Hey, guys! If you don’t know me, I’m shifty. I made this comic.
Sorry for up and disappearing like that.
I promised I would be clear about my continuation of this comic, and that’s what I’m doing today.
There are some big changes coming.
You see, this comic is based off a series of fanfictions I’m writing. Thus, the story isn’t actually complete yet.
I thought I could wing it with what I had, but starting at the end like I did just wasn’t working out.
So, I plan on starting over.
This time, I’m going to try working from the start following what I’ve written already.
I’m going to keep the old pages up, as I believe in archiving and not erasing progress.
I will be making a separate chain of links so they don’t get confused with the new story.
However, I will be taking down the tapas version. I appreciate the support over there, but it’s too complicated for me to leave it up when you can’t archive chapters.
I’m going to be doing some planning behind the scenes now, and working out how to adapt what I have into drawings.
Please do keep in mind that I have a life outside of fanfiction and art, and i can’t promise a strict update schedule. Remember that I am a person with just two hands and a hobby artist.

Steven:
5. 5:45. He likes to arrive only a few minutes early, but since Granite is usually the one who drives him to things, she likes him to have more leeway time than 5 minutes.
6. He likes it when people celebrate his birthday, although at this rate it’s more like a big gem holiday. He doesn’t quite understand why it means so much to so many, but he enjoys it regardless. He’s more quiet about it, pretty much expecting it every year.
Amethyst
5. 6:05. She tries to run on time, but most of the time something happens or she almost forgets and ends up being a bit late.
6. Amethyst doesn’t celebrate a birthday, but she often likes to recount epic battles that happened on certain days to Steven.
Garnet
5. 6:00. She foresaw enough to make sure she arrived right on time.
6. While Garnet doesn’t celebrate a birthday, she does celebrate Ruby and Sapphire’s anniversaries! She loves getting told ‘happy anniversary’.
Granite
5. 5:00, because she is absolutely helping set everything up. On the rare chance she’s not, she arrives at 5:30-5:45, early enough to have spare time before the event.
6. Granite actually does celebrate a birthday, although it’s not her own. She celebrates Emersld’s birthday, aka the day she first came to Earth. Most often she stays fused. She unfuses for Pearl and Emersld’s anniversary though, and they celebrate together.
(pro tip: name some ocs in the tags when you reblog this so newcomers can ask with ease, and be sure to send an ask to the person you reblog it from!)
Your character is on a plane. Do they want the window, middle, or aisle seat?
“I could really use a [blank] right now.” How would your character fill in the blank?

Your character is supposed to be at an event at 6. What time do they arrive?
How does your character like to be treated on their birthday? Do they voice that expectation?
Your character has to spend a week as the last animal you saw in person (not the exact animal--for example, if you last saw your pet cat, they just turn into a new cat, not Your cat). How are they feeling about their situation?
Give your character a food-related nickname/pet name.
What's something about your character that they find embarrassing? Not just something that happened in the past, but a regular/recurring trait they can't help?
Is your character concerned about covering up blemishes (on their skin or otherwise)?
Would your character rather be up a tree or out at sea? (Anything that rhymes should be treated as a binary)
Somebody asks your character which of two loved ones they would save in a hypothetical situation. How do they go about responding? With logic, or perhaps getting upset at the thought? Refusing to play along at all?
What is your character like when they're anxious?
Would anybody describe your character as dangerous? Would they be right?
Does your character leave a big mess when they cook?
Somebody jumps out and scares your character! What kind of sound does your character make?
Is your character more likely to make up an actual lie or just avoid telling the truth?
Your character just set off the smoke alarm. What were they doing?
Would your character rather have cake or steak? (Anything that rhymes should be treated as a binary)
How does your character refer to themself in their head/while talking to themself? I, me, we, you? Their name? Something else?
Somebody says about your character, "don't they have anything better to do?" What's your character doing that they're referring to?
Your character has just walked through the door of their home after work/school/etc. What's the very first thing they do?
Does your character ever eat non-breakfast food for breakfast?
What's a physical trait your character has that other people might wonder about?
When making a decision with other people (what to do, where to eat, etc), what role does your character play in the conversation? Are they offering suggestions, or maybe insisting that their idea is best? Or are they the "whatever you wanna do" person?
Would you describe your character as more grungy or spongy? (Anything that rhymes should be treated as a binary)
Does your character like hotels?
How old is your character, and how do they feel about their age? Is there a different age they'd rather be?
If your character has keys, what are they like? Do they have a lot of keychains or extra things on the ring? Many keys? Just one?
Visualize your character talking on the phone. What are they doing? Laying on their bed swinging their feet? Pacing? Sitting at a desk? Standing beside a broken-down car?
This story is about Steven learning the truth of the past, ans that there are things the others aren’t telling him…

