twin, i gotta share my truth, i CAN'T imagine Chenle being poor in fics 😭 HE'S LOADED AND THAT'S CONDITIONED IN MY BRAIN
I HEAR YOU.
He’s like the Cha Eunwoo of the fanfic industry where he’s stereotyped into the rich friend/love interest and it just fits him so well 😭 writing Chenle in a scenario where he’s poor or struggling class would be seriously shameful for an author because tell me why that man looks like he’s worth bars of gold and a six thousand hermes bags.

🪽 : this is a work of fiction. None of these events are real and do not portray any individual’s personality or actions.
Chenle as promised had picked you up from your dorm. He’d taken the initiative to be a good boyfriend material friend by holding the passenger door open for you, going as far as to even refer to you as ‘my lady’. His hand snaked itself casually to your hip, guiding you to the stairs that led to his door. With a single click of the knob, he opened his door, withdrawing his hand from you to push open the door and holding it for you, “After you my lady” you grinned at Chenle’s gesture as an airy laugh escaped your lips “And they say chivalry is dead” you joked, gladly entering your friend’s home.
“Have to treat my lady right” he retorted right back at you without even missing a beat, closing the door behind and placing his arm around your shoulders as you walked further inside towards everyone else. As you looked around, you couldn’t help but admire Chenle’s dedication to his parties ; streamers ran across every corner with shimmery tinsels that illuminated the space like a thousand reflections of stars. The ceiling was covered by balloons and disco balls, adding colours to the already dimly bright room of neon hues and glimmering mirrorballs. “You really outdid yourself, it’s beautiful” you marvelled in admiration. Chenle chuckled beside you, pulling the foil curtains apart for you in a sultry daze.
“Jisung and Jeno hyung helped too, wasn’t just me” you looked away, trying to stifle a laugh at his attempts of trying to act humble. It wasn’t working.
It was quite a surprise to see your friends already there, scattering themselves among Chenle’s friends - the dreamies, as they’d like to call themselves. Hyeju and Beomgyu stayed together obviously, with Jeno and Jaemin by their side, their laughs dimmed down by the house music that was being blasted by Renjun who was in control of sound and music for the night. He was accompanied by Haechan who was surprisingly quiet, keeping to himself, much unlike him. You were surprised to see him without Eunji, not that you wanted her here. As you got lost in your thoughts, his eyes met yours for a split second, his doe orbs were filled with emotions you couldn’t understand ; conflict, confusion, mixed like the colours of the lights orbiting around you. You took the pride in breaking eye contact, focusing on Chaeryeong next to Jisung, Hendery and Mark seemed to be bonding well too. It brought a smile of content to your lips, this was perfect the way it was, except maybe for a little parasite hunched on a chair in a white striped jacket.
Chenle led you towards Chaeryeong and Jisung first, you were so lost in thoughts, you’d completely forgotten Chenle’s arm around you, even his presence seemed to have diluted against your thoughts. At the sight of you, a grin made its way to their faces, welcoming you to their tiny circle. You squeezed your way between them, Chaeryeong hands you a red cup with your signature mix while Jisung has his hand on your waist, tucking you in protectively.
Chenle leaves your side and walks towards Mark, throwing his arm around the older boy, loudly announcing, “Now that everyone’s here”, all the attention turned immediately to him, music came to a halt and any other noise had died down, everyone awaited his next words , “Let’s give it up for the man of the hour, Mark Lee” he yelled, which earned screams and yells. Chenle was a natural at hosting, knowing exactly what to say and how to play his cards into entertaining his guests. Cheers erupted as everyone began gathering around them, hogging all over Mark.

“To mark” glasses clinked against each other in a drunken haze that made all the young adults down the shot of whatever alcohol Hendery and Jaemin had concocted together. The alcohol made you smack your lips and sigh in satisfaction, whatever they made you drink, it was enough to course the confidence you needed through your system and make you survive the night ahead.
At 10 pm, the party had just gotten started. Jaemin and Hendery had separated themselves from the group and were scurrying under Chenle’s kitchen counter, mixing together every bottle of vodka they could find into a mixing bowl and chanting words of affection at each other. Both were reduced to total goners under the influence. The others also seemed to have their own kind of fun, Hyeju holding up a bottle took turns making everyone drink a sip and slapping them while Beomgyu cheered her on, Chaeryeong and Jeno were started to get a little too comfortable with each other on the couch, giggling like a mess with their hands all over each other while others danced and sang to some 50 cent song you didn’t recognise.
Mark came over to you after having his cheeks violated by Hyeju. One could almost laugh at his expression, pouty lips coated by the bittersweet streaks of what you assumed as rum ran down to his chin. His messy hair fell down to his droopy eyes that just stood just above his flushed cheeks, painted with tints of pink and red blushes.
