More alleged spoilers for the plot of the Voltron movie under the break. But the big thing everyone seems to be confirming is this is a next generation story with none of the original characters, and is for all intents and purposes a loose remake.

-The film is a sequel to the Voltron series full of easter eggs and lore.

-It’s about a new group of young pilots being recruited to stop a resurrected Emperor Zarkon. (Daniel Quinn-Toye, Alba Baptista,John Kim,Samson Kayo,Tharanya Tharan)

-Sterling K Brown will play the main villain Emperor Zarkon (He will be in full on make up)

-Rita Ora will also be a Villain Haggar, the Galra witch

-Henry Cavill plays the son of Princess Allura and is the Mentor of the Voltron Team

-Daniel Quinn-Toye plays the lead, A young man named Mack (it’ll be a twist that he’s the son of one of the OG pilots). Gets a calling from the lions and will eventually lead the team of young pilots.

-There’s been a few test screenings so far and everyone loved it. Said the action is done really well. (Said Top Gun maverick style camera work as well)

MGM is currently figuring out if they want a theatrical release or not.

If true, this does confirm that everyone involved hated VLD, particularly as Voltron is an updated but mostly faithful version of the 80s design, and Henry Cavill being the son of white, blonde Allura. Also Maverick style camera work for super robot pilots.

VoltCon!

The annual VoltCon convention returns for another year following New York Comic Con, and one particular panel looks interesting.

Last year, the panel concerning the live-action movie coincided with a message from director Rawson Marshall-Thurber declaring that they had a set filming schedule and showing off the sets in production.

This year, with the film in post-production and rumors of test screenings having occurred, I think we might be finally getting to see a trailer. A plot synopsis. The things that tell us what the movie will actually be about. And that’s when the real fun will begin, particularly with the fact that the heroes will be an entirely new cast. (And the rumor that Cavill’s character is the son of Keith and Allura).

Someone claims to have seen a rough cut of the Voltron movie and has reported back on it. What is described is a hammy, but fun movie that takes a lot of cues from Top Gun Maverick, and pretends Legendary Defender doesn’t exist.

Sterling K. Brown plays the main villain with Rita Ora as the dragon, while the heroes are all new. Also Henry Cavill has a sword fight. Overall, while Voltron likely won’t be winning any awards, the vibes are positive! Lots of giant robot action, and lots of villains having fun. No Keith and no Lance although Cavill’s character may in fact be the son of Keith and Allura.

The state of Voltron in 2025 is an Instagram account run by an intern who keeps posting headcanons and shipping bait for a show that people can no longer legally watch, while big name actors and actresses keep silent about a movie with at least a $150 million price tag, since odds are during the promotional tour the producer who allegedly hates the show the Instagram keeps making headcanons for will tell the former Superman actor to burn fan art of the ship the Instagram teases.
