1 Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone."
4 Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
Mark 3:1-6 (NIV)
It is so incredibly easy to pass judgement on the Pharisees. “At least I’m not like that!” - I cry to the Lord while reading - and honestly, I almost didn’t catch the irony. Sure, the pharisee’s love their rules, but don’t I as well? My worried heart, my anxieties - I let them hold me captive, and I refuse to live in the truth that the Lord is good. He is the law. He is the truth. He came to do good!
last night, the Spirit allowed it to occur to me that above all circumstances, He is good - or else, do I truly believe in His faithfulness? Do I truly even believe in the cross? If all else leads to death and destruction, at the end of that road, Jesus still willingly laid on the cross. And He has still won. Lord, let my heart not be hardened with my anxieties. Please help me to speak life over my body, soul, and mind. And for a love of all that’s Holy, please let me dwell on what’s good.
