Do you use ai in your fics? I was worried by the boring corporate sentence structure and random adjectives/similies in lieu of actual story, so I checked with some sites and they said 76% and 89%. If youâre gonna use ai just donât lie about it atleast. If not just ignore this and keep up your writing.
lmao bot
and if you are a real person who actually did this: fuck you anyway for FEEDING MY WORK TO AN AI
Especially Tern, you can go and check their ao3 and see theyâve been writing for years before generative ai was a thing and their writing style is unique and stays the same across the fics over the years, obviously showing itâs not made with ai.
Just accusing someone of using ai when they create free fandom content is really hurtful and sucks! You can make people feel like they don't want to share their work anymore, so please don't just accuse people.
Also those "detect ai" websites feed into other ai's, so you're helping create more stolen content which is harmful! And trying to detect if a work published to AO3 is made with ai is futile, because fics from AO3 have already been scrapped and put into most ai's databases!! So they're going to more likely than not show up as ai cause the ai was trained off the fics!!!!
Sweet knew, from the moment she started primary school, that she wanted to join the Queenâs Intergalactic Peace Corps when she grew up. It all sounded like such a grand adventure, visiting other planets, learning about other peoples and cultures! So she studied hard, working steadily toward her goal.
And then a scouting team discovered a place called Earth- a single, large planet rather than a system of moons like Systar. It was mind-boggling to learn that one single planet could have so many different climates and terrains, that one single species could have so many different cultures and languages. When she finished her studies and her training and it came time for her to choose a planet to do her first-hand cultural studies on, she didnât even have to think about it- Earth was the clear choice for her.
It was⊠a little awkward, at first. Her lessons about Earth and its inhabitants had shown that humans and Aurorans looked very similar, but what her teachers had neglected to inform her was how short humans were. Sweet towered head and shoulders above most of them, and was nearly always bumping her head on door frames and the low-hanging pendant lamps in the cafe.
She learned quick, though, and soon made friends with her new boss and the young man that worked mornings with her. His name was Benny, and he was a student at the university in the nearby city, studying to someday be an astronaut. After the early morning rush, they would often hold lengthy conversations about space, about Aurora, about Earth. And as she had suspected, working at a coffee shop led her to meeting all kinds of interesting people.
There was a pair of young cops that came in around mid-morning most days- partners, and identical twin brothers on top of that. Benny seemed to have quite the crush on one of them, and Sweet soon learned to let him take the brothersâ orders (though she too memorized their favorites pretty quickly- Alastar almost always got a cappuccino and a donut, flavors varying depending on his mood for the day, and Cary always got a black coffee and a breakfast sandwich).
There was the townâs mayor, a man named Business. Not the most personable human sheâd met, the man came across as haughty and controlling the first few times sheâd spoken to him, and heâd eyed her warily in turn. But she had quickly come to learn that under the arrogant surface was someone who was really just lonely and looking for attention wherever he could get it. Most people didnât seem to like him on a personal level, she realized after overhearing so many customers complain about him, but theyâd voted him in as mayor because they couldnât deny he was doing an excellent job of cleaning the town up.
There was a surly old fisherman who would come in every once in a while. His name was Jonas. He was very craggy and gruff at first glance, but was quick to greet Benny with a smile and ask who the new employee was. âHe has one of those old-fashioned wood sailboats, and when they have the pirate festivals during the summer he likes to dress up like one and give people rides on his âpirate shipâ, and tells them all kinds of stories about pirates and the Age of Sail,â Benny had told her. âAnd heâs got all kinds of antique maps and navigational tools, and even a couple authentic cutlasses- and he knows how to use them, too. The kids love it.â
And then there was the most unlikely pair of friends Sweet had ever met, such polar opposites it was a wonder they had ever even met in the first place. They were just a year younger than Benny. Emmet had gone into construction almost immediately out of high school, though he had plans to study architectural engineering when he could afford to. Lucy had managed to get into a trade school, and now built and repaired motorcycles, a job she clearly loved.
Sweet had barely been able to take their orders the first time theyâd met, unable to stop staring at the young woman with the bright pink and blue bangs. Lucy hadnât even seemed to notice. Emmet had, though, and had given Sweet a strange little smile. Benny was grinning at her from ear to ear, as she stared after the pair when they left. â...What?â
âYou like her.â
âI- Benny, I donât even know her.â
âOh, youâll get to,â he assured. âThey come in here pretty regularly.â
âYou seem to know them pretty well.â
Benny shrugged. âIâve worked here several years now, Kittyâs great for working around my crazy school schedule. I think itâs Emmetâs most favorite place in town.â
âHow does a pair like that get to be friends?â
âSchool,â Benny laughed. âI guess they were in the same class in first grade. Youâll see for yourself soon enough, but Emmet both loves to make friends⊠and isnât the greatest at doing so, at the same time. Heâs one of the sweetest guys youâll ever meet, but also kind of awkward at the same time? Like he tries so hard he winds up driving people away instead, most of the time. But somehow he and Lucy managed to hit it off anyway and have been practically joined at the hip since.â
âOh⊠Are they together?â
Benny smirked. âNah. I think Emmet does like her that way, but⊠sheâs not really into him the same way, so he hasnât said anything to her about it.â
âSo thatâs what that look was aboutâŠâ
âLook?â
Sweet blushed. âHe caught me staring.â
Benny threw his head back and cackled.
