Giddily, the feeble spawn bounced in his spot; arms crossed as he relentlessly imposed himself on the other. “Come on, come on, sleep over! It’s awfully echoey without Beauty around! And plus, you look like you need one. I’ve already made us flower crowns, Look!” He held up a hand, waving it with much enthusiasm, bringing attentiont to the Little Mermaid bandaids covering almost every willowy digit. “I refust to take no for an answer!”
“Car-- Car, a little less . . loud,” he requested softly, rubbing his temples. “I dunno, okay? You might have to; I don’t know if I’m up for that. Not . . Not tonight, not in a place I don’t know. Lemme think about it . . ” The spawn averted his gaze to the ground, crossing his arms tightly over his chest.
“Sorry.”
“No I didn’t listen to the message.” He said incredulously. “Does it look like I’m your secretary? I don’t take messages.” Which was how he ended up here obviously. He knew he wasn’t the most patient person and didn’t think much about it. “Sounds like it.” He said, eyeing the other spawn curiously for a second. “Sure.” Koda easily agreed, even though he had been doing coke and probably wouldn’t leave the spawn alone until he felt like it. “If you really wanted to shoot me I would’ve been shot and you would’ve been dead, now c’mon.” He waved Adrien towards the door.
“It’s not--” Adrien cut himself off with a sound of extreme annoyance, grimacing.
“Only reason you’re not dead is ‘cause I haven’t killed a spawn before. Don’t want a dead body in my living room. Yeah, you want me to go? You gotta go first, Koda; that’s how this shit works. Go on; gotta be sure you’re not gonna . . push me down the steps or something. Haven’t died yet, not planning to die today. Go.”
“If you would’ve just answered your phone…” He suggested, watching with amusement as the other spawn moved a cabinet in front of the window. Koda looked down at Adriens feet, frowning as he realized his shoes were on. “I’m high.” He muttered before his gaze lifted. “Alright, alright. Friends also accompany friends to go get Chinese food.” Koda waited, not moving towards the door.
“Didn’t you hear the message? Disconnected the line; working my way off the grid. It’s a great life,” he muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets. “If I come with you to take care of-- whatsit, the munchies?, do you promise to leave me alone after? ‘Cause, well, Fate knows I still want to shoot you for coming in like that.”
“Because you ‘just being mad’ doesn’t sound like the Adri I know and love,” she said.
“I’m used to your being quick-witted and spacey, but never just angry for no reason.”
“Maybe I’m not the same person.”
“Well, fuck, it’s who I am today.”
“I mean, it’s not technically breaking in if I didn’t…break in, I got in through the fire escape.” He smiled, not caring if it was a flimsy excuse. Adrien was still looking like he was about to shoot him even though the gun wasn’t actually in his hands anymore. “No…it does not.” He answered belatedly, looking around the place in obvious distaste. “Alright, put your shoes on.” He looked back at Adrien, waiting patiently.
The spawn rolled his eyes, going over to the window and locking it before shifting a cabinet in front of it. “There, no more breaking in-- oh, I’m sorry, getting in, through the window. Shoes are on, see?” He gestured vaguely towards his shod feet, then pointed to the door. “C’mon, leave. ‘Friends’ leave when their ‘friends’ tell them to.”
Kodas eyebrows shot up in amusement as he took in the pistol. “Right. Look, I didn’t even mean to rile you up this time. Would you calm down.” He said, stepping forward and pushing the barrel of the gun away lightly. “We’re buddies now remember? I’m not here to fuck shit up, unless you point that thing at me again.” He smiled, turning away from the spawn to take in the house. “I’m not trying to die again, it’s too much work to get shit in order. It’s been hectic, forgot to say I got your gift. You’re kind of funny.” He said conversationally, a compliment coming from him. “I don’t do Christmas which is why you didn’t get a shit-themed present in return. Did you say the gun was illegal? You know I could whip up a permit for you. Not sure how smart you owning a gun is…but y’know what, it’ll be my belated gift to you, Adi.” He said, finally turning back towards him with a little smirk. “Merry Christmas. You got any food?”
“Don’t--” Adrien grimaced, pointing the pistol back towards the other spawn. “Buddies or not, whatever. I don’t do break-ins.” After a moment, he grimaced, putting the safety back on and storing the gun back in its usual place. “It’s fine, and legal. What’s illegal is killing someone, ‘specially in my own home.” At the inquiry, he furrowed his brows, waving a hand around his run-down apartment. “Does it look like I’ve got food? There’s a small Chinese place down the street; that’s your best bet. Mind getting out now?”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re right.” He grumbled a little under his breath in regards to the dishonest scum that was Dakoda, but was distracted from this by Adrien’s needs. “Well, sitting in an uncomfortable coffee shop booth is hardly the most conducive place for rest. Wanna take a hike? Get somewhere comfy?”