-Obviously I don’t own Steven Universe, I’m not its creator.
-Some characters’ personalities have been changed from canon for the purpose of this story. They may be entirely different from their canon counterparts, and that’s intentional. Almost every character at this point in the story has gone through additional development as well, so the ones that are similar to canon may be a little different too.
-99.9% of the lore for this series was made before Lars of the Stars was announced, and thus Lars of the Stars will not be Canon in this AU.
I put this disclaimer because I know that once Lars of the Stars comes out it will be dealing with similar worldbuilding that this story does, and I will get questions asking about whatever happens during it. All of the main worldbuilding and timeline things are already done at this point, so I don’t see a need to redo it based on whatever we get as of right now. Eventually I MIGHT make an AU of this AU where Lars of the Stars in canon, but for not it won’t be.

❔Why make this AU?❔
Well, this whole story started as a (currently ongoing) Fanfiction series on AO3. I’ve been working on it for almost two years as of writing this with a lot more to go, and I’d been thinking about adapting it into a comic for a while.
Eventually I decided to do it, but present it differently than the AO3 work itself for the sake of personal variety. (Although that series will contain spoilers for this comic.) Let’s just say… the two don’t take place at the same time or order in the timeline as each other, and don’t even have the same main characters at times.
That is also the reason why I say that the main lore for this series is done, because I’ve been thinking about it for a while now.

🌸AU vs. Canon differences🌸
One of the biggest differences in this AU are the influences of original characters as characters, leading the story to where it is at the beginning.
You may notice throughout the story other little differences between canon and where we are, some that will be explained in the comic, and some that won’t be.

💠A Brief overview of Steven💠
Steven grew up among gems and humans, living with Garnet, Amethyst, Granite, and Greg in the temple’s beach house. Since he was old enough to understand what it meant he knew his mother used to be Pink Diamond, and thus grew up visiting Yellow and Blue at their stronghold when he was old enough.
Little Homeworld was already in existence when he was born, the Diamond Authority disbanded with the war cited as reasoning.
Steven is essentially more well-adjusted to life as a human since he grew up going to school, far more immersed in human culture than before. (For now let's just say the reason there’s no problems with the human government is because of gem influence on earth and fanfic bullshittery.)

Here they are! This is not a complete list of every original character alive or dead in this AU, but these are the ones most relevant to the story. As I reveal more information and eventual full character sheets, they will be linked here! Also here will be the tags if you want to look for bonus art of said character, just know I haven’t drawn all of them fully yet! As I finish the final touches on the story you may see a few more pop up (especially in fusions), so be aware of that as well!
We’re on tapas now!!! Tapas will be fully caught up with this blog by next week as to give me time to work, and then I’ll begin posting new pages there as well as here!

With the coming pages, I’ll be changing the art style!
When I started this comic I was using one I was more unfamiliar with, but I plan on returning to what I know and changing the art style to something more comfortable to work with. Recently I’ve been doing some tests to see if it would be enough detail still if I changed it, and came to the conclusion that it would be. I’m doing this for my own ease in telling the story, and hopefully everything works out.

My mother is also having a nom-serious surgery tomorrow, so I might also have less free time to work on the comic what with helping out while she recovers over the next few weeks.
