Father Olujimi (art by Wolfythewitch)
Father Olu is a calm, wise, reliable and practical Catholic priest in his late fifties, who thinks of his parishioners as his responsibility and wants to help each one. He always knows the right thing to say… or at least he should.
At the start of the story, he experiences a crisis of faith that makes him doubt his ability to help people.
Father Olu is called “peter”, tu es petrus, the rock of his community, seen as steady and unwavering, calm and beloved.
Everyone thinks he knows what he’s doing, but he’s now troubled. Olujimi feels responsible for [...]
He feels like he failed, and this is what leads him to feel responsible for helping Mary, a somewhat antisocial young woman who saw him as a friend when she was at his parish. He gets concerned when he thinks Mary might be experiencing abuse, and wants to save her.
Relationships: Father Olu is much more liberal than his colleague Father Frederick, who is a dogmatic traditionalist. But they are good comrades and friends who have been working together for over a decade, since Father Olu is good at conflict resolution and Father Frederick respects his ability to bring people to the church.
Father Jonas, a younger political activist priest from the Philippines, is new to the parish, but they hit it off immediately. Father Olu feels like Jonas is much more sure of himself, and in his crisis of faith, feels attracted to Jonas’s certainty and wants to know where it comes from.
Father Olujimi is voiced by Lenval Brown, best known for his role as the Narrator in Disco Elysium, as well as Sisyphus Prime in Ultrakill.