~* *~
Just as Benny said, the two friends stopped by fairly frequently in the mornings to have a quiet breakfast together before they split up to head to their respective jobs. Sweet couldnât help but listen in on their conversations. Emmet was⊠Well, Emmet was nothing to write home about. The young man was mundane, almost severely so, talking about how work went the day before, what his crew were building, some silly television show heâd watched the previous night. All kinds of boring stuff. Lucy, on the other hand, almost always had some wild story to share. Sweet never would have guessed there could be such excitement in such a sleepy little town.
One morning, Emmet came in by himself. âNo Lucy today?â Sweet asked, trying not to sound as disappointed as she felt at the thought of not seeing the fascinating young woman that day.
âOh, no, sheâs coming, sheâs just running late,â Emmet assured. âSo if you donât mind, the usual for both of us?â
âAbsolutely,â Sweet said, ringing him up.
âSheâs amazing, isnât she?â
Sweet blinked, glancing back up at him. âWhat?â
Emmet gave her a knowing smile. âYou like her.â Sweetâs cheeks turned a deep pink color. âI donât blame you. Sheâs such an awesome person, who wouldnât like her?â
âMe,â Benny chimed in, grinning when Emmet laughed and Sweet swatted playfully at him.
âAnyway, you should try to talk to her,â Emmet continued once he got his giggles under control. âI think she likes you too. She talks about you a lot.â
Sweet was certain her face was about to catch fire, it felt so hot. âShe does?â
âMhmm.â The door jingled at that moment. Emmet smiled brightly. âThere you are! I paid for breakfast already.â
âEmmet, you didnât have to do that-â
âYouâre already running late, I figured Iâd save you some time.â
Sweet worried her lip between her teeth, watching as the two friends made their way toward their usual table and sat down. âWhatcha thinkinâ?â Benny nudged her. Sweet hesitated. âThey wonât hear us, theyâre in their own little world over there.â
âHow Iâm going to talk to her,â Sweet murmured. âAnd whether sheâd actually go out with me. And whatâs going to happen after Iâm done with my three annuals here.â
âYears,â Benny gently corrected.
âAnd once Iâm in the Corps⊠I donât know where Iâll be assigned, I might not ever come back here. What if- what if it does work, and it gets serious, and then I never see her again?â
âGeez, Sweet, breathe,â Benny told her with some alarm. âHey. If itâs meant to be, itâll work out, you know? And you never know, you could get assigned here!â
âBut-â
âYeah weâve already got something of an alliance going, but weâre still super new to each other and humans have a whole history of fucking up a perfectly good thing.â
âBenny,â Sweet huffed with a laugh. âWeâre still on the clock, you dope. Watch your mouth.â His only answer was an unrepentant grin. âBut alright, youâve got a point. Iâll talk to her. But.â She smirked back at him. âYou have to talk to Cary, too. No more of this silly dancing around each other, Kitty says you two have been at it for years.â
Benny whined. âOhh, fineâŠâ Sweet nodded in satisfaction and drew in a deep breath to calm herself. It wasnât much longer before the pair started to make their way out. Benny gave her a nudge when she couldnât find her voice, jolting her into action.
âHey Lucy?â she called before she could catch herself, and willed her fluttering heart to calm back down when Lucy looked at her.
âYeah?â
âCould IâŠâ Behind Lucy, Emmet gave Sweet a âgo on!â gesture. âCould I ask you out for dinner? Tonight?â
Lucyâs jaw dropped slightly in surprise, cheeks tinting. âAhh, well⊠I kind of already promised Vitruvius Iâd visit tonight,â she hedged.
âOhâŠâ
âBut Iâm free tomorrow?â
Sweet perked back up. âGreat! Tomorrow then!â
Lucy smiled at her. âTomorrow.â
âYes!â Benny cheered once Emmet and Lucy were outside. âWay to go Sweet!â
Sweet grinned, and then whined and hid her face in her hands. âOh my gosh Benny I donât know what to do Iâve never been on a date before!â
âReally? Sweet, gorgeous young lady like you?â
âBennyyyyyyâŠâ
He laughed. âYou eat food and you talk. Thatâs basically it.â
â...Really?â
âSure! You can ask her how her jobâs going, what her hobbies are, you can tell her about what brought you here, the sort of stuff you like to study, things like that! First dates are for getting to know each other!â
âThat doesnât sound so badâŠâ
Benny smiled at her. âYouâre gonna rock this, Sweet. I believe in you.â
