Somchit, or Sun as they prefer to go by, moved to Riverport about 1 year ago, they are your bright and early radio host, reading you the headlines and talking about their favorite pop culture moments ( Currently obsessed with the Labubu trend). They exclusively use They/Them pronouns. They are originally from Texas and moved for the Radio host position and to be closer to their family, they have family still overseas in Thailand.  They are open to all connection types (Very excited for friends and chosen family connections)

The Streisand effect?

It was time. Sun had to escape their flat. They had woken from their nap after work and needed to go out, didn’t Want, no, this was a need. A Need to look and touch things they aren't going to buy. No one understood. They had to. It’s important for their health. Sun chuckled at themselves and dressed. They went to Main Street Records, to start. They also had Next Chapter on their list, and if they’re feeling spicy, maybe Puzzles later. Sun liked to keep busy, going and going, it just made them feel good. They loved stepping into the record shop, the smell of the old cardboard, and the music was welcoming; it almost felt like going home, except the music was different; their parents preferred to play music from Thailand when they were growing up. Sun walked to the pop section and started flipping through the records, looking till they found a Barbara Streisand record they didn’t own, yet. Sun gave a small exhale of excitement, holding it up to read the tracklist on the back. They tutted, they didn’t plan on spending money, but... It would add to the collection. 

They looked around and leaned to the person next to them, “What do you think? Yay or nay?” They asked, holding the record to the person. “I don't have this one, but also I didn’t plan to buy it, I don’t know.” They sighed dramatically, playfully. There was no sign of awkward ‘I’m talking to someone I didn’t invite out’ energy. They just had to ask, needing an outsider's perspective. What if they were going to make a bad purchase, what if they were secret streishead too? There were too many options.

Main Street Records wasn't a business Chloe frequented, admittedly. In fact, in the 8 months she'd been in Riverport she hadn't actually stepped foot inside. Still, her brother's birthday was fast approaching and if one gift option were to be a safe bet, vinyl records would be it. Stepping into the shop she took a deep breath, glancing around as she took in the setup, music thrumming in her ears. Stepping towards one of the nearby displays she began thumbing through the options, realizing she actually wasn't totally sure what her brother's collection currently looked like.

A nearby voice pulled her from her thoughts and she turned, offering a smile to the patron nearest her. "Uh..." Leaning forward she tilted her head a bit to get a better look at the record they were holding up. "Oof, Barbara Streisand. I can't say that's what I was expecting to see but hey, to each their own." Laughing, she gave a small shrug. "Listen, if you're into it, I say get it. Planned to purchase or not, life's short. Why not live a little every once in a while?" Extending a hand, she added, "I'm Chloe by the way. I don't think I've seen you around before. Granted, I'm fairly new in town myself."

Sun nodded, listening to her. The smile grew on their face, and they nodded again. “Oh, I know she’s not for everyone, but her voice can get me through anything.” They laughed and help the album to “You’re right, it's too short to not enjoy the records you find.” They said, looking at the record again, “It's one I don't have, and I haven’t gotten a record in age.s” They added with a light-hearted shrug. “We’ll see if there are any other records I like more.” They looked at the store and then back at Chloe, taking her hand in a light shake, nothing forceful. “Sun, nice to meet you.” They smiled, “I’m originally from here but just moved back this year. I work at the radio so you’ve probably heard me more than seen.” Their eye crinkled as they spoke, and looked at Chloe, 

“Do you like it here?” They asked, as they listened to her explain about her recent move, “I know it's smaller than most places.” Sun added, they didn’t hate the size of the town Now, but growing up, it felt suffocating. Everyone was on top of each other, which is Fine, it’s fine. They smiled and looked back at her.

Ellie didn't normally get time like this, time so spend on her own. Normally she was with her daughter, the three year old taking up so much of her time. But today, Eowyn was in preschool and Ellie had a day off. It was too good an opportunity to pass up. So she wandered through town, buying a nice coffee and drinking it slowly. She wandered into Main Street Records, intending to browse more than anything. The record player was still in a box she hadn't opened.

"Oh uh, I wouldn't know. Is it particularly rare? My mom has a lot of Streisand records I don't know the specific albums songs are on. I only know the songs. Is it newer? I'm not always a fan of her newer stuff." She responded politely, glancing at the tracklist. She didn't recognize the songs, but that didn't mean much. Ellie listened to more Sesame Street than anything else these days.

Sun smiled at the woman and shrugged, looking at the album, Streisand Superman. It wasn’t rare, in fact, it’s 5 bucks on Amazon, but supporting Jeff Bezos left a bad taste in their mouth. Somchit would much rather buy something locally, even if it was marked up; no point in supporting the big businesses when they have perfectly acceptable local stores. It's a matter of principle, and what better than having principles.  They flipped the album over looking at the cover. 

They shook their head “No, it’s a pretty common one, it’s older though, I think it came out in like 77?” They offered “Or 1978, so like it’s her older stuff, which is always a treat, I think it’s post Funny Girl, which is a classic, perfect film, no notes.” They rattled off with maybe one breath, it’s hard to tell sometimes with Sun, moving their head with an easy flair and a laugh, They settled for a moment, “Funny Girl the musical, sorry.” They offered after a moment. Sun brushed their hair out out of their eyes and looked at Ellie and turned to face her a bit more. “What are you looking for, if anything?” They asked, leaning against the stacks of records. She looked friendly, and Sun was a person who loved meeting people.
