Jess & Trish in the trailer of Jessica Jones Season Three (2019)
@theyeardecembered : 🍎 Our muses going apple picking. TINIES.
Trish can’t remember the last time she went anywhere that took this long to get to outside the city. In the car for over an hour and a half not because of gridlock traffic or some bullshit on the BQE? Unheard of.
But here she is, actually driving a car, and there’s green everywhere. Well, a lot of green but some of that picture perfect leaf shading off in the distance. She can even see some of the foothills of the mountains toward the horizon. It’s so fucking... pretty. In a totally different way than Trish finds the city pretty. It looks like a greeting card.
As much as she’s been half-annoyed this entire drive, maybe Max was right. ( Trish may or may not ever admit that. Maybe later. Who knows? ) Maybe they needed to get out a little bit.
Glancing over at her passenger, Trish smiles. Max almost seems pressed against the window, staring out at the scenery around them as they approach the orchard.
“You’d think you’ve never seen trees before.”
Ignore that she herself was just silently sort of marveling about all of it. Shhh.

Another one of those situations where Dorothy is talking about acting, but Trish is going to apply it in heroism too. I’ve mentioned in a few analysis posts that Trish doesn’t just want to be a hero, she wants to be the hero.
Even more fitting considering what Dorothy says earlier:
The show is called Jessica Jones, not Hellcat. I’m not sure if they put the word hell in there intentionally as a Hellcat nod or not, but it makes it even better. Being Jessica’s best friend wasn’t enough for Trish, and being her sidekick wasn’t either.
You can also compare this to the realization Alisa had at the end of Jessica Jones Season 2. “Maybe I don’t have to be amazing… Maybe I just made you.”
Sometimes, Trish has to remind herself that this-- this kind of quiet, still, almost boredom-- is a gift. The hours have crawled by, tedium, as she’s perched herself on the edge of the deck, binoculars in hand. It’s not her least favorite security shift, but it doesn’t exactly get her blood flowing. Every half an hour, she and her buddy, Jen, they get to switch places, rotating forty-five degrees around the circular walkway for a different vantage point and, man, that’s when the excitement really kicks in.
There are other details out across the town, she knows. Some are walking the perimeter. Some are stationed at the community checkpoints. Some are out patrolling further into the island. ( Those are her favorite shifts. ) But, mostly, they all find themselves uneventful. The perks of being on an island, she supposes. It severely limits the number of infected they have to handle.
The number of non-infected, too. Boats aren’t exactly plentiful anymore.
Glancing down at her watch, Trish notes the time before lifting binoculars back to her eyes and turning to look out over the coast and then the ocean beyond. It’s humbling, really, when she thinks about it. All that blue. Peaceful. She wonders if the ocean knows what’s happened-- how thoroughly humanity has ruined itself-- how--
Wait.
“What?”
Every muscle in her body is suddenly tense-- every nerve-ending alight. Anticipation beats quickly in her chest, and she leans forward, refocusing and--
“Holy shit.” She can’t believe it. “Boat.” Then, voice raised. “Boat!”
Just there, up the coast at the next small jutting of empty shoreline outside town. A boat. A person.
Setting the binoculars down, Trish hurries back inside and down the stairs as quickly as possible. They need a team. They need to know what’s going on, and who’s out there.

“Miserable!“ exclaimed Rappaccini. “What mean you, foolish girl? Dost thou deem it misery to be endowed with marvelous gifts, against which no power nor strength could avail an enemy? Misery, to be able to quell the mightiest with a breath? Misery, to be as terrible as thou art beautiful? Woudst thou, then, have preferred the condition of a weak woman, exposed to all evil and capable of none?”
--as poison had been life, so the powerful antidote was death.
