one of my favorite things about karedevil in the comics is when vanessa gives lily a potion that makes every man who smells her think of his fondest desire and matt smells it and thinks of karen 😭 and later when he talks to foggy about it he admits that “with everything going on in his life he hadn't even realized how much he missed her” and that she was his “subconscious wish” even tho he was with milla at the time.

and i think the closest the show ever got to that was in ddba1 when matt wakes up in the hospital and the first thing he asks for is karen. like he's barely conscious. he doesn't even have time to process what's happening and she's the person his mind reaches even tho he was with heather atp

with everything going on he doesn't even realize how much he needs karen…

the thing i love most about karedevil is that they're literally two sides of the same coin and i feel like people never talk about it???

like both of them had to grow up WAY too fast. matt was literally a blind kid stitching jack up after fights. karen was basically trying to keep her family together after her mom passed , helping with the diner, carrying way more than she ever should've. neither of them really got to just... be kids.

and then the guilt. because that's literally what defines both of them.

jack dies trying to make matt proud. kevin dies protecting karen. both of them have this one moment where their entire lives split into a before and after and they've been carrying that ever since.

and can we PLEASE stop acting like fisk is only matt's villain because i'm sorry?? he is just as much karen's.

union allied. ben urich. mrs. cardenas. wesley. throwing her in prison and trying to have her killed in there. the nightmares she was still having YEARS later. she wanted him gone just as much as matt did. s3 makes that so painfully obvious.

and now BAs2 has me looking at them like... okay fisk's gone. now what 😭 because they have spent YEARS making him the center of their lives. they don't know how to stop fighting.

idk they're just so... together. like narratively. they're always carrying the same thing just in different ways.

i genuinely don't consider rhaenyra getting her period in that episode to be misogynist or that it shows her to become a hysterical woman because of it. i think it's just an acknowledgement of yet another situation rhaenyra finds herself in where she's trying to hold a traditionally masculine position and feels betrayed by the physical reminder that she wasn't born a man, similarly to the scene in season 1 where she goes into premature labor while all the men in her council are discussing plans for war without her. the reality of being someone who menstruates is that it can happen at inconvenient times when you're trying to do something important!

period cramps gender dysphoria on the iron throne was so on the nose but it was good so i dont even care. what if your body physically recoiled at the seat you've placed it upon. what if the literal site where your body touches the throne is soaked in blood. what if you wanted to bring the symbolic phallic sword. what if you didnt because its not who you are. what if you started bleeding the moment you put it aside. how romantic it must be to be locked away in a castle and made to squeeze out heirs. how romantic it must be to be locked away in a castle and finally sit on the iron throne! what if it was uncomfortable. what if you werent made for this because no one is made for this. what if your womb was a grave. what if it was reminding you right now. what if the thing that you have resented as your defining feature your entire life decided to torture you during the moment you've waited your entire life for. your father bled on this throne too when he pricked his fingers on its sharp edges. is that blood any different? your two eldest sons are dead would you like a bodily reminder that you can have more targaryen heirs? isn't that what its all about? more targaryen heirs? more and more and more targaryen heirs? dont you want to give birth again dont you want to live in this castle and squeeze out more targaryen heirs? dont you wish you were your father your uncle your half-brother dont you wish you were literally anyone else. do you think you would have started bleeding if you just brought the sword. do you think you would have started bleeding if you were just someone else. dont forget your father bled too
