Nobody tells you how much mental illness fucks with your perception of time. How you can’t place memories right. How you can’t distinguish if something happened a month ago or a year ago. How you lose entire chunks. Weeks, months of memories just get brushed away somewhere. What you do remember just ebbs and flows together. You’re never really in the moment so you can’t ever really hang onto it.
can yall stop writing paragraphs on here. bitch i cannot read
Bushwick 6th grader Ciro Ortiz has been spending the last few Sundays with a stand at the Bedford Avenue L stop, giving straight talk advice to straphangers the way only an 11-year-old can.
Like any superhero, Ortiz has a tragic backstory, which in this case is that he’s bullied by asshole kids at his middle school. Even in the face of that though, Ortiz’s mother says that he takes his profits and buys food and snacks for kids who can’t afford them. Truly, this is a child too good for both middle school and this Earth

Be the change, Ciro. From one bullied kid to another, you are doing the exact right thing. I love seeing young POC doing things like this. Proud of you!

lmao funny how cosmo is like “stop with the thick dark brows!! that’s so 2016” like honey it’s not 2016 i’ve had thick dark brows every year of my life and you don’t get to be positive towards me when my natural features are in trend after y'all made me feel like shit for so long and then criticize me for keeping my eyebrows the way they were and always have been even after they go out of style
Watching my toddler figure out how to language is fascinating. Yesterday we were stumped when he kept insisting there was a “Lego winner” behind his bookshelf - it turned out to be a little Lego trophy cup. Not knowing the word for “trophy”, he’d extrapolated a word for “thing you can win”. And then, just now, he held up his empty milk container and said, “Mummy? It’s not rubbish. It’s allowed to be a bottle.” - meaning, effectively, “I want this. Don’t throw it away.” But to an adult ear, there’s something quite lovely about “it’s allowed to be a bottle,” as if we’re acknowledging that the object is entitled to keep its title even in the absence of the original function.

Let me make something clear:
Enjoying things you like is NOT WASTING YOUR LIFE. Enjoying things is the exact opposite of wasting your life. I don’t care if what you like to do is stare at digital clocks or ceiling fans. Immersing yourself in your interests cannot be measured in value.
Forcing yourself to become a blank slate is torture. 0 out of 10 stars, would not recommend.

“In an incredibly bold move, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced last week that, beginning in 2019,works that do not demonstrate inclusivity in their production practices will no longer be eligible for its annual awards, the BAFTAs, often considered the U.K. equivalent of the Oscars. Eligible projects must showcase this in two of the following ways, as the BBC reported: On-screen characters and themes, senior roles and crew, industry training and career progression, and audience access and appeal to underrepresented audiences.”
im mad these are all bangers
Why do they talk like that I hate it
Al-Jazeera is funded and backed by the Qatari and Saudi royal families and will never be a reliable, trustworthy and unbiased news source when it comes to sectarianism as it is propped up by a monarchy that is the largest financier of the massacre of shia muslims via terrorist organizations in the world. AJ/AJ+/all affiliated news networks are, by principle, anti-shia and aim to paint shia muslims as the aggressors and erase rampant, violent anti-shiism in the muslim world that is attested to not only by non-shias, but several independent humanitarian networks. This is the news network that attempted to paint ISIS–a proudly anti-Shia terrorist group that seeks to decimate all Shia Muslims/minority sect muslims–as a Shia organization. AJ is funded by a government whose aim is to cleanse shia muslims–and other minority sects, and non-muslim persecuted minorities–from the muslim world. stop using AJ as your source for issues pertaining to sectarianism.
Uhm, sorry, can you elaborate on what you mean? Do you mean, like, what's ableist is the assumption that the reason someone isn't using a suicide hotline is because they're just too ignorant or incapable of finding the information?
I don’t think that the majority of people who praise suicide hotlines know what they’re doing. They’ve either never called or they called when they weren’t actively suicidal, which is fine, but it means that they’re blissfully unaware of what happens when a suicidal person calls a suicide hotline. At least, I hope it’s out of ignorance, not malice.
If you tell a suicide hotline worker that you’re suicidal, they track the call and call the police. You can get arrested for being suicidal. It’s horrible, especially since they can imprison up for weeks or months without consent or trial. Imagine what would happen if people accused of crimes had no rights, and that’s what happens to suicidal people.
Not only is the entire premise horrific, psych wards are hives of abuse. Victims are verbally abused, physically assaulted, “restrained” with chokeholds, drugged, raped and molested, drugged and raped, forced into electroconvulsive therapy, and even murdered, not to mention doing all of this on tax payer’s money and taking advantage of insurance fraud. You only hear about the extreme circumstances because the abusers have complete control over someone’s release and contact with the outside world, and society has deemed this treatment morally okay. But trust me, it happens in most hospitals. Predators thrive where people have been stripped of their basic rights.
Unsurprisingly, all of this causes PTSD. A system that most people call “mental help” is the cause of mental health problems.
If that wasn’t bad enough, people who have 911 called on them for being mentally ill by hotlines or other people are likely to be murdered before ever being imprisoned.
So, if you’re a disability advocate, educate yourself and help us put an end to the torture and murder of mentally ill people.
FYI: the Trans Lifeline does not engage in active rescue, and will only contact rescue services with the caller’s consent.

I had no idea that suicide hotlines called the police and I’m really glad that I saw this post. I’m sure I’ve reblogged/spread suicide hotline numbers which is upsetting in light of this info. I assume the online chat versions are safe?
According to crisischat.org, which is the online chat that the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline uses, no, they’re not safe. If anyone knows of any that are, please let me know so I can signal boost them.
aw shit, okay. this is extremely good to know.
I’ve had good experience with Trevor Projects hotline but I don’t know if they call the police?
