This blog is about everything and nothing.

I created it mostly for therapeutic reasons. Writing things I think about down helps me order my thoughts.

I will probably mostly post about Darksouls/Eldenring, gaming in general, politics and social science, mental health and whatever else is on my mind.

I haven't been on tumblr since the early 2010s. I don't know how the culture has changed. But looking back and comparing tumblr to all the other current social media sites, I feel like this site might be the best place for me.

Most underused item in Nightreign

The twiggy cracked tear. You die, you don't lose your runes. You also don't lose a level.

Fights in the rain happen often, if you want it or not. If a boss is almost down, people will want to finish it. Use the tear, finish the boss and take your time to select your dormant power. Die, to respawn inside the circle so you won't waste time running

You die near the rain and by the time you respawn, your runes are in the rain, possibly in some random enemy you need to find and kill. Use the tear, go get your runes. Die and respawn in the circle

It's the end of day 2, you are outside of the rain. There is a church or something other you want not too far away. Use the tear, get that thing. Die and respawn.

You are running from the rain and you have a ton of extra rain damage as negative side effects from your weapons. Use the tear and either keep running or go do something else in the rain. Die and respawn.

You are running from the rain, you are far enough away, but one teammate isn't. Drop the tear, ping it, move on.

Just buy it. The normal merchant often has it and it costs 5000 runes. You won't miss 5000 runes. And even if you don't end up using it, you have also bought some peace of mind.

Oh and ideally, before you use it, drop it, ping it, pick it back up again. So no one takes a risk trying to rescue you.

Celebrating the Nightreign anniversary week!

This game has made me almost a mono-gamer. Every time I play something else I get this "I could play Nightreign right now" mood.

There have been moments where I felt like I was done with the game, after having a really bad run. But then the next evening I thought "okay just one more round and if I am not having fun, I know I am done". And I always had fun again.

There have been weeks, maybe even a month where I didn't get to play because I was too busy with other things. But when I have time to play games, this is the game I almost always want to play.

I never thought I would experience a game like this. I often get obsessed with games, but it's usually a phase. Until I get re-obsessed again or find a new game to take over my life for a while.

In summer I want to play at least one summer game this year. But even if I do, I know there will be a couple of Nightreign expeditions in between.

This game helped me do tasks I usually procrastinate doing.

It started after DoN was introduced. I decided that I need to take breaks between expeditions, to calm down and reset. Just a couple of minutes.

Then I started to use these minutes. At first I did small things, like taking a cup to the sink. Then slightly bigger tasks, like starting a washing machine and then taking the clothes out after the next two rounds. Now these breaks sometimes take up an hour. I am really getting shit done. I trained my brain to automatically switch to "do stuff that needs to be done" mode after each run.

The length of each run is perfect for me. It feels long enough to be an adequate "reward" for accomplishing these chores. This works way better than forcing myself to do stuff at a specific date and time. So I learned something about myself.

I am thankful for that

I have almost 6 million murk. I wish I could get someone to do the relic gambling for me.

To me, the relic gamba just feels like work. Like actual job work.

1. Look at the negative side effects, how bad are they in general? 2. If they are horrible, quick scan if any of the positive effects are extremely good. 3. Which character(s) could benefit from that relic? 4. What good relics do I remember already having for that character? 5. Is the new one good enough to even be considered?

By the time I get to the actual fun: 6. What other relics could go with the new one to create a cool new build?, I am already mentally drained and this isn't even the last relic I have to analyze.

(And I also don't look forward to: 7. Your cool relics that would make such a great combo don't have a vessel with the required colors)

A small thing I wish for: it would be cool, if you could also see the equipped relics of the random victors in roundtable hold.

People who regularly interact with the community online, are inevitably influenced by the current hivemind opinion of this community. But the majority of actual players don't interact with those spaces.

So it would be nice to see a broader representation of what successful Depth 5 players are going for.

My controversial opinion: the Nightlord and character quest relics are too good. Unless you go for a wacky or specialized build, they are so much better than the random ones, so they feel almost mandatory. My evidence is looking at the equipped relics of all the randoms I play with. The game already has limited randomization, narrowing down builds takes away from the diversity of runs you experience.

I hear a lot of players wishing for the ability to craft their own relics. I think this would be a horrible idea. It would lead to every character having like 3 different meta builds they can go for, and everything else would be considered intentionally throwing.

Nightreign 1 year anniversary: dreams, hopes, expectations and fear

I'm thinking about deranking myself from Depth 4 to Depth 3.

I want to play Undertaker but it is not fun in D4 (for me). I play a successive attacks build and if I don't find enough damage negation passives, I can't occasionally poise through boss attacks. If I am kind of squishy anyways, why not go full squishy and just switch to Rev. But I don't want to play her right now.

What's stopping me is that if I derank, I go back to the middle of D3. Which would mean that just a couple failed runs could get me to D2, which is also not fun.

today i’m thinking about my fave nightreign moment so far. when i was first trying out strength revenant i was paired with a raider and recluse. me and raider got lucky and got identical giant crusher hammers on our first day which we kept using through the whole rest of the run, completely destroying field bosses and spamming the block at each other as soon as they died. i felt bad recluse couldn’t join in, but it’s funny thinking that they probably thought we were a duo. but nah, me and this stranger just insta-bonded over love of the Unga Bunga. it was so fun

I was playing Undertaker with the Ciaran skin, together with a Wylder with the Artorias skin and a Duchess. The Duchess spent most of the days running off on her own, while me and the Wylder cooperated and fought gaols and bosses. We were basically a duo with 3 player scaling. But we powered through and won at the end. I felt so connected to that person. Like we both didn't give up on each other and tried our best to actually win and not just half ass it because the runs was fucked anyways.

I thought about adding him on steam afterwards but I chickened out. Told myself it was because I was done playing for the day anyway but it was my fear of annoying people and being rejected.

Still think about him sometimes.

As a Zero Escape enjoyer, people discussing the red button blue button dilemma is funny to watch.

I feel like I have been extensively trained for this.

I hope that one lucky day, I will get a round of Nightreign with Scholar, Duchess and Undertaker

In my mind, it could be perfect. Scholar ult -> Undertaker ult -> Duchess re-stage. I don't know if it would work timing wise, but Scholars ult feels long enough that Duchess might have enough time to get another re-stage ready, so she could ult -> Undertaker ult -> restage again while Scholars ult is still active. Plus a third Undertaker ult that isn't triggered by the others. Oh and maybe she could also dodge a grab attack during that time frame for a fourth ult.

But I would probably be a bit disappointed because with randoms it is impossible to communicate timings

I hate it so much that devices are taking more and more control away from you. You don't pay attention for 1 minute and your phone has just installed 3 new apps that are totally recommended just for you (like, just say "here are some apps from companies who paid us to install them on as many devices as possible", no one believes this "we want to provide you with the best experience possible" bullshit)

Every option is "yes" or "yes but later" now. You have to dig through layers of settings to get things close to what you want them to be which is often just how they were in the past.

And why can't you buy anything software-related anymore it has all become SAAS. It feels like death by a thousand cuts financially.

I'm going back to pirating what I can and even tho I am traumatized by my steamdecks desktop mode I am seriously considering switching my PC to Linux just because I can't take Microsofts bullshit anymore.

Just let me use my expensive devices in peace.
