I’ve taken for granted having clean, unlimited water until the last few years. Drought conditions, climate change (yep-I believe the science-it’s real), and the new water guzzling data centers has put a strain on this precious resource. It’s time that our city councils and water authorities address this problem. HOW. There should not be any new development (needing water) approved unless that locality has excess capacity even under extreme drought conditions.

I started watching sports on one of the three free TV stations where all you had to worry about was configuring the antenna. Today there are over 50 niche sports-specific streaming platforms. And most sports fans have been forced to pay for at least a few streaming services to watch our favorite teams or athletes. Just when you think you have subscribed to all the channels to cover your teams, a new service appears for that “can’t miss” playoff game-that will be $12.99/month-thank you!

Growing up and living in the super sports environments of the Northeast and Chapel Hill NC, my wife and I are rabid fans especially UNC baseball, Carolina Hurricanes hockey, Yankees baseball, and NY Knicks basketball. We watch all of our teams playoff games (some at the stadiums) but the 8pm starts plus 3hr+ play time really screws up our normal bedtime routine resulting in some sleep deprivation or missing some amazing OT endings-thankfully highlights are everywhere! GO Heels and Yankees, and congrats to the Canes & Knicks!!!

Netflix has a new documentary on my favorite POTUS, Teddy Roosevelt. He was a Republican who cared and worked for “all” the working people and to protect our environment. He should be the model for anyone who looks back and wants to make America Great again. I highly recommend this documentary to all especially younger people who are jaded by our present day politics.

Roosevelt had many quotable speeches and writings. One of which was about golf: He was aware that Democrats were trying to depict the Republican Party as the party of the rich and he warned his Republican Presidential successor, Taft, against being seen playing golf. “…photographs of me on horseback, yes, tennis, no. And golf is fatal (politically).” Hopefully he is prophetic in photos of POTUS playing golf as political doom.

As a retiree I’ve gravitated to daytime gym sessions and matinee shows and sporting events. It seems like most of the co-attendees are closer to 110 than 20 years old and a little shaky. So I’ve decided to take a CPR/AED class preparing me for any crumping. I am looking forward to learning some basic life saving chest compression skills and AED use, especially the “when to leap into action” since sometimes it’s hard to tell if the old guy/gal is nodding off or having a real episode.

Weatherman predicted 8" of snow (a rarity In Chapel Hill, NC) so I ordered "Amazon's choice" aluminum, heavy duty, ergonomic handled shovel. My anticipation of being a shoveling machine burst when we ended up getting the typical southern version of winter-1" of sleet, freezing rain, and ice. I had flashbacks of the disappointment in my Little League days when I was ready to play a big game (in my mind) with my perfectly broken in glove that would have made me a fielding machine and the game was rained out!
