🐈😛 affectionate messy drunk
This might not have been Graham’s finest form of an apology, but sparing a few beers was probably more than most would get. So, Jamie can’t find it in himself to complain. Not when Graham is pleasantly drunk and, for the first time in a long while, seems content to be in Jamie’s presence for more than a handful of minutes. Not when Graham’s weight against his side is so welcome, too familiar and comfortable for Jamie to refuse. Not when it feels like old times. “You’re too much, you know that?” Jamie shifts a little, leaning back onto his hands to glance down towards where Graham is comfortably curled against his side, smugness written across every inch of his features. And of course Graham has enough cheek and enough beer to stick his tongue out at Jamie in response, laughter slipping out in peals. The action itself is so befitting of Graham and so stupidly endearing, and maybe it’s his buzz, but Jamie finds himself laughing too. As if it was that easy–and maybe it was. Easy for them to repair things, easy for them to become comfortable with one another again, easy for Graham to find his way back into the previous soft spot that Jamie once had for him. That had been left warm for him. It was easy; this was easy. “Idiot,” Jamie breathes out with the last hint of a laugh, watching as Graham pushes himself off the edge of the train car, turning and beckoning Jamie to follow.
So he does.
Do you suck toes?

jamie’s words reach him and he finds himself GRINNING, not that he expects the other boy to know why. he doesn’t know why, jason remembers, and that’s the best part. ’ yeah… yeah, i think i can handle a lot more than you know. ’ he answers, short and vague, and he finishes closing up his backpack, pulling it off of the table in front of him to throw it over his shoulder instead. he looks at jamie for only a brief moment as he passes him, finds satisfaction knowing that this guy doesn’t know kaz, doesn’t know THE TRUTH about her like he does. jason briefly wonders if he’s even seen her in the same way he has, when she’s bare and exposed. he stops to pull dark hood up over his head, covering messy hair. ’ you coming? ’
Jason is new territory, a million things that Jamie can’t parse. Off-kilter, too much nervous energy (and held with such a loose grip), and sharp around the oddest edges. He grins and Jamie finds himself staring for a second too long, trying to figure out what joke he hasn’t caught onto yet. “Oh, yeah? That’s good to hear, I guess.” It’s not. It makes Jamie nervous, makes his muscles tense and draws his gaze to Jason’s back, where it finds purchase. He tries to reason that it probably means nothing. That Jason is Kaz’s friend and that he should trust him. But as much as he reasons, the creeping sense of dread never quits sneaking up on him.
Broken from his thoughts, Jamie glances up to find Jason already exiting the train car, head tilted back in Jamie’s direction. “Yeah, sorry.” After shoving the rest of his belongings into the nearby backpack and lowering himself from the train car, Jamie catches up to Jason, eyes studying what little he can make out of Jason’s expression in the dark. “So, you and Kaz have gotten pretty close. This thing really brought you two together, huh?”
@shapeslept
“ everything’s changing. “ a sidelong glance is passed his way, eyebrows knitted as she looks to be uncertain, careful with her words. she busies herself with crouching next to the non-lucid lucid, yanking the dart out of its neck like it were any animal, not someone’s parent. not someone with a family. “ since this all started. i just … “ got myself into a lot of trouble. there’s no way to confide in a friend that she’s meant to stab them all in the back. even if she wanted an out ( part of her isn’t sure she does ), what the hell kind of NEW GOD would let her off its leash? the red doors remind them that there’s eyes everywhere, and that they are always watching. “ want to know we’re still on the same side. that all this bullshit won’t get in the way of us being friends. “
“Yeah, but we’re used to that, right?” Something small shared between the two of them, left-over resentment from things altering around them far too quickly. Things were always changing; that didn’t mean that things changed between the two of them. It never had. “You just...?” Jamie prods, light and gentle, watching Kaz busy herself with anything but him. With the lucid on the ground, with the tranquilizer dart stuck in its neck, with anything that requires what she’s familiar with--detachment from her surroundings. He’s noticed it for a while, the way Kaz becomes distracted or the way her gaze flits anywhere but towards his. How clinical she is when handling missions. Jamie chalks it up to nerves, especially now. “Hey, hey... where’s this coming from?” He closes the gap between them, eyebrows pinched with concern as he moves to tuck a stray strand of hair behind Kaz’s ear. “Of course we’re on the same side. We always will be.” Then, with a loose grin, “What’s going to come between us? Sleepers?”
stay away from squirrels, jamie. it's for your benefit.
