Ryanair, Europe’s No 1 airline, today (6 Sep), as part of its “Always Getting Better” programme announced new reduced checked bag fees (and increased check-in bag sizes) to encourage more customers to check in bags and reduce the number of customers with 2 bags at the boarding gates. As too many customers are availing of Ryanair’s improved 2 free carry-on bags service, and with high load factors (97% in August) there is not enough overhead cabin space for this volume of carry-on bags, which is causing boarding/flight delays.
To encourage more customers to check-in some bags and reduce the volume of carry-on bags, Ryanair will introduce the following bag policy changes on all flights from 1st November next:
The check-in bag allowance will increase from 15kg to 20kg for all bags The standard check-in bag fee will be cut from €/£35 to €/£25 for this 20kg bag Only Priority Boarding customers (including Plus, Flexi Plus & Family Plus) will be allowed to bring two carry-on bags on the aircraft* All other (i.e. non-priority) customers will only be allowed to bring one smaller carry-on bag on board the aircraft, while their second (bigger) wheelie bag must be placed in the hold (free of charge) at the boarding gate. Inspired by architecture and car industry, the Lite Bizz is strongly eye catching, modern and with a though appeal, perfectly suitable for the modern business traveller. The straight ribs, that gives structure and strength to the suitcase, runs through the front of the shell till the side changing angle of inclination, creating attractive light’s effect. Lite Bizz is Samsonite’s first Curv collection with an integrated fully recessed front pocket. This dedicated cabin size collection is designed to offer immediate access to travel documents, business and personal belongings at the security check-point. The peculiar construction of the front pocket maximize the opening area, thanks to the special wide opening that runs through two axes, front and top. This is a suitcase extremely strong and extremely light, equipped with an highly innovative single point integrated TSA locking system that allows the users to lock safely the front pocket and the main compartment in one time. The suitcase is provided with a double tube pull handle with integrated ID tag and with big double wheels.
The EO is designed as a one-size fits all suitcase for the modern and/or business traveler: It has a main, zippered compartment in the bottom half (the bottom when it’s lying down, that is), topped by a lightly padded, zippered compartment designed to hold laptops up to 17 inches, as well as all manner of work stuff like pens and Moleskines and copies of the New Yorker. This party in the back, business in the front setup is quite effective when you’re using the EO as a carryon. Access to your lappy is fast and easy; just slide the zipper and flip open the front lid and you’ll find it nestled in a soft furry sleeve. It’s the simplest, fastest solution to stashing a computer in carryon that I’ve seen yet. There are some downsides to this design, though. The EO has enough padding to protect your Macbook or other device from normal bumps and bruises, but I’d be loathe to check it at the airline counter without more protection (such as aforementioned sleeve, perhaps). Of course, I’d be loathe to check my laptop under any circumstances, but if taking one last run in the Whistler Bike Park made you late to the gate and the overhead bins were full and you no choice, well, you’d probably want to nestle it in your clothes in the main compartment. Volume is a tidy 40 liters, with an expansion zipper that increases capacity by 35 percent. Incase bills the EO as a “mid-size” bag and whether you agree will depend on heavily you pack. It’s well within the range of a weekender, but I used it as my sole piece of luggage for two weeks in Morocco and then again for a week in rainy London and never needed the extra capacity. Indeed, I actually find myself wishing I’d gotten the smaller Rolling Brief, which will fit better in the kinds of smaller planes you’ll encounter flying into, say, Ketchum. The wheels roll extremely well, the wide handle slides in and out of the bag easily, and, while there’s no hook for attaching a briefcase, my Filson camera bag perched neatly on top as I rolled through Heathrow to the Tube. At eight or so pounds, it won’t win any gram-shaving contests, but even when full packed I never came close to the airlines’ 50-pound limit. It’s funny how a product that’s simply supposed to protect your stuff is now expected to look good, too. The EO Roller, to my eye and in my experience, does that and so much more.

We selected the Rolls-Royce of luggage wheels. All of the zippers are YKK, and we designed the interior for practicality. Everyone’s favorite feature is definitely the built-in battery – it can charge your phone up to five times!’ All this is made better by the fact that the cases are legitimately well designed. Kapono Chung, one of the brand’s creative directors, says, ‘Away is a visual embodiment of the things we love about travel: arrival, community, discovery and an underlying emotional connection to places. We have a bold and eclectic spirit, but we embody it in a clean and modern way.' Peter Karras, also creative director, adds, 'There are subtle nods to the physical aspects of travel, like a hint of a boarding pass, a reference to terrazzo floors, colors evocative of flags, and typography reminiscent of old hotels and train stations. There are a lot of layers of colours, texture and type.’
