Well Control
Well control refers to the methods and procedures used to manage the pressure of a well while drilling, completing, or producing from it.
The main goal is to prevent the uncontrolled release of fluids like oil, gas, or water from the wellbore into the surrounding formations or environment.
During drilling, engineers maintain the pressure of the drilling mud, which is a fluid circulated through the wellbore to remove cuttings and stabilize it.

Well control procedures are performed to prevent blowouts or uncontrolled fluid releases during drilling. Techniques like the One-Circulation Method, Two-Circulation Method, and Concurrent Method are used.
The One-Circulation Method lifts an influx to the surface in a single circulation, while the Two-Circulation Method uses separate systems for drilling mud and kill fluid.
The Concurrent Method is used for highly deviated or horizontal wells and involves drilling while installing production casing simultaneously.
Secondary well control comes into play if primary measures fail and involves diverting fluid flow, using containment devices, or drilling a secondary well. Tertiary well control is the final resort and involves specialized equipment like relief wells or pressure control devices.
