Bird life, this is basic chickenomics Chickens, horses, other farm animals and farmcore in general - chronicling my foray into chicken keeping, I’ve been keeping them for about 5 years now. Expect cute birds, but also honest discussion about animal death, illness, and injury. I’ll do my best to tag triggers, let me know if I miss anything please. !!!TERFS/Radfems, Conservatives & Anti-Vaxxers ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!!! Support SuperFluffyChickens On Ko-fi. Ko-fi lets you support the people and causes you love with small donations
Hello! Because of the extra costs of necropsy fees and the PCR testing I’m going to have to do, I’ve set up a Ko-Fi! Anything helps, and please don’t feel obligated to donate if you can’t, but the chickens and I would deeply appreciate it!
My old baby monitor (that I use in the coop) finally kicked the bucket, I stopped at Walmart to get a new one and, at the register, the only one available in my budget had been recalled! So several nights of anxiety await me until the one I ordered online gets here. Realistically, nothing has happened that would’ve alerted me via the monitor in the coop in years, so it should be fine, but still…
This happens every time I sit down in the coop, haha! I had all 6 on me at one point, but these 4 - Nadia, Katya, Artie and Connie are the clingiest. Mila prefers exploring but is calm and likes hanging out for a little bit at a time, and Sana is still shy but will join her sisters for a cuddle if she’s the only one not sitting on me. I got so lucky with such sweet and trusting girls!
Smoke from wildfires burning in Canada turned the sky yellow today, which was a little unnerving considering how unexpected it was. It was like being in a movie with a sepia filter, very strange. It does look kinda pretty against the hayfield, though.
Chickens practicing plastic surgery w/o a licence (: Sterilize it before it gets infected
Yes, and without anesthesia too! Yeah, I cleaned and put ointment on it as soon as I got inside, it looks fine now although there is a small bruise. Thank you though!
Just got back in from the coop and the chicks literally half-ripped-off a birthmark on my arm, ow w 😭 guess they thought it was a tick or something, but now they know the taste of human blood! Aah!
I like how you woke up one morning and decided that we, the people, deserve to see your chickens. Because I get to see chickens, who are our friends.
Okay, so there actually is a story behind it. I’ve had this blog since 2013, but it used to be for pictures of horses and for me to talk about my riding. I even went to college hoping to be a horse breeder someday. It’s a long story that I don’t want to tell, but I had to give up my dreams, because I couldn’t keep up with the demands of the equestrian world, on account of my disabilities. Well, that and because I was pretty awful at it all along.
After college, I couldn’t afford to keep up with riding lessons, and so I had nothing to blog about - it was all too depressing, even just reblogging stuff was too much. So my blog sat empty for a while. Then, when I got my chickens, I decided to re-use my old blog, and make it about them instead! So it covered up those old sad memories with new happy ones. Well, mostly happy, of course there’s been some awful things that have happened, but I try to keep it mostly positive. I turned a monument to my career failure into an account of my immeasurable happiness. I hope I can share even a bit of those good feelings with someone else. That’s something I can be proud of!
Connie, my lap baby! She’s like a cat, once she decides to make herself comfy on me, I become a prisoner in my chair. And she’s giving me a look like she knows it, too!
Sorry for the silence, been dealing with some rough personal stuff, non-chicken-related. Just checking in on y’all to say, have a safe and happy 4th of July, fuck Donald Trump and everyone who voted for him, but enjoy some good food and fireworks if that’s your jam.
I’m here frustrated trying to catch glimpses of the planes flying over DC right now, while the livestream shows literally everything else happening there - had the newscaster lady trying to talk over an F35 doing a demo, and they still just filmed her face instead. Bleh. At least I’m catching some rare planes in SkyCards.
It’s been very hot here, with the heat breaking only when a torrential downpour comes through, so I haven’t been able to spend as much time with the birds as I’d like. Everyone is doing fine, they hate the heat but all seem healthy. The chicks are growing fast, even their voices are starting to change now! I’ll get more pics and vids soon. Bye for now!
Mila has a very severe-looking expression, with a heavy brow and hawklike beak, but she’s sweet and sociable young girl who never misses an opportunity to sit on my hand or arm. Here she is, trying desperately not to fall asleep - she did not succeed!
Oksana HATES the phone camera and will deliberately scooch away from it when I try to take her picture. She’s still a bit shy with me but will run up to and even sit on my hand - but only when the camera’s not on!
