As someone who's studied religious movements, is that a trend youve noticed? Do doomsday/rapture prophecies tend to become more popular/imminent during difficult economic or political times?
Imo, yes. People don't come home from a happy and fulfilling day at work to a loving family and go "you know, I think the world might end tomorrow."
Apocalypticism is cope. And I mean that seriously. The world asks more of you, and gives you less in return, and when people lack the tools to understand why, they turn to ideologies of despair. Apocalypticism is one of them.
