@ifirestone
Okay so. Gonna post it here instead of arguing on someone else's post. I saw a post saying that the punishment Odysseus is going through in the new Odyssey movie is because he broken Xenia by invading/warring with Troy. But the ruler of Troy would have known that, taking Helen, equals war. War by all of Helen's original suitors. That was agreed to when Helen got married. So it's not breaking xenia. It was a forgone conclusion.
Also. Im not sure if going to war breaks xenia? Because they went to war a lot, but xenia was also a really big deal. Xenia is like, you're a guest, behave properly and you will be treated properly, but neither you nor your host have to accept bad behavior from each other.
hmm my former landlords are trying to deduct a frankly off the rails amount of money from our security deposit…my time has come once again
i was chatting with a coworker about this whole saga today and someone nearby popped into the convo to be like “you know, you can use chatgpt to write a demand letter!” and i sort of blinked and went, “okay. i did it myself, though.” and she was like, “yeah but it can tell you what laws and stuff are relevant” and i was like, “i also did research myself.” and she was very well-meaning but she said “chatgpt” like six more times before she left and it was genuinely baffling to me, this insistence on it.
and in the one hand, did i enjoy spending hours researching housing regulations in my state? not especially. drafting this email was stressful. but on the other hand, did i learn a lot by doing that research? yeah, i did. i’m more prepared for my current and future leases. i used some of that info to make decisions about a new renter’s insurance policy. i already told three different people about things i learned that are relevant to their leases that they didn’t know yet. (pro tip: see if you’re supposed to be getting annual interest payments on your security deposit! also look up what specific appliances your landlords must legally provide as of 2026.) i also got to reconnect with my cousin for a bit because her job gave her specific insight on part of the situation, and i’d much rather do that than have a chatbot make shit up for me.
also, i drafted that email with the power of friendship (friends angry on our behalf) and spite (from landlords telling me not to do my research). chatgpt could never.
(we got the money back, by the way 💪)
Please never use generative AI tools for any kind of legal dispute. It does not know what laws or court cases are. It will make up something that sounds favorable to you, and you will get crushed. There are free resources out there to learn this stuff. And sometimes attorneys will offer free consultations or volunteer at a free legal clinic. OP didn't just do it themselves to do extra work or some shit. This is really the only viable way to do things short of hiring a professional to do it for you.
ChatGPT is not easier or faster in matters like this. It is a shot to the foot.
I like this meme because the stock photos make it seem like the same woman but 10 years older.

I just googled this and… yes, it’s absolutely real.
And there are so many articles and videos and discussions. Like, the scientific community is buzzing about this.
So much research will have to be redone because the data was absolutely compromised, off by orders of magnitude, by using standard lab gloves.
The world is probably not horrifically contaminated by microplastics. Sterile laboratories, however, are contaminated by latex and nitrile gloves.
Thank God someone bothered to check.
>I just googled this and… yes, it’s absolutely real.
Sources beyond dude just trust me, for the skeptics.
Scientists may have been unknowingly inflating microplastics pollution estimates, and the surprising source could be their own lab gloves. A

Ordinary Lab Gloves May Have Skewed Microplastic Data: That doesn’t mean microplastics aren’t a problem, though
That should be enough
how did they not fucking account for this. sorry but this is really really stupid
this is so funny.
@3liza they didn’t account for it because they didn’t realize it was an issue. The particles the gloves are shedding are not microplastics but they are similar enough in composition and under an electron microscope that because the scientists didn’t know to account for them, they didn’t realize that’s what they were seeing.
Also they DID account for contamination in WET sample preparation, because they’d already learned previously that the nitrile gloves could contaminate wet samples, but this was the first discovery that they were contaminating DRY or AIRBORNE samples as well.
All of this was very clearly laid out in just the last provided link - i didn’t even have to read all of them to learn this, I read like 3 paragraphs of the nautil.us article and I was able to learn what happened and why it hadn’t been accounted for.
Like, I understand the frustration, but this is the sort of thing that has to be DISCOVERED before it can be accounted for, and this is what that kind of discovery looks like, and berating scientists for not already knowing something science hadn’t yet learned is kind of a pointless and bad faith approach to things.
We’ve learned that a lot of the studies done on microplastics in our environment were not actually accurate, and had unintentionally incorrectly inflated numbers of microplastics in their samples due to this issue, which means that while microplastics are still obviously a problem, they’re not as overwhelming large of a problem than we thought! This is a good thing! Science has done its job and we have learned new things and can now do even better science! There’s no reason to be angry at or berate the scientists who’ve gone before. We know better now. That’s the important part.
kitten fever is worse than baby fever because a kitten is way easier to obtain than a baby so it's more dangerous
if the season is right, baby chicken fever can be even worse because you can just give the store five dollars and you have a chicken now.
this trend of shitting on peer-reviewed academic studies in favor of tweeting “we already knew this was happening” is so soul-crushing. not to be an elitist cunt, but we have got to open the schools again. people genuinely seem to have forgotten that their personal lived experience isn’t indicative of the larger population, AND IF IT IS…… then you need researchers to support these assertions from a relevant data pool instead of a blog post from 2013 💀

Younger brother was just telling me about all the 'scummy' things he's seen from toby fox,(putting merch ads in games and having special release for the Nintendo console) and its just like, buddy that's been going on since at least 1998. I think the problem is that toby fox is in the video game industry and you're holding him to a different standard than anyone else. Of course you're going to be disappointed.
My favorite pirate joke is “why does it take pirates so long to learn the alphabet? Because they spend years at c” not because it’s THAT funny but because it’s a relatively simple joke that nobody ive told it to has ever correctly guessed the punchline for because they all think it’s gonna be a joke about arrrr
Another classic is
“Why couldn’t the pirates play cards? Because the captain was standing on the deck!”
For more hilarious pirate jokes like these go to google and type pirate jokes into the search bar and click search
Sorry for the double reblog I just wanted to let everyone know that I told the first joke to my dad and he hung up on me.
hey @somarysueme, if it makes you feel better, I called my dad and told him the first joke and he said “I CANT HEAR YOU IM WORKING” and it hung up in the middle of me laughing at the joke myself while on weed
Peace and love pissing off our dads 😌
