Another thing about reader inserts is that after being conditioned for years I automatically think of reader as a white woman. I white wash myself just so I can fit into a story. But I'm SO TIRED of doing that. I shouldn't have to do that. Why? I don’t want to have to change the way I look to be considered in a love story (or any story) because I'm lovable the way I am.

And I know this first paragraph is just talking about race but you can apply that statement to every issue you have with reader inserts. I'm lovable the way I am: dark, light, fat, skinny, tall, short, male, female, nonbinary, short hair, long hair, bald, straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair, part of the LGBT community.

Fanfiction is supposed to be an escape and in that escape I want to belive that I am lovable the way I am. That a story about me is worth being written and told that way that I am.

Because it is. For all of us.