“Got tired of playing rough with Hyeju?” You asked with your brows raised in amusement, crossing your legs as he shifted his weight on the seat next to you, arms spread across the sofa back with finger tips ghosting over your skin. He held a boyish smirk plastered on his face, the liquor in his system tugged away any hint of dorkiness he possessed. “Ah your friend group .. they’re a wild bunch”
His words made you chuckle, turning towards him with a new found amusement, you raised your brows, not denying his accusations. “What about you?” He asked, turning his body completely towards you, trapping you between him and the armrest. “Got too tired playing with Chenle?” At the mention of Chenle you almost rolled your eyes, “him?” You scoffed, tilting your head towards the passionate man who was too busy belting to Mariah Carey, “he wouldn’t stop forcing me to sing Jason Deluro, I needed to escape for survival” you dramatically grimaced, earning a heartfelt laugh from Mark who found your barely dry joke way too funny.
Over your little conversation with the man, you’d realise just how good Chenle was at overdramatising things or your natural ability to assume the worst. Mark, unlike what you were thinking, wasn’t leaving the country and flying away never to be seen again. “It’s just a month-long intern program in Canada my dad is forcing me to attend ” he explained, which cleared up all the doubts and questions you had in your mind.
“That makes so much sense. And here I was, wondering why you’d suddenly decide to leave with barely a few months left for graduation” you shook your head in disbelief, your friend’s cryptic messages really did numbers on you.
The rest of the night went by in a haze. You couldn’t remember how many shots you’ve had or who was sandwiching you on the dance floor. One moment you were rolling your hips to the beats of a song you couldn’t remember and the next, you were plopped down onto the clean sheets of Chenle’s bed with your face buried in the fabric of his blanket and your legs dangling over the edge of the bed. Your eyes fluttered closed, making your consciousness shut down with a final stroke.

Haechan noticed, Haechan watched, Haechan held himself back from scoffing with every frame of movement between you and Chenle. Seeing both of you enter together, his friend’s arm hauled to your hips wasn’t exactly a sight that excited Haechan; instead, it left him with a huff of annoyance he didn’t understand why he was feeling. For heaven’s sake, he has a girlfriend. Suddenly thinking of girlfriend, he remembered he did have a girlfriend, one he hadn’t taken the time to reply to her texts since what? Morning? Haechan groaned, Eunji was about to get pissed.
He glanced to his side, watching Jeno all over Chaeryeong and he thinks, that should’ve been him snuggling against his ex- in a split second he stopped himself from thinking, what the hell was wrong with him tonight ? Surely it must’ve been Jaemin’s words from earlier and definitely not his own guilty conscience gnawing him back to his senses. Haechan and guilt couldn’t come close, was the proverb he foolishly believed in to protect his pride.
Not that he cared about you anymore, surely he didn’t. You were just another pretty face to him, another girl who was so sweet to him. One of the many campus girls who treated him with so much kindness and adoration. Just another girl from thousands, with your pretty eyes, pretty lips, pretty hair, pretty body in that pretty outfit of yours- his thoughts came to a halt for the second time that night, downing all of his drink in a gulp.
He decided that his seat was the reason for his thoughts, otherwise why else would he suddenly think of all the positives about you? He snarked cockily, strolling towards the other boys. Surely he shouldn’t even be wasting even a thought on you, there was nothing memorable about you ; it couldn’t have been your voice that would sweetly call out to him, it wouldn’t have been your soft cherry tinted lips that draws him into a sultry daze and it surely couldn’t have been your body that fit perfectly next to him like a jigsaw puzzle, solved and right in place.
No, there was clearly nothing memorable about you. He never even loved you, you were just fun times, a casual fling who became his longest relationship and one that was troubling his thoughts right now.
Haechan was dimly witted when it came to emotions, lacking the intellect to detect his own feelings yet no matter how dumb he was, one thing was clear to him - he did not like how close Chenle was to you, not a single bit. Sure Mark sat extremely close to you, caging you with his body and sure Jisung was no better, placing his hand on your thigh when you sat together , sharing stories and gossip but it didn’t bother him. What bothered him was Chenle’s hands that seemed to be a little too comfortable around your skin, casually putting them over what was his, no, what was once his. His mind went putty with sickening complicated thoughts once he saw Chenle carrying your drunken body to his room, way across the hall away from the crowd.
His heart slowly sinked, this shouldn’t, this couldn’t, there was no way he’d let this happen. Without even thinking twice, he followed your pair. With slow deliberate moves, you hid behind whatever convenience object he found, watching as Chenle carefully placed you to his bed, kneeling down beside your legs, taking off your heels from your feet. He set them aside, taking off his own shoes and placing them next to yours. With the way Haechan’s heart was hammering on his chest, one could almost hear it from miles away. His repulsive thoughts were pulled back to reality when Chenle put on slippers instead, walking out from his bedroom and closing the door to give you the privacy you needed.
