What i made instead of writing.....
I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw, a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently
Some types of unreliable narrator:
The Watson: is present for the event but does not have the same level of perception as protagonist
The Lemony Snicket: isn't present for the event, reconstructs the facts based on later research, can get things wrong or incomplete
The Ted Moseby: is present for the event but has romanticised and embellished their memory of it through nostalgia to an extent that you cannot fully believe it; is also prone to misremembering or outright forgetting details.
The Katniss Everdeen: is present for the event, is the protagonist, but is completely foreign to the world and out of their depth so they don't quite understand a lot of what is going on.
The Rose Quartz: is present for the event, but due to their personal agenda or feelings of shame hides and embellishes what actually happened in favour of a version that paints them in a better light.
The Big Brother: overwrites what actually happened in favour of propaganda.
The Jonathan Harker: is absolutely clueless about what is going on around them and the genre they're in so their perception of events is tinted by their own naivety.
The Goob: the narrator's own emotional bias clouds their judgement of what really happened.
The Tyler Durden: the narrator is suffering from hallucinations and doesn't realise it.
The Pi: the narrator has survived a traumatic experience and copes with it by turning it into a wonderful tale.
Do not blame me for who I am. The doctor prescribed me 20 mL of #superidiots twice a day.
so i recently got top surgery and this was on my discharge papers after a mild complication
There's something so personal to me about a soft "You really aren't well, huh?"
especially if they've been trying to hide it until they no longer can

✨A Sort of Whumpy Writer's Block Ask Game✨
Currently in the throes of a many months long writer's block, as I know we have all experienced! So, have a game with zero pressure to actually break out of the block! Slightly geared towards whump writers but all may play!
🎬 What was the very first scene or image that popped into your head before you ever wrote a word for your OC?
🎭 Can you envision your OC in an alternate universe? What au would you choose and what role would they be in that world?
😍 What made you truly fall in love with your OC and made you want to continue their story?
🗺 Is there some place your OC would love to go or something your OC would love to do but likely could never happen within the boundaries of your story?
🚥 Is there a character choice or plotline that you regret but is now canon and you feel like you can't change it?
🔨 Are there any whump tropes that you'd love to see your OC's reactions to even though you couldn't or wouldn't put it into your actual story for whatever reason?
✂ Is there a plotline that you'd planned to write but for whatever reason has been abandoned?
📫 Have you changed a significant plot or character choice solely due to your reader's reactions to previous chapters? Are you happy with the result?
😎 Pick one thing about your OC and describe it in detail. (their smile, their eyes, the way they walk, their voice, etc.)
🙈 What, if any, aspect of your OC is a little slice of you put down on paper? A little quirk, personality trait, mannerism, view of the world, etc.?
🤯 Is there a plotline that you feel is too complex or overwhelming for any reason and you know you'll likely never write it but you think about it longingly from time to time?
🧜♂️ If your OC could choose to be a nonhuman character, what do you think they would choose? If they are a nonhuman character, would they choose to be human or another sort of nonhuman character?
📃 List a few words, without any explanation, that have to do with ideas you have for future stories or chapters that may or may not ever get written.
🥇 Pick one aspect of your story that you are particularly fond of. Anything at all.
🪁 Are there other writer's OCs that you think your OC would really get along with?
🔪 Are there any other writer's whumper/whumpee OCs you think would be particularly interesting for your OC to engage with?
🧿 Whether you actually get there or not, what are your hopes for your OC's future?
⏳ Would you honestly prefer for your story to have a satisfying, completed end, or would you prefer to continue to forever tell pieces of their story until the end of time?
Reminder that if your writing doesn’t get many notes (if at all) when you share, it most likely doesn’t reflect on the quality of your work, your writing, you, or anything like that junk. People are just busy with life. That’s all. It’s nothing personal.
i feel like all writers just need like....an oc story. and i dont mean like a story just with original characters. i mean like a piece of writing that simply makes your brain go wheeeeeeeeeee and its at the level of something your 13 year old self would write and post to deviantart. its liberating. its freeing. its comforting. my ocs are all gay and overpowered as fuck and there's really no plot to this but by god I'm having fun.
I kinda want a zombie apocalypse wip where people survive and don't all fucking die like in The Walking Dead
A Writeblr’s Guide to Worldbuilding Wednesday (WBW)
Since I made one for Storyteller Saturday, I figured I might as well make a guide for my other old favorite, Worldbuilding Wednesday.
What is Worldbuilding Wednesday?
It’s a weekly ask game style event that happens every Wednesday where writers send each other questions about the world building of their works in progress. I don’t know who started it, or how exactly it got started, but I believe it started shortly after Storyteller Saturday became popular.
How does it work?
Well, you announce that you’re participating by either reblogging a wbw announcement post or making your own, and then go find other writers who are participating and send them either general world building questions, like how they do it, or specific world building questions about their WIPs.
I don’t know what to ask…
Yeah, that’s a common struggle, particularly when trying to interact with new people. You can look at the other questions people are sending or what kind of questions you hope people will ask you for inspiration. There’s also lots of world building checklists that you can use for inspiration too. When in doubt, I find that people love being asked about what their favorite world building detail of specific projects is.
Is it okay to send asks to writeblrs I don’t interact with much?
Generally, yes, so long as you see that they’re participating. That is the point of the event, to get to know other people’s imaginary worlds or get to know the worlds of your favorite WIPs better! :D
How do I let people know I’m participating?
You can make or reblog a post on Wednesdays to let people know, or just start stopping by people’s ask boxes and leaving questions. Both is pretty common. You can also add it to your blog’s bio that you’re open to Worldbuilding Wednesday asks.
If you can never remember what day of the week it is, you can schedule your ‘I’m participating in WBW this week’ posts in your queue so they post on Wednesday.
How do I know if people are participating?
Keep an eye out for posts saying they’re participating in WBW, or people who sent your mutuals/writeblrs you follow questions. People who answer WBW asks usually are participating as well.
Also, @directoryofwriters has a site where writeblrs can add their writing blogs to a list of participants for WBW, and a few other weekly events, so you can check here for a list of people who participate, and add yourself to it if you’d like ^^
A final note.
As of all ask games, it’s considered polite to send an ask back to people who sent you one. That being said, it’s not a hard rule.
Also, not everyone will have the time or spoons to answer all of the questions, little alone send them back, and that’s alright. It’s perfectly fine to not answer the asks you get that day if you get overwhelmed. It’s alright if you space sending an ask back. I’m sure people will understand, so don’t beat yourself up if it happens, alright? ^^
And that’s it, that’s the basics of Worldbuilding Wednesday ^^ I hope this helps.
in batman 2022 bruce wayne's parents were killed in 2001 he would have been like 10? i think. the black parade was released in 2006 when he would have been ambiguously high school aged and obviously very emo and unpopular. what i'm saying here is that i think battinson heard the lyrics "when i was a young boy my father took me into the city to see a marching band he said son when you grow up will you be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned" and decided to become batman then and there.
Gerard Way said, “Will you defeat them? Your demons? And all the non-believers, the plans that they have made?”
And baby emo Bruce said, “bet.”
you ever hear a new song and immediately go “oooh the fake scenarios in my head are gonna love this”
