Obviously I still don’t know Beatrix well enough to decide for sure, but a Kai/Trixie pairing in December (if she sticks to her schedule) looks promising! These would be ½ English shepherd, ¼ Siberian husky, and ¼ Shetland sheepdog. https://embarkvet.com/dog/kai28
She needs her hip x-rays and CAER eye exam done, but she’s MDR1 n/n by parentage and Kai is clear/noncarrier for all the herding breed issues she may carry, so I’m not too fussed about her genetic testing.
From what I’ve seen and have been told about her temperament so far, I’m excited! Her steady, un-fussed personality has really impressed me. I think she could bring in all purpose farm instincts and workability, herding breed will to please, without compromising that solid, steady, calm, and devoted companion personality I love so much about Kai.
I’m going back and forth on their structure; she could benefit from a stud with more rear angles than Kai has, but his topline is level, which is her other main fault. I love both of their fronts, feet and pasterns, neck, heads. His coat bring in the weatherproof quality I need in an outdoor working dog. Hers is too fine and plush, not weatherproof, prone to matting behind her ears.
I’m not that optimistic about finding a semi-local purebred stud of the herding spitz types I’m interested in, with the personality I want, owned by someone who’d be open to crossbreeding. There are two I’ve been given permission for, Lapponian herder and Nenets herding laika, but they’re both across the country. AI is such an ordeal, especially for a lower conception rate. And their structure isn’t any more complementary than Kai’s is.
Anyways, these are the colors that could result! Coats would be ½ short, thick double coat, and ½ genetically long coat. That could turn out looking like Bea’s shortish, feathered, plush coat, or Kai’s floofy sheltie dad’s.
Both of them are minimally white marked so even the irish marked on this chart would probably just be a white chest, some on the legs, and maybe face.
Here’s one of her ee red puppies (gold/cream/white on this chart) from a past litter
We’ll be living in northern Georgia when the litter is born. I’ve sent puppies to homes across the country and am fine with it, but would love if owners could visit, see the farm, and meet the parents and puppies first.
If this is a pairing you might be interested in feel free to send a pm with any questions! There should be both light farm work potential or lower key sport prospects, and puppies that would be better suited as companions.
I’ll be looking for one or two co-own homes for breeding prospects. If I’m going to move this crossbreeding project forward I need some help! I don’t plan to be an over-involved co-owner (unless you want lots of support like Chai’s owner does). This would be your dog, you’d make all the choices, you’d just have me paying for health testing and wanting one or two litters if the pup matured as expected.

“Here’s how it worked: Fairy tales are transmitted through language, and the shoots and branches of the Indo-European language tree are well-defined, so the scientists could trace a tale’s history back up the tree—and thus back in time. If both Slavic languages and Celtic languages had a version of Jack and the Beanstalk (and the analysis revealed they might), for example, chances are the story can be traced back to the “last common ancestor.” That would be the Proto-Western-Indo-Europeans from whom both lineages split at least 6800 years ago. The approach mirrors how an evolutionary biologist might conclude that two species came from a common ancestor if their genes both contain the same mutation not found in other modern animals.”
Tehrani’s work is absolute genius. If you like this, look up his other work. He’s been at this for a while.
