A Little Rebellion - Althaea & Alexia
Alexia knew the rules. She’d been told in no uncertain terms that if you were to leave the grounds you had to have a buddy. Scoffing inwardly at that, she simply accepted and went on her merry way already planning how to go off alone. It wasn’t for rebellion… okay, some of it was, but Alexia hadn’t anticipated on so many people coming after she did. Frankly, she shouldn’t have been surprised but the sudden influx of people had her feeling claustrophobic. So she waited until her new roomie had fallen asleep (again there were so many free tents why did she have to share so quickly?) before quietly picking up her sais and slipping out. The night air was a welcome relief against her cheeks and some of the hidden anxiety slipped away.
Padding softly across the grounds to the boundary she managed to slip under it and head out into the sparse trees. The environment around her slowly grew denser but it just made her feel free. Breaking into a light jog she managed to avoid being smacked in the face by low lying branches by sheer luck. After what could have been mere minutes, Alexia came across a small clearing that was far enough away that she could feel alone but close enough she could sprint back if the need arose. Though, she snorted to herself, that wouldn’t be an issue with her weapons at hand and her lightning always simmering under the surface. Looking around, it seemed to be a place where she could discharge excess energy without hurting anyone again.
Shaking off the faint lingering terror of her first ever discharge, she looked up at the sky and shrugged. She’d never speak out loud about what had happened to anyone but the crippling loss at losing her father due to her lightning had changed something deep inside her. It was a crack that could never be filled in. Spotting a sturdy tree, she headed over and inspected it. Deeming it strong enough, she hoisted herself up into the branches and all but disappeared from sight. Alexia wouldn’t stay long, just enough to recentre herself and to gather her thoughts. With one leg propped up, the other swung gently under her as she rested her forearms on her knee, chin on the rested arms.
If anyone were to look up, all they’d see was one pale leg swinging in the tree and the soft crackle of static from the tree tops. Alexia liked to flip lightning through her fingers like one would use a coin. It didn’t take much concentration anymore and kept the need for discharging down. It was something she had yet to mention to the ring master, but it would come up soon. Luckily, she had managed a rather large discharge before finding the circus. As it was, her eye sight had dimmed somewhat after but it was back to normal. It was the one down side Alexia hated about her manifestation. Too many big uses and her eye sight went like a thief in the night.
Scoffing, she held her hands up and let the sparks jump from finger to finger. If she weren’t so focused on that she would’ve heard the telltale sounds of someone who had followed her.
