The original "Shock-Rocker", Screaming Lord Sutch. Predating Alice Cooper by at least a decade, it was Sutch who devised the original Horror Rock formula of eleborate costumes, satanic imagery and erry sounds to create a style uniquely his own. I mean, seriously, who can resist a musician who dresses up like Jack the Ripper and gets carried onstage in a coffin by go-go dancers. Sutch's creativity and theatrical techniques are simply a marvel, especially when you consider the direction that mainstream music was taking at the time towards the blotted realm of stadium rock. R.I.P. Lord Sutch.

Supra Vola has tried to keep it real, we fancy the obscure and underground. We know MGMT rocks, but you've already heard of em, so there's not much to tell ya. Lately I've been employing different writers, whose forte lies in a very specific field so we can keep the music eclectic. That being said I've found a track I'm very fond of and want to share. Alas, it does appear to be mainstream. Those that take offense, may want to click a way. I give you Spinnerette. An alt rock outfit with super-groupish tendencies. They've got people from the Distillers, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, and a few others. Don't let that fool you though. play em in public and I doubt many will recognize their distinctive sound.

First of all, let me start by passing kudos to Seth and saying that I greatly appreciate the opportunity to write for this blog. Now, for this update I decided to shift gears a bit and introduce some real heavy, underground shit. Bulbous Creation was a ridiculously heavy psychedelic band for their time, essentially trading in the cheesy parts of acid rock (such as pointlessly-extended jams, singing abstractly about "peace and love", and those goddamn organ-style keyboards) for crunchy guitars and lyrics dealing with Satan and drug-addiction. They only recorded one album, entitled "You Won't Remember Dying", in 1970, and although never officially released, it is an easy find online. The quality is very 1970's-basement like, but in many ways this boxed-in sound only adds to their heaviness. If your a fan of the first four Black Sabbath albums or just like good old-school psychedelic, make sure to look up this underground gem.

We here at Supra Vola have a soft spot for Northen European music. Them Scandies know how to rock. Norway's Grand Island is no exception. They're, and I quote, "Southern Indie". It's really something you have to hear to understand. This particular track, selected for your enjoyment, employs alien noises, southern twang, and some English ramblings. Pretty rad, so check it out.

These guys are pretty old. They started in the early 90's and play some pretty sweet Swedish Folk-Rock ballads. Imagine some vikings beating drums, doing there Scandinavian folk music thang. Now imagine guttural, yet still feminine sounding vocals along with that. Sound odd? It is. But give it a listen and it'll grow on you. If this particular track doesn't strike your fancy they've got some vaguely Celtic stuff, and even some fairy tales, sung to violins and distorted guitars.

Since I stumbled upon them month's ago, The Attack have quickly become a personal favorite. If you can imagine a handful of Mod's getting together and playing early Kinks-style beat tainted with generous handfuls of fuzztone and topped with thinly-disguised lyrics about acid trips, you can start to get a feel of what The Attack was all about. They're unique to say the least, in a sense combining both the aggressiveness of the meth-fueled Mod's and conscious-altering qualities of the LSD-induced pyschedelic movement to create a crossroad-style all their own. Oh, and did I forget to mention just how heavy the bass is over the mix? Pure brilliance. Note that guitarist John Du Cann later went on to form pyschedelic/hard-rock bands such as Andromeda, Atomic Rooster and Hard Stuff (seriously), which are all worth a listen as well.

This isn't my for-fun blog. This is my "I am so super serious about music and junk" blog. That's why I may have to unfollow certain Tumblogs when they, oh, say, post pornography. It's very distracting when I try to update, and my feed is nothing but boobies. What can I say? I'm not a strong willed man.

Hailing from the UK, this band samples, patches, and synthesizes noise into a pretty sick industrial sound. Softer than your average industrial, but just as macabre. I'd say these guys are more Aphex Twin than KMFDM. None the less, this group is pretty damn cool. Check it out.

You know what's awesome? Ethereal, dream like pop that's as chill as it is hip. Candy Claws delivers just that, in a genre they call "dream pop". I heard about them today on an independent radio station and rushed to get them on the blog before some other cool site did. As usual, Pitchfork beat me... in 2010. The important thing is a cool band is getting publicity. Check 'em out.
