To people who excuse Taigen's severe bullying towards Mizu as a trauma response coming from a poor abusive household and something he did as a child...

1) Do you forget that Mizu was also a deeply traumatised child. An orphaned beggar until she found Swordfather? Or Ringo. Poor and abused by his father just like Taigen. They didn't become bullies. Makes me think being poor and abused has nothing to do with being horrible to innocent people but maybe that's just me.

b) Taigen wasn't a bullying "child". He's a bully. He bullies Mizu in the present setting. For someone fixated on a show of honor, he uses dirty tricks to fight her after she's already proved herself to be a better fighter. Abusing her with slurs, reminding her of her traumatic past and ultimately punching her fresh stitches.

c) Have you considered that maybe he's just written to be a... terrible person. He cheats on his fiancée, uses her for money and status, abandons her over his ego and even when he's united with her, refuses to afford her choice in his decisions to the point where Akemi has to overtly state what she wants.

You do you, I'm just trying to make sense of this devoted push to redeem terrible men.
