Somi barely noticed when he called her name or placed the coat over her but she groaned as she was lifted and she immediately curled towards the warmth. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked up before her eyes closed again. “Ryu..” She whispered, unable to be any louder. 

“Bed.. no clothes.. human warmth..” She was so cold that her body was no longer shivering, which was dangerous. “Need to warm up.. I’m sorry..” She switched languages without realising it. She pressed her face into his neck, and the warmth of it almost hurt.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you,” he murmured as he carried her back to the food truck. It took a bit of maneuvering to get the door to the cab open with Somi in his arms but he managed, carefully climbing in with her and setting her on the bed arranged in the area behind the seats. 

“Let’s get you warm again, shall we?” he asked, mostly to himself, as he carefully undressed her, kissing her hands lightly and rubbing them. “Under the blankets with you...” He bundled her up before removing his own clothes, lifting the blankets only to slide in behind her. He gathered her up against his chest, holding her tightly as he waited for her to start warming back up again, watching her closely.

Paige was excited when Zelos was able to understand her vision completely. “That’s perfect! That’s what we need. I’m kind of excited about this project.”

Paige quickly grabbed her pen again when Zelos started the list of stuff he wanted. “I can place an order for these from my supplier.  The only thing I have on hand at the moment are different type of berries. They’re pretty easy for me to grow or appear instantaneously when I want to snack on something.”  A surprised expression appeared when she realized how that last statement sounded. “I mean I have grown the other stuff before, that’s not a problem. It’s just that when you grow an onion, are you going to want to eat that right away? If you want a fruit tree I would start with apples. I can do apples, the other stuff I need to practice on.  Do you have some suggestions on what fruit trees you would like?”

“Well, I don’t want you to overdo anything,” he replied, looking at her notes. “Would it be more draining for you to grow one large batch of things once a week, or a smaller amount every couple of days? The stuff that’s actually going to be cooked can always be either refrigerated or frozen too, depending on how much there is.” He scratched the back of his head as he thought. “Apples are okay, sure. But what I’d really like eventually is citrus. Lemons, limes, maybe oranges?” he asked.

“I had no idea you were so sneaky~” she said with a grin. She kissed him gently and moved to sit next to him. “I really like it.”

“I have my moments,” he said with a soft laugh, turning slightly to face her. “I’m glad you like it.”

She managed to find him a little while later and draped herself over his shoulders. She pressed a kiss to his neck and smiled. “Thank you~”

He smiled when he felt Alexia leaning over him, setting down his pen and leaning back against her slightly. “You’re welcome~ and happy birthday,” he said, tilting his head back to look at her.

He leaves a small package where she should be able to see it easily, a plain white box with a purple ribbon tied around it. Once she opens it she’ll find the chain he’d bought in Tokyo, with a small lightning charm hanging from it. Underneath that is a note that reads simply “L- happy birthday, Z”.

Alexia found the little white box when she eventually made her way back to her tent. She read the note and smiled, opening the box and smiling widely at the necklace. Putting it on straight away, she played with the small charm before getting up and going to find Ryu.

He was in the dining tent, arranging the usual between-meal buffet for anyone that had either missed the meal, or was Ollie and his kids. Once he was done he stretched his arms over his head, opting to sit at one of the tables rather than return to the back of the truck for the time being.

Paige watched as he started to point some things out in her drawing.  She start to sketch his thoughts out and give them more details.  “I think I see what you’re talking about.  I just didn’t know if we could do that? I mean I don’t think it would be that expensive.” She held up the drawings of all of their ideas.  “What do you think? I love it.”

She put her notebook and pen down on the table. “I like the hot house idea the most, that will make it easier for them to grow.  It wouldn’t take any time for me to check up on things to make sure things are growing.  You have an ideas of fruits  or vegetables you would like to grow?”

“Don’t worry about the cost,” he replied, grabbing his own notebook, making more of a technical drawing with approximate dimensions. “Like this?” he said, glancing between the two drawings.

“I feel like the hot houses will keep stuff in a better state in the cold,” he nodded. “Let’s start with some basics, I suppose? Potatoes, peppers, onions, and perhaps strawberries, blueberries? Do you think we could manage some fruit trees eventually?” he asked her.

Nah, I keep it pretty clean, though Lex sometimes leaves things in there.
