Indefinite Hiatus notice!!!
Itβs so tragic that Jikka survived and returned to Edo, while Shugen died alone, his face crumbling away. But what makes it even worse is everything that led him there.
After losing his parents, Shugen ended up with that clan that executes people. They did save him onceβwhen he mistook some criminals for his parentsβ killers, confronted them, and got beaten badly. Thatβs when the clan stepped in and took him in. But instead of teaching him how to live like a normal human being, how to cope, how to survive his griefβ¦ they filled him with inhuman, rigid, βrighteousβ rules.
They didnβt help him heal. They turned him into something else.
He was just a normal boyβthe son of a simple merchant, living an ordinary life. But the clan trained him to execute people, to suppress his emotions, to devote himself completely to loyalty and duty. That life was never meant for him. Execution was never the right path for someone like Shugen.
And then Jikka joins the same clan.
Thatβs the cruelest part.
Jikkaβhis parentsβ killerβbecomes someone he has to respect, someone above him. The very clan Shugen trusted, believed in, and dedicated his life toβ¦ was also sheltering the man who destroyed his entire world. The man who didnβt just rob a shop, but took everything from him.
Itβs so painfully ironic.
Shugen remained clueless the entire time. Until the very end of his life, he never knew the truth. He never got justice. He never avenged his parents.
He just⦠died.
Alone.
He deserved so much better.
He deserved to live, to understand, to grow. He could have had real character developmentβhe could have found meaning beyond all that suffering. But that chance was stolen from him.
I cried so much when I saw the panel where he died. Even now, just remembering it makes my eyes fill with tears again. I can feel them falling as I write this.
Itβs so unfair.
He deserved better.
He was the most precious person.
//Apologies for taking so long to respond, I donβt really stay logged into this blog as my focus is currently on my Shugen and Fuchi blogs, but-
It did break my heart when Shu died, a part of me wished that it was fake and that Shu got his little happy ending with his friends, but it was not meant to be
I feel like a lot of Shugenβs upbringing in the clan was a product of the times they lived in combined with Shuβs need for revenge or justice- whatever one wishes to call it. I think they knew, or at least Eizen knew that if something was not done to direct Shugenβs emotions that the boy would get himself killed (like him hunting those he suspected to have killed his parents). In those times therapy wasnβt really a thing either so I suppose they made do with what they knew best. Idk.
With Jikka, no one knew of his past transgressions- Iβm sure if they did that he would have not been accepted as a Yamada Asaemon.
Jikka is not my favorite ever, though I think it would be fun to continue to explore his complicated and strained relationship with Shugen.
I think near the end he did have a smidge of redemption, but I think it would have been interesting to see how things played out if he did survive- not only because I loooove me som Shu, but because Iβm genuinely curious to see if he would still turn his back on his friends, even after all that.
But Iβm also not an expert XD Itβs just my ramblings as a silly role player!
Also, also, my replies on this blog will not come often! Iβm focusing on my Hellβs Paradise blogs rn!! <3

Itβs been 4 months, and Iβm still so in love with Shugen π₯Ήπ I do Shugen gazing every day and think about him all the time.
Heβs so beautiful, so cute, so handsomeβit should honestly be illegal for someone like him to exist πβ¨ Everything about him feels absolutely perfect π
//See, someone gets me!! I adore Shugen and Fuchi soooo much! I wish they had more merch available globally so I can have a shrine!!! Itβs so hard to get merch! They are both so handsome in their own way and I am obsessed!
Heβ¦wasnβt sure what to say??
What were these two on about? What did βShugen gazingβ mean? Was this little grey thing watching him? The words it spoke were flattering and confounding all the same.
βThank you?β
Tw: spoilers
Im glad thereβs so many ppl who actually like Shugen and can appreciate the nuances of his character without just dumbing him down as a βbaby killerβ (like chobe and the other criminals didnt do the same henious shit just not explicitly stated in the story), but he had to go broππ
I have such a deep love hate relationship with his character.
His ideals were just notβ¦ sustainable for everyone involved (even to his fellow Asaemons). Even if he half-assed his hit on Fuchiβ I feel like Fuchi would have still been killed (even if he didnβt save Gantetsu)β i feel like Shu would have still had him go through his punishment if he reached the mainland.
I love how much he cares for his fellow Asaemons but I never rlly understood WHY he would forsake them for the Shogunsβs approval. Like he approved of your mass murder against an entire yakuza family and gave you some clothes and a sword, but is that all it takes for you to just up and attempt genocide on both criminals AND your own colleagues??? When I read the manga I rlly thought he was going to save themππ
His character had so much potential too but it all felt flat by the end of the manga. I wonder how things would have been if Eizen survived, would he question his beliefs if he did? would he be open to widening his beliefs if he saw his own father figure team up with Criminals? So many questions snd yet so little answersβ¦ I need justice for my boyπ he did all thatβim not justifying it but i appreciate him sm anyway
boi got killed 2x β rushed writing and his untimely demise by the end of the manga πβ€οΈπ
//Iβve been too tired to write a proper response but also I donβt have much to add because youβre so right, home dog. ππ
Shu is a bit of a complex guy, hell, my morals would probably be a little skewed if both of my parents were murdered while I slept. ππ
Gantetsusai x shugen (according to ch 115)
I need someone to write this with me XD It makes me want to draw something ππ
//I will respond to things in my inbox eventually XD Iβm just caught up with 100 other things including my new blogs and art! @fuxhi @shugxn
What if Shugen suddenly got time-traveled to the 21st century?
