This is a super indulgent project for me, so I'll be posting things regarding the story here. I tend to try and match where the series is, but I don't mind answering questions about the story in case anyone is interested!

I got the next chapter mostly written, and the one after that is THE one I've been waiting for. Sighhh. I'm excited but at the same time it's hard to be the only one caring 😔

New chapter up! Vibe Trek

"Pressed To Start" is probably one of my favorite chapter titles.

I had to be very mindful of this chapter. The composition was fun to make! But there’s a lot that I had to include as backstory in this, so I had to make sure it didn't sound clunky either. In this chapter and the next, there's a lot of foreshadowing, which was really fun to weave into the story~

Maisie is sort of the equivalent of Spike the foreman? Except, she's not an ass, lol. In fact, she's very justified in her words later. In fact she should have said worse ♡

Fang and Buster are very fun to write. I think they'd get carried away even more, but the plot does still have to happen, lol. They're so not serious!

I loveeeed writing Bonnie and Janet. (I won't spoil who Janet is supposed to represent, but we'll see if anyone can guess.)

Their arrangement is a two bedroom apartment, with Bonnie and Janet in one room, and the bros in the other. They have a living room, kitchen, and 1.5 bathrooms. I was nice to them and gave them a fairly-sized place. I wanted to emphasize that it's a decent place, with a lot of room for improvement, but something they can keep with constant effort from all three of them.

They've definitely lived in worse places before the story starts...

I think my favorite joke in this one is Buster and Fang letting Bon-Bon eat junk food for dinner but not sweets.

Lastly, Buster and Janet are close, aren't they? They're so sweet. Buster even gets along well with Bonnie. I think that he's the more responsible out of him and Fang, solely because of this fact.

Aw, damn. Time really flew away from me! The ao3 curse is real. Lol, because I've been through a lot too.

Anyway, I'm working on the next chapter now. It's gonna be a long one, so it might take a couple of days, but look forward to that and a few more fun facts about each chapter posts I'm going to be publishing in the meanwhile!

News about the new movie also pains me on how terrible and clunky it looks ♡ i can't wait to watch it.

By the way, it's so funny because I take a drastic turn away from that plot. (I have so much planned for this au, I can't enphasize that enough, you guys.)

"Prologue: Run Cold" was written for a long time! This whole story has already been outlined, and I was trying to finish all the chapters before uploading, but it was a really painstaking process, so I ended up sitting on it for a while.

Finally! I decided to just bite it and upload the first chapter instead of making little edits here and there. (Thanks, Bestie, for the encouragement of "yes" when I asked if I should just go ahead and publish it, lol.)

The title is based on the term "Blood runs cold" and, of course, refers to Shelly's calculated plan that involves retreating to get Jacky alone for a one on one fight, which unfortunately leads to her being frozen solid, because Jacky was not alone after all. Shelly was never afraid of her, but that doesn't guarantee victory.

Invoking hot and cold was interesting to play around with in this chapter, from the sun setting, to Mike and Gale, to Jacky's flames lighting up the usually stifling, but now night-chilled town, to the Desert Princess being defeated by an Ice spell.

Jacky's introduction was really fun to write. She's a powerful Queen and obviously, I based her off of Bowser's role. Now, I get that the first scene in the Mario movie is meant to be silly, but I wanted her to be imposing and not just a petty bully right off the bat. (Though, we'll be able to dig into why she's doing all of this later!)

Also, while the Invincibility Star was focused on, it's not the only thing she was after.

Lastly, she retains the Royal Koopa stature that Bowser has. Her design is mixed with Ultra Driller Jacky, with a blue shell and silver spikes. Once I'm happy with a doodle of her, I'll happily load it sometime.

Princess Shelly was always going to be a Dryite, although they're not just wrapped up versions of Toads. (They may not be Toads, but they've always felt that way to me.) I am seeing them as slightly rock/earth based people, so they're sturdier and stronger than the average being in Wanderland. While she is based on the Princess Shelly skin (lol), I am still playing around with a few elements from her Sands of Time skin. (Basically, only the mask due to covering up for the sand). However, her outfit won't be given much importance anyway, so I'm not too worried about it.

Technically, she's based off of Daisy due to the desert kingdom she runs for the time being, plus being the secondary Princess. Funnily enough, endgame ship will be Fang/Shelly. It'll be more obvious as time goes on that this isn't 1:1 to the Mario movie/series.

This story is what made me start shipping Kickshots so much, though, so I hope I can let you guys see my vision through my writing.

I really liked this chapter! I listened to a few songs to get the tone right in this one. From Jacky's angered retaliation to Shelly's general mindset of being an action girl, but realizing she's bitten off more than she could chew here. Not that she'd ever admit it to the bitter end.

Mike and Gale are cute old husbands, too, aren't they?

A very important thing to note about Colette is that in this fanfic, she is canonically a speedrunner. Think Speed demon Mario, lmao! I was talking with my Bestie when I was writing "Toad Town Speedrun" and we were joking that she was teaching Fang the basics in clipping and bugs to places faster.

At certain places in this chapter and the last, (Pressed to Start) I also based certain aspects off of the game Sky: CotL.

Stars forbid anyone try anything against Piper, lol. Colette will be building speed and using every parallel universe there is at her disposal until her Princess is back safely at the castle. ♡
