Once there was a lonely wolf (thanks to Shakespeare). she roamed along the shore of some forgotten island until one day when she came across a siren at the water's edge. She'd been howling at the moon and the siren just wanted her to shut up. So, the siren told the wolf she could become a whale if she stepped into the water, if she gave up her howling, her fur, her teeth her claws. Told her that the moon was actually in the water and she wanted to be with it so badly all she had to do was dive in. The wolf so desperate in her love gave up her body and claws teeth and fur, gave up her lonely howl and in that moment the whole world turned upside down. Now you can find the lonely wolf in the sky at night turned into a whale with golden wings, she sings to the moon as she chases Aires and Orion, no longer lonely. #shortstory #art #writing #analogcollage #humpbackwhale #butterfly #wings #nightsky #space

I would often find white butterflies in times of great confusion; I would follow them as they flitted and eventually whatever perplexed me fell away. Lately, I've been in a place of deep self-involvement and tangled up in a dangerous kind of love. I am the quiet. I am the mean streak they could not iron out of me. Some girls are strong willed. Some girls are freaks. My mother has called me both of those things. I am the sound of what is left empty. Do not tell me I have made myself up. I don’t believe in bad luck anymore, don’t believe I’m a hole built just to be fucked anymore. I have learned the difference between whores, and those who use “whore” to mean someone dirty.   I am not dirty. I do not wish to do a man’s laundry. I do not wish for money. When I meet my eternity, I will know it. I do not wish to glow, to grow up to be beautiful. Here I eat, lick my fingers, drink whole cream, I color myself lovely, paint with color from floor to the ceiling. Here I have learned about healing. Some girls are angry, even in pink. Some girls do not think these things through. I am not nervous, not dressed wrong. I am not ever overreacting. When you see me, you will know what you’re seeing. I am my hair, my own body thinning. I am the hurricane, you are the city. I will rub my eyes without fear, see things clearly again. I am the hand that turns the page, all the rage of a thousand years boiled over. I am in the shape of my pain. Chemistry does not work this way: they pry open my chest with screwdrivers, and find the mess inside much too terrible to deal with. I am scared, but no longer embarrassed.

Histogenesis

the blackthorn tree seems so far down here on this loamy earth perhaps to a caterpillar

but climb the tree, it does

each thorn digs deep a remembrance of past digressions made to bleed a new kind of transformation

evolution is necessary for survival

only to be found tiny chrysalis writhing on pine needled ground lost from its thorned home

evolution does not allow a caterpillar who has fallen mush in a brown spotted chrysalis to reattach itself and survive

oh, but how the attempt was not for naught a beautiful sight it was to be found trying as I might to become something other than what I’d known

instead I died a thousand deaths and came back a chrysalis lost on pine needle ground

remembering each thorn that dug remembering I bled out past disgressions gave my body to histolysis in hopes for wings and faith
