oh man, this clip’s had everything right under our noses the entire time. i’ve done an intense analysis, and i found something groundbreaking. If i take some letters from the line “why does frank keep a casaba melon in the safe?” i can rearrange them to say “macden kiss”

not to be a clown or anything, but remember that clip of paddy’s has a jumper where dennis winks at mac while he’s talking about banging? that’s happening right after global warming. now, as a tenured professor with a PhD in desperately seeking queer representation and a master’s in clowning, i feel very confident in saying that, when combining the evidence of promos, live streams, and the general vibe, we can conclude that global warming will, in fact, be gay. Q.E.D.

honestly the worst part was that the racist jokes and the uncomfortable kissing weren’t even necessary to the plot or funny. like, some of the other parts of the episode were just fine. frank puking up clams and dennis having inflatable pecs is funny on its own. it would have been so, so easy to make literally anything else happen in this episode. you have a team of comedy writers and this is what you end up with? just immediately regressing to this shit for no reason?? like not only is it nasty but it does absolutely nothing for the plot or the humor. just... do something else. literally do anything else.

really what makes Dee Day disappointing is how the bad elements stain the whole episode. how am I supposed to reconcile between mac telling his ugly bf that he’s a golden god and the horrible racism thinly veiled as ““““commentary on racist things””””” when it’s just a white writer and white actors being tone-deaf. how can I enjoy gay idiot dennis saying he wants sex with a woman to be over with quickly when there’s the uncomfortable non-consensual forced kissing between charlie and dennis that’s supposed to be funny?

it’s just disappointing that, despite what rcg has learned, they still make mistakes like this. and megan ganz wrote time’s up, so what the fuck happened with the predatory gay stuff???? this really shouldn’t happen. especially with the brownface and yellowface. lampshading an offensive thing by doing the offensive thing isn’t okay just because a character says “hey, i’m doing something racist and that’s no good”. we know it’s no good. so don’t do it. this could’ve been a fun episode about dee. ugh. just ugh.

what fascinates me is that for the entire episode, we’re dancing around the fact that despite mac/dennis’s intentions THEY are the ones in the romcom — THEY share a bed on accident, the pursuit of another brings THEM closer together, the camera constantly frames THEM as the leads.

but then the joke never drops? we never get a reveal that the whole time this was mac’s scheme to woo dennis, no one makes a crack at how gay they seem, nothing. it’s almost as if their love story isn’t a joke............
