Making a Xie Lian TGCF cosplay - PART 4 - The Hanfu
For this piece you’ll need : - around 3-4 meters of white fabric, can be stretchy - white bias to finish off the edges (optional but cleaner look) - regular white thread
I used this tutorial below as a guide for mine please check it out. I changed a few details though.
With the base layer shirt complete, I turned to making a new layer 2 pattern for the red layer. This layer is likely some sort of silk/silk
Before starting please know that the pattern is made to fit me as i made it with my measurements. I’m 170cm tall (5'7) and i weight 55-60kg, i usually wear a size medium. Here are my full measurements if needed :
waist : 70cm
bust : 86 cm
hips + booty : 100 cm
shoulders : 98 cm
Here is the video tutorial :
step 1. cut all the patterns pieces you can cut on fold to have 2 long pieces as a real hanfu would be (no shoulder seam, only back seam) or cut the back and the 2 front pieces separately (shoulder seams, no back seam)
Pattern with my measurements : (note that the 90cm measurement is from my waist to my feet, as I’m TALL, if you are shorter please make it shorter)
step 2. sew alongside the shoulders (or back if you picked the second option)
step 3. sew the sleeves on (on the shoulders)
step 4. sew all along the underarms on both side (from the end of the sleeves to the bottom of the hanfu) i left a 20cm slit on each side so i could move more easily (optional)
step 5. fold the long collar piece in half and sew it all around the body piece, right sides facing each others don't do like me and make it ugly...
step 6. finish the edges of the sleeves (i put white bias to make it cleaner) and finish the bottom of the coat too (with bias too :3 )
i chose to use a pin and the belt to secure the hanfu closed, but the right thing would be to add little strings and hoops on each side to make it close easier.
end result : feel free to ask if you have more questions !
Making a Xie Lian TGCF cosplay - PART 3 - The transparent jacket/beizi 褙子
For this piece you'll need : - around 3meters of sheer white fabric - white bias to finish off the edges (optional but cleaner look) - regular white thread
I used this tutorial below as a guide for mine please check it out. I changed a few details though.

step 1. cut all the patterns pieces
step 2. sew the sleeves onto the big body piece (at the shoulders)
step 3. sew all along the underarms on both side (from the end of the sleeves to the bottom of the coat)
step 4. fold the long collar piece in half and sew it all around the body piece, right sides facing each others to make it easier : sew from the back of the neck to the bottom right, and then sew from the back of the neck to the bottom left

Making a Xie Lian TGCF cosplay - PART 2 - the Skirt
FIRST PART : THE SKIRT
1. First step the skirt, I decided to go for a semi circle-skirt. I chose to do a flat waistband + zipper to have it more flat and fitted but you can go for an elastic waistband to be easier.
FOR AN ELASTIC WAISTBAND Hips(wider part of you body aka the ass) measurement divided by 3.14 My hips are 103cm so 103 / 3.14 = 33cm
FOR A ZIPPER+WAISTBAND Waist measurement divided by 3.14 My waist is 70cm so 70 / 3.14 = 22cm
2. Fold your fabric in half and trace a first ¼ of circle with the radius you calculated.
3. The second circle will determine the length of the skirt so add that number to your previous radius. The length i want is around 90 + 22 = 112cm
4. Once you traced that down, you can cut both arcs and DON’T CUT the folded edge. You will have your half circle
5. For the waistband, cut a rectangle that is the length of your waist (or hips) and around 16cm in height. Fold in half and sew it on the smaller circle
FOR AN ELASTIC WAISTBAND just sew down the back of the skirt and insert the elastic in the waistband and you’re done.
FOR A ZIPPER BACK.. Just find a tutorial to sew it. And then close the back.
6. And finish the bottom edges with a white bias.
Making a Xie Lian TGCF cosplay - PART 1 - the belt
You will need : - Shiny grey fabric (NOT stretchy) 22cm/9inch wide, and the length of your waist - blue ribbon (7cm or 2,5inch wide) - shiny silver metallic bias (2cm or 1inch wide / length of your waist x2) - 8 eyelets - blue lace (around 50cm or 20inch ) - regular grey and blue thread Here’s the video showing how i made it :
1. If your fabric is thin like mine : Cut a 22cm x your waist measurement rectangle and fold it in half // if it’s already heavy : cut a 22cm x your waist measurement rectangle My fabric is a NOT stretchy shiny grey fabric.
2. sew on top the light blue ribbon, my ribbon is 7cm wide
3. sew on all sides the silver metallic bias (top, bottom right and left)
4. for the back i did a lace-up/corset by adding 4 eyelets on each side and putting a light blue lace (around 50cm long)
5. for the beaded tassels hanging from the belt i used the one i made in that video :
6. and following the same technique but with a bigger one, i used 8 meters of blue macramé rope, cut it in 3 and braided it, then added the beads and pompom on each side of the braid.
