Now we are SIX! My little Iz has come a long way- 6 days, 6 months and now 6 years! ❤️ obsessed with baking shows so she frosted and decorated her own cake and had her friends all do their own cupcakes! ❤️ also very into the idea of sewing. Had her friends sew fairytale characters. ❤️ made own pinata from scratch. She did the paper mache. I may have done a few extra petals (fun, beautiful and kinda zen). ❤️ turns anything broken into a costume or something fun. 🎂Best birthday party ever! Phew. Happy Birthday to the most amazing, wonderful Iz! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl9RZTPAg8c/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Super excited to be moderating this brilliant panel on Wednesday! Measuring What Matters, Fashion’s Impact Potential. With @mairinjw director of regenerative practices at @christydawn, @angelchang who’s boundary pushing zero carbon collection is produced by hand from seed to finished garment without electricity in traditional villages in the mountains of China, and Amelia Meadowcroft who was GM for regeneratively focused Kiwi brand @maggiemarilyn and is now with @reformation It's going to be a good one. So many great insights from these 3. Wednesday 12noon EST on Zoom. Reach out to @jointhecolab or @khurtconsulting to join. #regeneration #impact #positiveimpact #holisticsustainability #respectfulsupplychain #valuesbasedbusiness #responsiblefashion https://www.instagram.com/p/CkrLKwQgjt0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Last week was quite a week! Post Halloween the fun continued with Wacky Tacky silly hat day and Dress as your Future Profession day. Thankfully my future scientist, astronaut, vet, artist, unicorn chose artist 🧑🎨 @colorarchitectkids had messy paints and glitter at Vanderbilt Open streets, and voila, done! Also thankfully I still have my collection of vintage hats. Bananas! https://www.instagram.com/p/CkpcdLStZIy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Congratulations Izzy! I'm so proud of you my superstar Kindergarten graduate! Sound off if you're not into kids singing their little hearts out. They sang this song “I love myself” which I had total mom fail and missed recording most of it, so I asked her to sing it for me again. There really is nothing quite like hearing your kid proudly sing that they're beautiful and capable and that they love themselves just the way they are. It feels like even after all this crap we’re all going through, it's all going to be ok, she's going to be ok. I am so honored that I get a front row seat to watch her grow, learn, blossom, and become the brilliant human she already is. I love you just the way you are. In a perfect world Fashion brands would know all their suppliers and their impacts from farm to factory, through customers wardrobes, to end of garment life; they’d treat all workers, communities and eco systems with respect; they wouldn't over produce; they wouldn't produce things that couldn't safely decompose, they’d take responsibility for their products safe disposal and we would all be operating within the planetary boundaries... Sigh... Sadly we don't live in that world - yet. So we need legislation to help us on our path. Thanks to @senatorbiaggi @assemblymemberkelles and the #ActonFashion Coalition, #NewYork has the chance to enact #legislation with global implications for the #FashionIndustry. Find out more about #thefashionact #NYSbillS7428/A8352 at thefashionact.org We joined the bill sponsors @senatorbiaggi @assemblymemberkelles @bradhoylman @votejgr and @nsifashion2030 @maxinebedat @gcnyc_ @sharonsilbermann @hi_trina @mslidiaalvarez #safest15 and many more to support the bill today. And Izzy made a lot of new friends. #EndTheRaceToTheBottom #ShowUsYourSupplyChain (at Button And Needle) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ5ZC_DgEfN/?utm_medium=tumblr
“Everything in creation is sentient and carries knowledge, therefore everything is deserving of our respect.” As brilliant Aboriginal Scholar Tyson Yunkaporta suggests in his paradigm-shifting book Sand Talk, indigenous thinking can save the world and it starts with respect. He points out that the non-Aboriginal approach (which got us into the mess we’re in) generally has the approach backward. Thinking we know everything we start with directing (demanding and controlling), when that doesn't work we reflect, figure out we need to connect to understand what's going wrong, then eventually, belatedly get to respect. Whereas the indigenous approach is the opposite. It starts with Respect. You Connect from a place of respect. Then together Reflect to create mutually beneficial solutions so that finally when you get to Direct, you’re acting on shared knowledge in ways that are agreed on by all. I highly recommend reading Sand Talk as it is written with Aboriginal syntax which whilst jarring at first, gives you a taste of the way of thinking from the act of reading as well as from the content. I wanted to share this today, as today is a fraught day where I'm from. Australia day, or Invasion day depending on your point of view, commemorates the arrival of the first fleet of British colonizers 234 years ago and the disrespect, displacement, and destruction of the First Nation people and their way of life. At long last there is growing respect for Aboriginal people and belated acknowledgement of their land stewardship including cultural burns to clear out underbrush every few years to avoid the truly horrendous bush fires we saw in 2019. Partly responsible for the shift is another brilliant paradigm shifting book, Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe, which challenged our perceptions of pre-colonial aboriginal civilization, shifting the narrative and belatedly awakening respect. So in all things going forward can we please start with respect? Respect, connect, reflect, direct - in that order. #respect #indigenouswisdom #tysonyunkarporta #sandtalk #darkemu #brucepascoe #australiaday #australia https://www.instagram.com/p/CZL2aaXOWzr/?utm_medium=tumblr
I was gutted when I heard that Thich Nhat Hanh passed away today at 95. I have been digging in to his work a lot lately. There is so much wisdom and beauty in his words and in the global community of engaged Buddhists he galvanized. If you haven't dug in I highly recommend the podcast “The Way Out is In”. I became intrigued by his ideas around “interbeing”, a word he coined to express our interconnectedness - that nothing and no one exists without a whole lot of other things. I've been trying to teach this to Izzy by giving thanks for our meals - tracing (or trying to trace) the journey of the food from soil to plate, thanking all the hands and the elements that played their part in the creation of our meal. It’s a fun exercise, a bit nuts - try it sometime. I’ll post the interbeing teaching in the comments. Enjoy. #interbeing #interconnected #thichnhathanh #zenbuddhism #engagedbuddhism #zenandtheartofsavingtheplanet https://www.instagram.com/p/CZBZsHngTYD/?utm_medium=tumblr
Fashion legend, icon, giant... But the thing that initially surprised me and has always stuck with me was that for all the madness no one who assisted at Vogue ever had a bad word to say about him. He was kind. He was loved. RIP ALT. https://www.instagram.com/p/CY5lb90AHxY/?utm_medium=tumblr
Thank you @khurtconsulting @jointhecolab for featuring me on the Co-lab Career Story podcast, where I was interviewed by the inspirational @grandcolab. I talk about regeneration, expanding our circle if care, the platinum rule, the problem with derisking, understanding the impacts of our products full lifecycle, and what it might mean to apply Marie Kondo’s KonMari ethos to business.