I think it would be absolutely hilarious XD
This man would see a car and assume itβs some sort of black magic at first- that poor man would be out of his depth. Lights? Phones? What are those? Still, he is a man of discipline, he would pull himself together quickly and try to navigate this new world, though he might need a guiding hand. (He would def end up in jail)
Iβm too tired to really think this through XD

Gantetsusai slapped shugen , in ch 115 shugen was so...........
//That man looked so pitiful for a moment π I canβt say I didnβt enjoy it, his little wobble. Now I need Gantetsusai threads XD we need more RPers and writers in the Hellβs Paradise community
Wow, I donβt encounter many people who are into Demon slayer and Steven universe
It surprises me XD I figured most people had seen SU, though it did come out when I was a teen so I had plenty of time to watch a bunch of stuff then
Shugen is truly a kind person with a beautiful soul, yet many people hate him. Itβs really sad to see that.
In many ways, he is similar to Sagiri. If he had experienced what the first group went throughβwhat Sagiri, Shion, Tenza, Fuchi, and Senta experienced on the islandβhe might have changed just like Sagiri did. If Shugen had been placed in charge of Gabimaru instead of Sagiri, I think he could have become the kind of person Sagiri is now. Maybe Shugen and Gabimaru would have even become friends, and that bond might have softened his rigid way of thinking.
He is also similar to Gabimaru. If he had someone like Yui in his life, perhaps he wouldnβt have suppressed his emotions so much.
Shugen never even had the time to understand or process what really happened to the first groupβwhat they went through and what was actually happening on the island. On top of that, the shinobi lied to him, telling him that the dead Yamada members were killed by criminals. In reality, most of them were killed by the Tensen and the dangers of the island. If he had known the truth, he might have acted differently than he did in the original story.
Even the killings he carried out were part of his duty. His way of thinkingββSuch unpleasantness could not be avoided. Your execution alone would not stop your wicked ways from being carried on by your relations. The blame in such cases lies not only with the corrupt soul of a single man but also with the environment that produced himββis not completely wrong. In that era, executing even a criminalβs children was not uncommon, and the lives of those children were often terrible. In a harsh way, he may have believed he was saving them from that suffering.
Importantly, he did not act out of personal gain or cruelty. He carried out those actions because it was his duty and because those were the orders given by the shogun.
Regarding the incident with Fuchi, Shugen did not completely kill himβhe could have, but he didnβt. Fuchi might have survived if he had treated his own wounds instead of Gantetsusaiβs. However, Fuchi chose to help Gantetsusai and ultimately sacrificed himself. He believed that his survival, after siding with criminals, could bring harm to the clan. He thought that his actions might cause the clan to fall out of the shogunβs favor, making their lives even more miserable. That is the reason Fuchi diedβit was essentially a sacrifice.
In a way, this is the same reason behind Shugenβs actions. Both of them want to protect the clan. Fuchi was also one of the people who influenced Shugen the most, shaping his deep love and loyalty toward the clan.
But many people donβt consider any of this and hate Shugen so much. Thatβs what makes it so sad.
I really want justice for Shugen.
//This ^^^
Though I feel he would have been much harder to get though to than Sagiri, Shu is a man very dedicated to his duties, even putting them before his own personal feelings- like with the Fuchi incident. He even admits that one must uphold orders even if it goes against his own desires. He didnβt want to hurt his lil bestie, he did it because it was his duty, because in his eyes Fuchi had turned traitor.
I believe a part of him had hoped Fuchi lived, he could have easily killed him like he had the other creatures on the island, could have decapitated him with one slice, but he didnβt.
I donβt believe Shu is a bad person, I never got the hate for him either- and thatβs with Fuchi being my favorite character, hell Fuchi wasnβt even mad at Shugen because he knew his friend only did was he believed was right- what would be good for their clan.
It makes me really want to RP an alternate ending where Fuchi and Shu get to go home but those who survived have to go through a trial/face punishment.
Also I could just be me but I do think Fuchi and Shugen had the closest bond when it comes to their connections with everyone else. Bro didnβt say he just enjoyed their time together, he said he loved it π i canβt help but wish they could have held hands instead.
Also also, if you wanna harass one of your fav executioners, you can do that here @shugxn @fuxhi
You ever heard of Steven universe
//I have!!!
Shugenβs character development would be very interestingβhe truly deserves his own anime or series.
//I love him sm, heβs very complex, you can tell that a lot of love when into making him. I know someone mentioned a light novel that has more about him but Iβve been unable to find it in English as of yet π we need more of him. I really want to see more of his dynamic with Fuchi and the other Yamada Asaemon
(Also I made these if anyone wants to yell at their fav executioners! @shugxn @fuxhi )
Shugen x Gantetsusai
//freaky XD I donβt think Shu would be too happy, though I do love some good angsty hate love- if you catch my drift π I think it would be messy and you know what? Thatβs fair
