How This Website Has Helped (and Hurt) Me
Roleplaying on Tumblr has been a fun experience since I started, and I’ve made many great friends along the way, learned more about myself, the world around me, and how to handle certain situations I’ve never known of before.
But before we get to the good, we must get to the bad, as well as the ugly.
Starting with the bad, the people of this site seem to focus heavily on offending no one, and fighting for what they feel is right. While I agree with this, I don’t agree with how many people go about tit, turning others into social outcasts based on a view system they didn’t know was problematic, or the mistake they made based upon how they feel. Protecting what you believe in and fighting tooth and nail is an honorable thing to do, but you must do so in a calm and collected matter.
To scream and cry each time something goes wrong is the wrong way to go about things in my opinion, and the fear of saying one wrong thing and setting everyone off has been a consistent stress in my years of blogging here, I feel as though I cannot make a mistake, or I will be deemed an outcast and an abuser; which is my next topic.
The ugly, in this case, is how many individuals use terms like abuse and abuser loosely, turning those with real abuse issues into something less serious. Just because you have disagreed and argued with someone does not make them an abuser, nor does it make you an abuser. While I am aware that we as human beings are very toxic to others often, it is not abusive for someone to ask to be treated as a human being with the same rights every living thing deserves. Because you dislike someone does not make it your right to make everyone hate them.
There is no obligation to interact with these people, and there is no reason to continuously stress both yourself and others out over something that can be solved by simple a block.
I understand some individuals take things too far, some people will continuously harass you until they can defeat you, and in those cases I understand the cry for help, but feeding someone what they want, in these cases a reaction, is unhelpful. Things will bother you if you let them bother you, and while I understand things like illnesses and issues in body, mind, spirit, and anything else, can affect how you handle things, the simplest way to do things is to ignore and delete harmful messages.
The people of this site seem to feel as though being right is the ultimate power, and seeking approval of others is all that matters. I personally have felt this way numerous times, and it is like a sickness of the mind, it seeps into you and grabs hold tightly.
Attention from strangers means nothing.
This is something I wish I had learned earlier.
The good is simply the easy access to people that are much like you, and that is something that I am very thankful for. But due to the overwhelming amounts of bad and ugly I see on a daily basis, some of which can send me into fits that can lead to self destructive behaviour, I’ve come to the conclusion that I must leave for long periods of time, and visit this site only in my down time, I should not let the words of others affect me ever so heavily, and I should always keep in mind that believe it or not, I can simply stop any fighting by turning the computer off until things blow over. I am a good person to myself and my friends, and the sheep that follow the gossip blindly are of no importance to me.
In the end, this is a goodbye post, as I’ve decided it best to stop visiting so frequently.