Haechan was reduced to mindless thoughts, ruined by his own fear and imagination. He fell to his knees with his arms supporting him from falling face flat to the ground, taking in ragged breaths of terror. What was wrong with him? Why did he just assume his friend was about to sleep with his ex and why did the thought of it scare him so much? Should he be glad Chenle didn’t have any ulterior moves with you or should he be angry at himself for even thinking about it. Without a second thought, he stormed towards the kitchen, opening a bottle of Jameson and drowning himself to the taste of liquor as a substitute to ignoring the brewing feelings inside of him.

🪽 : this was a LONG chapter but atleast the story’s starting to piece together (i hope so). Also finally got around to make an official playlist for this smau!! Yayy I hope you guys enjoyed reading this.
“You’re unbelievable” Jaemin chuckled, scrolling down the chats between Haechan and Chenle. Haechan groaned across from him with his face buried behind his hands, an annoyed huff breaking the scrutinising silence between the pair.
“I don’t understand his problem you know? I can say whatever I want to my ex, why is he acting all protective ? Sending me paragraphs like it’s gon change shit” he scoffed, taking a sip of his iced coffee. “This isn’t even my first time being an asshole to an ex girlfriend and suddenly he’s acting like a moral police.”
Jaemin listened to Haechan rant, finding it pretty amusing to see just at what extent his friend was willing to go down to defend himself. He silently made an analogy in his head- in this word, there were two kinds of people ; first were the ones who accepted their mistakes and secondly, the others who didn’t. Haechan fell into the third kind, ones who accept their mistakes yet still try justifying it to their egos. He shook his head in disbelief, placing down Haechan’s phone to the coffee table. He thought for a moment, wondering what could be the most appropriate thing to say to humble the older boy and not have him storm out of the cafe in annoyance and leaving Jaemin to pay for his 4 iced coffees; an act Jaemin had done one too many times.
“Look, listen” Jaemin finally broke the silence, deepening his voice just for the effects with arms resting on the table to support him from falling down due to his friend’s idiocity.
“Chenle’s crash out is valid. You did not just disrespect his friend infront of him, you chose to be ignorant when he was trying to make you understand. During the texts, he was giving you multiple chances to make you realise your fault and maybe knock some sense into you to make you apologise but you-”
“And if he wants to kiss her ass so bad why is he still part our friend group ? He made this messy, not me. He could’ve chosen to keep quiet and ignore it like Jisung but no, Chenle wants to be the knight in shining armour” the other boy rudely cut him off, clicking his tongue in annoyance, shuffling and huffing like an angry toddler. Jaemin sighed and pursed his lips, calming down his thoughts before finally spewing the words he was holding back from doing.
“Haechan” his sweet voice called out to him in a sing song tone. Without even giving him enough time to respond, Jaemin continued, “have i not told you to stop thinking from your ass? The world does not revolve around you honey cheeks and as much as you want it to , it won’t” be made sure to put an emphasis on the last two words. “Chenle is upset about your outburst and your ignorance not because (yn)’s your ex but because (yn)’s his friend. Her identity doesn’t revolve around being your ex Haechan. They’ve known each other even before you came into the picture, they’re good friends, great even. Chenle isn’t shallow like you, he’s not doing this because she’s your ex, he’s not defending her because he wants to act like he’s morally better. No. He’s doing this because he cares about (yn) as a friend, as a person, as a girl he loves and cherishes. If a girl hurt Jisung, he would’ve reacted the same way. He cares because he’s their friend, not because they’re connected to you.” Jaemin could’ve ended it there, should’ve ended it there but he wasn’t done, he needed to let Haechan understand today.
“If Chenle and Jisung stopped talking to you, you deserve it Haechan. Your actions at the library..” he sighed in disappointment.
“What you did was uncalled for. In your head you might’ve thought that you won against your ex but in reality, you humiliated and lashed out at a girl who didn’t do you any wrong. You and your girlfriend” he pointed sharply, voice paired with an annoyed disgust at the thought of the pair.
“You and your girlfriend were in the wrong and you know it. Your outburst was unnecessary and no one needed your energy but you’ve already made it worse for yourself, even if you kissed the ground she walked on as an apology, it wouldn’t be enough anymore. (Yn) didn’t deserve that, she never deserved to be your ex, so now take a lipstick, put it on your lips with your clown cap and go look at yourself in the mirror and think really hard about what you did, okay ?”
Jaemin’s words left Haechan numb. He wanted to argue back, tell him that he was wrong and that you and Chenle were only acting this way to get his attention but something stopped him. For the first time, Haechan’s consciousness won against his ego that pulled him back. So instead of arguing any further , he just sat down, letting Jaemin’s words sink into his thoughts. After a few seconds of silence, Haechan got up, muttering a weak, “let’s go” before disappearing towards the register to pay for their coffee. Watching the older boy slump around in a daze, Jaemin sighed in relief , knowing Haechan was starting to get to his senses.
