Hi random! Iâm alive! I pop on here and there (once a year maybe)
Illustrations by Lauren Marx
Lauren Marx born 1991 is a St. Louis based artist and illustrator who is a graduate from Webster University.
Animals always have been, and always will be, my passion. They have been the subjects of my drawings ever since I was a child.
I have developed a symbolic cosmology where mammals represent nebulae, birds are the stars formed within the nebulae, and insects are the elements (or âdustâ) created from exploding stars. My hope is that this symbolic representation allows the viewer to see these phenomena as a complete picture of an interacting Universe. Using these animals and insects, I am going to make my own âcreationâ myth of the Cosmos to parody current and past creation myths which are strongly reliant upon animals, to show how humans attempt to understand the epic intricacy of the Universe.

I am absolutely so grateful for superiorleggs because through one of the hardest things Iâve had to go through she was there and was the only person I can talk to that really gets it and knows what Iâm dealing with and I donât know if I could have done thins without her tbh. Thank you so so so so so much. You have been a friend, and someone I can talk to about anything, and like a big sister to me. Knowing youâre not the only one who feels the way you do is priceless and means the world to međđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđ
Omg I'm so sorry I didn't see this! ;^; you are very welcome. I love you!

memes that are more useful than actual class
here is a list of deviantart memes that are more helpful than our character design teacher could ever hope to be. i wouldnât say you have to do all of them, or even every thing in each one (switch stuff up a bit if it inspires you to draw a different pose), but theyâre all good starting places!
Expressions and Body Language 25 Essential Character Expressions - super helpful for different emotions you might not normally draw Ultimate Expressions - same thing but bigger if you have like a YEAR Reactions - expressions, but with a reason! Body Language - body language is just as important as facial expression, so this is a good one to try
Poses Annoying Poses - some tricky things Action Poses - HIGH KICKS ALL AROUND Action Poses II - (for more subdued characters) Character Poses - various, everyday things
Development Different Ages - itâd probably be better to space out the ages more, but itâs a good start Character Variety - figure out what makes them unique Wardrobe - drawing clothes is FUN updated age meme
Other Stuff Character Building - more of a written thing, but interesting if youâre into that kind of stuff Character Inspiration
How to Make Your Art Look Nice: Contrast by Trotroy
I suddenly had an urge to make a tutorial. Hereâs the one I did for my dA. NOW FORMATTED FOR TUMBLR.

Scott Eatonâs Bodies in Motion Reference Library
One of my all time favorite anatomy references is this handy dandy little webpage here. Â More than 750+ male and female photos in sequence? Â check. Â Outstanding b/w lighting on all of them? Â check. Â All SFW images but enough skin showing where the muscle placement is? Â check. Contortion, fencing, parkour and other poses included? Â checkity-check.
All of that for free? Â Aw yeah.
Go take a look around. Â ;DÂ

The Brushes (Tutorial Part 2)
Hard Round 25 Fading Take your normal hard brush, make it 25px large. Now go to the Brushes menu and click âOther Dynamicsâ, and set the Flow jitter to Pen Pressure in the drop down menu.
Hard Round 5 pixels This is your basic, default hard brush when you load up Photoshop with the regular brushes it should be right at the top⌠no need to change it!
Airbrush Detail Load up default Photoshop brushes and scroll down til you see the soft brushesâ- pick one that is at least 60px large. Open the Brushes menu and click âShape Dynamicsâ and set it to Pen Pressure, then click âOther Dynamicsâ and have the Opacity and Flow jitters set to Pen Pressure as well.
Tips For Custom Sullivan Fur Brushes
these are easiest to use when highlighting, try picking a color that is lighter than the area you are drawing on.
the brushes are pressure sensitive, so youâll want to use these with a tablet. try drawing lightly for softer fur, and push harder for more tufty fur.
just scribbling one of these over your drawing will make it look dumb, trust me. try layering the different brushes, or going over with your own brushes to add in your own details for a more realistic look.
try playing around in the Brushes menu⌠color effects can look really neat with these, see what works for you :]
Rules
you may NOT attempt to resell or redistribute these brushes; if you want to share these brushes with others just link back to the original deviantART post.
please give credit when you use these! iâm not normally fussy about giving credit, but i worked hard on these so it would be appreciated.
