okay but how vulnerable did cas feel in that moment? he’s known dean for so long. knows everything about dean, from dean’s secrets to his favorite things to the way he rebuilt dean’s body and his soul in perdition. and cas thinks, maybe there’s a small sliver of a chance that this might possibly be mutual. maybe he’s picked up some of the tiny little hints and signs that dean might feel something too. but this is the one thing he doesn’t know with certainty about dean. doesn’t know if dean feels this too- their connection, their bond, their relationship, the feelings unspoken between them. so cas finally makes it something spoken, something known. he’s an angel, who wasn’t supposed to feel anything at all, and now he’s gone and admitted the most human emotion possible. he’s in love with dean. and maybe dean doesn’t feel it too, but cas has this glimmer of hope that maybe dean does. maybe this whole time the love was real, solid, unwavering, and requited.

the way that in the trap dean says "i hope you can hear me. i hope you can hear me." this man has spent his whole life loving cas silently. loving cas in the dark quiet corners of his soul no one can find, not even himself. and then. in that moment. he gets down on his knees and begs for cas to hear him. thinking they may never find each other thinking they're about to die he confesses out loud what he has kept quiet for a decade.
