Nikolay ran his eyes up and down the blonde woman that stumbled towards him, inspecting her for any evident injuries she could possibly have sustained. His arms reached out to take her in, cold eyes still trained on the Huntress and her Lycan brother. “You know you could end this, Luke. I wouldn’t hurt you if it weren’t for him.” His voice was low, but he was sure the man understood him just fine. He lifted Sydney’s chin up, grabbed her arm where the small injection wound was still clearly visible. “We’re gonna fix you. They’ll regret hurting you, Sydney.”
Sydney remained uncharacteristically quiet. One wrong word and she was sure the young wolf would end her- not something she was particularly keen on. As she was shoved forward she bit her tongue to prevent some sort of comment from escaping. Her eyes went down to her arm, where the injection site was still slowly healing “Vervain- and they took samples of my blood for some reason. Science nerds. One was too scared to even come downstairs for more than two seconds. Wherever the hell the picked up those losers I’ll never guess but keep me away I don’t want their loserness to rub off on me or whatever- and I reek like dog, I’m sorry” her voice was hoarse and weak from hunger. Never in her life did she think she’d be so relieved in seeing this man’s face “I- uh- thank you, Nik. They will regret it- every single one of them” the smaller girl pushed the ring back onto her finger- relieved that she was allowed to keep it “I’m in. In your stupid game- I’m in as long as we start with those damn mutts”
Lily let her talk, not looking in the girls direction and kept herself busy with lab stuff; she had vervain on her and couldn’t get compelled but still didn’t want to give her a pleasure of reading her face expression. It was obvious even Aiden and Lily got deep into this and there was no way out, as it seemed. “If Sydney Moretti was really dead, you wouldn’t threaten me with ripping my heart out at the mention of your sister.”she said simply, moving the tubes to the side and grabbing her notepad. “Eye for an eye? Where does it end? We’re falling so low, the civilization, we’ll never improve.”Lily asked with a shrug of her fragile shoulders, turning to face Sydney. “Do you want to do this? Do you really want to this, Sydney? Come on, you must know this isn’t right, him dragging others into this. If you claim to know him know, then let him see he’s wrong, let him take this out of Beacon with his brother. This town has been through enough.”
Sydney ignored her comment, knowing that part of it was right. But it was a little more complex than that. She wasn’t like this before she died- she wasn’t aware of what she was capable of in order to survive and she wasn’t aware that her soul was linked to a monster. That alone spoke volumes to her- Liam himself had pointed that out in their brief conversation at the bar. ”This world is different than the human world, Lily. There is less right and wrong and more- do. It doesn’t matter what I want because I don’t get a choice. But Nik? Ivan? Even your friends- they all have a choice in how they go about things and they’re all doing the exact same thing. Because fundamentally all of us are the same. I know him well enough to know that trying to convince him off this warpath is hopeless. We’re all stuck in this now- Nik is relentless. Determined and- just everything you probably imagine him to be. I chose my side” Yes he forced her to do thing she didn’t want to do but there was a small sliver inside her that enjoyed those things. She enjoyed feeling the power she had over people and she knew that even without bending at his will there was a good chance she’d still do as he asked. Sydney was loyal to the man and the longer she was here speaking to this girl, the more prominent that became to her.
“No, I won’t - I don’t let others control me or my actions.”she stated firmly and used the moment while the girl spoke to swipe a stick into her mouth real quick. Once done, Lily moved back towards the table again, closing it and taking the marker to write down a name and number. Another laughed echoed through the room; she was warned about this, Syd was weak due to vervain so she’d probably use her mouth instead, maybe to try and get out or mess with her head. But Lily knew better than that; you don’t get to have two PhD’s at this age if you let others affect you too much. “I hope you realize at how much risk you are, especially with that kind of company. — You know what I think? It’s Nikolay talking out of you, you’re using plural so there’s that. I refuse to believe old Sydney Moretti - and yes I learned a few things about you - would approve of such acts and be completely fine with helping another person in a feud he has with his brother, hurt the innocent. You were a human not so long ago, you didn’t know him - I’m almost sure your sister would have good thing to say about old you as well. And what would you do if it was the other way around, if your sister was in Liv’s place? You need to try and understand where those boys are coming from, you’d do the same. None of this would be necessary if Nik and Ivan would just sort it between themselves. This way there are so many victims on both sides…”
“Sydney Moretti died” Her words were plain- void of most emotion. It was true in a sense, she was more or less a shell of the person she was before all of this and every moment she was still alive was another moment she used to push that life further and further from this life now. “And now I do know him and- I don’t really owe you an explanation as to why I do the things I do for him. I’m sure you all have your theories. I understand where they’re coming from but it doesn’t make it right- I mean how are they any better right now? Look at me. They’ve got poison running through my veins- do you have any idea what vervain feels like? The thing about Nikolay is once he has his mind set on something it’s hard to get him to back down from it- Ivan ruined his life so he’s ruining Ivan’s” The girl paused, watching as Lily busied herself with her work going from computer to tubes to whatever else she did “And don’t talk about my sister again. Or I will rip your heart out completely on my own free will, understand?”
Lily’s brows furrowed as the blonde spoke in such demeaning way about people she knew, but she figured it was the rivalry between them; not just the obvious one happening right now but also of the species. “I don’t play any games. Everything I do and believe in I put into science. That’s all that matters to me.”she explained, pulling out the second tube and the needle as well, moving away to place it away safely for when the time comes. A shudder run down her spine at the laugh; Lily was far from dumb, she knew very well why both her and Aiden had to stay with Liam now, and the thought of it scared her; only a fool wouldn’t be. Taking the swap stick in her hands, she opened it while walking over to the girl. “Why do you do this? You seem like a reasonable girl. But I read and heard about your kind, I know first year is the hardest. You and him, what’s the deal? Why do you participate in his sick little game? Kinley never did anything to you, yet you had your hand stuck in her chest. Just, why?”
