there a lot of details of american macroculture that have caused what I'd describe as a reality fracturing mental reset when I learned about them. one was learning that children do literally swear their allegiance to the american flag every morning before school and that's not a quaint comedic exaggeration left over from the 1950s like rabbit ears on a TV. one was learning that Americans have to pay for ambulance transportation. one was learning that Americans are taught the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were tough brave necessities that made the world safer and not horrific war crimes on a footing with the nazi holocaust.

Just finished Desert of the Heart by Jane Rule, which I'd checked out from the Queer Liberation Library! Previously I'd seen the film, and while i was disappointed there were no horses, it was otherwise a grrat read! it was lovely getting to know Evelyn again from this new perspective, and to meet the otherwise rather different in specifics but equally lovely cast of characters and settimg for the first time! i havent been able to make it through more than a short story for various reasons in the last 5 years or so, so this seems like a good step at least for me too 😅
Oh, and about the library, they're a United States-based library, but they collect no personal documents/ask for no personal identifying info and only require you to attest to things like residency to access their services,so as long as you're ok with using libby to access their catalog they're doing a good job keeping it accessible!

Assuming they haven't stopped taking new clients by the time i call back I'll have tracked down one (1) therapist who will see me in person and not train ai about it, so yay for small victories! it's pretty hard to remember that most of these people are simply unaware of why they're being given "free" notetaking and just cling onto any lifeline to keep themselves and their practice afloat, and only a few people involved are actually aware and uncaring of the harm being done.
