Karamatsu’s head is a rock. He missed the pun. Was that a pun he was supposed to get? Karamatsu definitely wouldn’t have known, either way.

“ I am fully aware of when to accept help, but in this situation, I feel it is not necessary. I am a grown man. ” L, you haven’t;; even showered today;;;;

“ And destiny is not a person. I don’t at all see how it could tell you anything, especially since the supernatural does not exist. ” Except shinigami.

Light was still struggling to get used to living with the detective. It had been months since they had finally found Kira, months since he had strangled the life out of them. He could still feel Misa’s neck in his hands, the very memory bringing the taste of bile to his mouth.

He and L rarely interacted. He understood, not wanting to push the other. They had both lost a great deal to this case, mostly themselves. He still didn’t understand why the other wanted him to move away with him, but he didn’t mind. L was brilliant, and spending time around him would be a great learning opportunity. At least, that was his excuse.

In truth, Light couldn’t go back home the day they finished the case. He wouldn’t be able to look his mother and sister in the eye, knowing that he was partially to blame for his father’s death. He hadn’t seen them in what felt like ages, but he just couldn’t. He didn’t even bother to speak in person when he told his mother he was moving. The phone call had nearly killed him.

Eventually, however, the lack of human contact began to..affect him. Even when they shared meals on a rare occasion, they didn’t speak. Finally, he went to L’s door, hesitating a moment before knocking on it.

“Ryu-….” He cut himself off, flinching at the mistake. That wasn’t his name. He shouldn’t have said it. “…L, I was wondering if- uhm…if you’d want to join me for lunch?” He paused, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “I’m fixing sub sandwiches.”

The knock on the door was a shock to the detective, causing him to flinch and begin digging his fingernails into his skin. Even so, he didn’t make a sound.

It was just Light, as he had to remind himself. But... even hearing Ryu, a reminder of the case, made the orphan begin to feel on-edge again, something he didn’t at all need. As it was, he was stressing himself over the littlest things, and playing various games on his laptop didn’t seem to help all that much.

“ I... I don’t particularly want to move. I’m comfortable. ” In actuality, L was afraid to go out. Light’s face... It, too, reminded him of the case. How he’d accused Light over and over... But he wasn’t human, right? Just a monster behind a screen?

Why was this guy taking so long to talk? Was he trying to be dramatic? What was with the flowery language? Did he think he was in an anime? Not even the world’s greatest detective knew for sure-

“ What sources? And no thank you, I’m already great enough on my own. ” Oh? Was he smiling a little? Yes, because he loves his puns-
