Blade: Hand forged, hammer textured, deferentially heat treated W2 carbon steel
Handle: Ancient walrus ivory set on a distal tapered full tang
The W2 carbon steel blade was deferentially heat treated using the traditional Japanese clay technique. This method results in a gently undulating transition line called a hamon.
The spine and handle have both been hammer textured for a very dramatic appearance. The blade has a strong distal taper so as the bring the weight back into the handle. Ancient walrus ivory scales are set on the distal tapered tang. The ivory, which is 6,000 - 9,000 years old, combines cream and light chocolate tones.