“Well-- I mean, it’s not something that works well,” he mumbled. “Can’t sleep. Maybe . . Maybe another night. I dunno.” Adrien sighed, glancing around the shop. “We could go, though. Anywhere else is . . probably better.”
“I can handle it. I’ll take smaller bites and breathe more air. Oh! And milk! Milk is good!” He resounded as he happily nodded his head. Fishing though his overcoat’s jacket, he pulled out his wallet and retrieved the needed cash. “You shouldn’t defy fate, you know? I try my best not to.” Carwyn was never one to go against the age-old entities, especially not Time and Fate.
“Milk-- yeah, okay. Don’t think they’ve got that here, though, and definitely not where we’re going, so we’re gonna have to stop on the way . . ” Adrien pulled out a few crumpled bills, heading up to order his own meal before waving his friend up to the counter.

“Oh! Oh! We shall leave it to Fate,” Carwyn jumped in his space; quick to snap out of his elephant rave. Closing his eyes, he tried his best not to sneak a peak as he circled his index finger around the menu before landing it on his destined dish. Snapping his eyes open, his excited grin looked more forced than anything, “I shall have this.” Pointing at the Pad Kee Mao, or better named, Drunken noodles. No wonder he dreaded it, especially with the chilli marked to its side. “This is going to be an interesting adventure.”
“You sure, Car? That’s gonna be . . you know, spicy as all hell . . ” He’d just heard his friend say he wasn’t good with spicy food; why would he go with that? He could choose something else, after all. “Maybe you should get the Pad Woon Sen instead . . ?” Just because Carwyn had left it to fate didn’t mean that that was a good idea.

“You really have to learn, Scott. You really have to learn not to trust a fox. No, ‘cause they’re tricksters. They’ll fool you. They’ll fool everyone.”
“What happened?” She asked with a sigh.
“Phoenix give you more bad advice?”
“Why’s something got to have happened? Why can’t I just be mad?”
“Other people get to be angry! Why not me?”
“But you go there, so it must be special to you.” Carwyn mused with a softer smile; avoiding eye-contact as he took in his foreign surroundings. “Elephants like peanuts,” he nodded, for a moment forgetting to elaborate on that piece of information. “I like elephants,” the boy grinned— still not giving him the right answer. But to Love, it seemed to be sufficient enough, seeing that he had already started to twitter on about how majestic the tusked beasts were; most of which were things he learned from Knowledge, during the seldom moments he did listen. “They can grow up to ten feet! That’s like insanely tall, taller than both of us put together— well, just about.”
"Special, yeah," he said, tuning Carwyn out as he went off abut elephants. It was cute, yeah, but he wasn't too focused on his words right then. “Oh-- hey, menu.” Adrien passed the older spawn the menu, already knowing full well what he himself wanted to have.
A look of consideration shadowed his features, believing that the other spawn’s duty was quite relentless and not to mention unfair. This expression didn’t last for long, for with the tug came a winning grin. “Is it like your top secret safe place?” Carwyn teased; secretly hoping that it was something as special as that. “I don’t mind,” he shook his head, unable to wipe off his smile—not that he was trying. “I’ve never had Thai food, though. It’s not too spicy is it? My tongue would not be thankful for that, nor my stomach, I would imagine.”
"Top secret what? No, not-- well, kinda. Anyone can go there if they want, but most people don't want to. You'll . . you'll see when we get there," he said, giving a small shrug. "There's some spicy stuff, but it's not all like that. Do you like . . peanuts? You might like pad thai." Adrien flashed him a nervous grin, unsure - he didn't eat out with people often, but Carwyn was trustworthy.
“Yes, it does—” he uttered, actually capable of swishing the feeling of guilt in his mouth. “But what about like…I don’t know, Beethoven and Van Gough, they were both insane, brilliant but insane. Didn’t you feel happy when they created their works? There’s always a good type of insanity, isn’t there. You could be madly in love, and there’s no feeling better than that. And can’t you do the opposite? I mean, for me, I try not to get upset because it has an opposite effect on the mortals around me. But I guess it’s easier to sway emotions than thoughts…” Carwyn rambled, trying to fully comprehend how Adrien’s powers worked, just so he wouldn’t misunderstand them again.
“I . . No, not . . not really. I can mess people up pretty bad, yeah? And . . and when I-- I make ‘em better, it . . it messes me up. A lot.” Adrien slowed to a stop in front of the Thai place, then tugged Carwyn in. “Mind if we get carry out? I-- I know a place we can go, if you want; it’s . . well, nicer than here. Good food, but . . y’know, kinda a bad environment.”
“I’m pretty sure I have, Adri,” Calixa replied, turning to face him. “Why are you so angry today? It’s not like you.”
“I’m not angry!”
“I mean-- maybe a little angry. Somewhat angry. Kind of angry. But-- no, I’m fine.”
