 She turned toward the parking garage. She only took a few steps when she heard him call after her. “Hela?” 

She glanced  over her shoulder. “Yeah?” 

“You hungry?” 

A grin spread across her face. “That depends.” 

Nico raised an eyebrow. “Depends on what?” 

“Whether you’re buying or not.” 

He laughed. “Sunny’s?” 

Lahela felt her smile grow.  She nodded. “It’s a date.”

the scene in Garrett's room where they're hooking up for the first time is hot for many reasons, but his face when he's holding her from behind and he's just so content and into it. . . I was holding my breath right along with Wellsy.

“I don’t know how to do this,” Lahela admitted quietly. “Part of me wants to be angry at you forever and the other part. . .” she laughed weakly. “The other part still wants to text you every time something stupid happens at work.” 

NIco looked down, a tiny sad smile fixed across his face. “For the record, I still have like twelve unread drafts of texts I never sent you.” 

That pulled a real laugh out of her. Her laughter faded into a soft silence, neither of them knowing exactly what to say. 

Slowly, Nico turned his hand over against the concrete between them, palm up. It was an offering, not an expectation. “We don’t have to figure everything out tonight,” he said quietly.

things I won’t let ai take away from human writers

em dash

“not x, not y, but z”

short sentence stacking as a stylistic choice

none of these belong to ai. these are all what human writers have been writing since day one, way before ai was invented. ai was trained to mimic how human writers write — so em dash, not x not y but z and short sentence stacking would never have been used by ai at all if ai hadn’t learned and mimicked them from human writers.

no, you are not “fighting against ai” by accusing every work that has em dash, not x not y but z or short sentence stacking in it as ai-generated, you are helping ai harm the writing community by engaging in witch hunt and scaring human writers away from creating/sharing their works for fear of being wrongly accused of using ai.

speculations, accusations and ai witch hunt harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.

Lahela shook her head immediately. “I should’ve caught it sooner, I should have. . .” 

“No.” Nico’s voice was gentle but firm. “You did everything right.” 

Before she could argue again, Nico’s arm wrapped carefully around her shoulders, pulling her against him. 

The second she felt him against her, she broke.

“I have to get back to work.” she said cooly, forcing herself to hold his gaze.

“Five minutes. Please.” he begged.

Lahela hesitated. 

He swallowed hard.  “Hela, just give me five minutes. please? If you still hate me after those five minutes, I'll leave you alone forever.”

“Nico I don’t think. . . “

“Hela please.” he said, his voice more fragile than she’d ever heard it. “I will get on my hands and knees and beg you right now if that’s what you want. I owe you the truth.” 

“That would have been nice three weeks ago.”

Nico swallowed hard, eyes fixed on the floor. “Because she deserves more than I can give her.” 

Mari frowned. “Who told you that?” 

“Nobody had to.” 

“Nico bear. . . “

“She wants a family!” the words ripped out of him so suddenly they startled even him. “I can’t give her that!”  New chapter is up! Read on A03.

As she stepped into the hallway, she reached for her phone without thinking. Her fingers were already typing out the message when reality slammed into her chest. Her breath caught painfully in her throat. Her eyes dropped to the unfinished text. 

Hey, Malcolm was readmitted. . . 

She had been texting Nico. She stared at the words for a long second before locking her phone again. Her chest ached so suddenly she thought it might physically crush her. For one stupid, automatic moment, she’d forgotten. Forgotten that Nico wasn’t hers anymore. Chapter 14 is now up! Read it on A03!

“Nico, it just feels like. . . like you’re pulling back. That you’re distancing yourself from me. And it scares me, Nico. It scares me so much.” She shook her head, her voice breaking. “You’re acting like it’s temporary.” 

He took in her red rimmed eyes, the tears streaming down her face. He had hurt her. Everything he’d been trying to avoid by taking a step back. He swallowed hard. He knew what he had to do.