“You will- you want some saliva too, I promise I won’t bite” They all were. Every single one of them since the moment her and Nik stepped foot in the small town they were already playing. They just didn’t realise it at the time. “You think I’m reasonable?” There was another laugh that echoed through the room. Maybe at one point she had been- before she met Nik but now all of that was thrown out the window. Between being obligated to do whatever he wanted her to and the fact that she knew deep down they were the same type of people- something she still struggled with admitting to herself the idea that someone could stand there and tell her that was laughable. “The first year is the hardest but I’m making my way through it. Nik is- well he’s just him and that’s all. I didn’t kill her- I don’t see what the big deal is, honestly. We haven’t done much to any of you- a little pain and trauma builds character. You should be thanking us, your lives were so boring”
Pressing her lips in a stiff line, Lily shook her head at the blonde. “The guys didn’t decide on anything. You know, I wish it never came to any of this, but it could have been worse; you made a really old Lamia and two Lycans really upset, so you tied down here on vervain is the best thing that happened after bumping into Jon and Luke.”she tried to explain, it really could have been worse, like her dying from a Lycan bite right now. “Worse? What do you mean? You think Nikolay will retaliate because you’re here right now?”she asked, and leaned closer to the girl, one of her arms resting on her forearm. Without a word more, she touched the vein and put a needle in it, extracting dark thick liquid. “Your blood structure is amazing, do you know that? I’ve been trying to replicate the healing process your blood does, it’s fascinating.”she said, pulling out one first filled tube and placing another. “Would you mind if I ask you a question, Syd?”
“Please- those dogs wouldn’t dare do anything that could result in their pretty little sisters neck being snapped. Don’t act like I’m lucky- we’re all playing the same game now. Whether you lot want to admit it or not” Sydney watched as her blood slowly filled the needle. Even if she wanted to move to try to attack the girl- the vervain and restraints made it virtually impossible. Probably the only reason Lily was allowed down her alone “You honestly think he won’t?” She laughed. Clearly they had learned nothing of the man so far. He was someone who was quick to anger when he didn’t get his way- the smallest thing setting him off. She had learned all that first hand “Yep- it’s pretty special” her words dripped with sarcasm as she spoke, her eyes lingering on the small woman “I’m not going anywhere so you might as well”
Stopping two feet from the blonde, Lily played nervously with her hands as Syd spoke; she seemed to be really in distress and who wouldn’t tied to a chair and injected with something that hurts. “I’m here to take samples. Simply as that. — Oh. I heard something… But I don’t know. I don’t know how this… Nikolay works. We just want Liv back. And instead of her, they found you.”she mumbled, moving over to the table where she put on a pair of gloves and grabbed her kit. “I’m sorry you’re in pain, Syd. But the guys said it’s necessary… For everyone’s good. No one wants to hurt you, we just want for this all to stop.”she said as she grabbed a needle and moved closer to Syd again. “This will only take a second. Or two.”
“Samples?” The blonde questioned, her eyes traveling to the lab equipment in the corner. She had wondering what two science geeks had to do with all of this but that seemed to answer her question. Science and this world coexisting was a weird thought. Without questioning it further she just let out a weak, raspy laugh- shaking her head as she turned to face the girl again “So ‘the guys’ decided that I get to be treated the same way Nik is treating Liv? It’s funny just how similar people can be. But this is for a good cause so that makes it okay, right?” Hypocrites. Then again everyone was a hypocrite these days, placing themselves these pedestals, thinking they’re better than everyone else “This is just going to make it worse, honestly”. The girl informed her, looking at the needle in Lily’s hand and rolling her eyes “Whatever you need to do”
Once at the bottom of the stairs, Lily stopped in her tracks, examining the girl - the vervain she was on seemed to be doing it’s work, it made her feel weak, tired, it was a sad image really. But she also knew just how dangerous she could be if not on vervain and restrained. “Syd. Alright. – I’m Lily. Kinda sucks we meet in such circumstances.”she said with a shrugged, stepping closer towards the vampire. “You think I’m down here to intoregate you? That’s not in my job description. I want to see Liv back as much as all of them, but surely they have their… methods, to get what they want out of you.”Lily said anc cleared her throat. It was so strange, to look at her like this, in Liam’s basement, someone who was just a normal girl living the life until she crossed paths with a Lamia on a mission. “Are you in pain, Syd?”
Sydney just looked at the girl- partly in disbelief by her kindness but also amused by her naivety. All of these people were on Nik’s list- they had to know that and yet here this small, British girl was offering pleasantries and idle chitchat. “Then why are you down here, Lily? Liv is safe- mostly. You should all know by now if we was going to kill one of you he’d make a show out of it” Her head lulled away, blue eyes focusing on anything but the petite woman. She was tired and weak which made her hungry but there was nothing she’d be able to do about that. They had made sure of that “No- no pain at all. Vervain injections every couple of hours is totally relaxing. This is like a spa day so thanks”
Upon hearing the news that Sydney is now trapped in the basement of Liam’s home, Lily felt unsure about going downstairs in the first place. Sure she’s been faced with supernatural already, but they were all in control or so, but Sydney… She had a hand stuck into her friends chest not so long ago. But after multiple reassuring that the blonde vampire can’t hurt her and that it’s safe, Lily decided to go downstairs; her curious side kicked in and she wanted to do what she was in that basement in the first place, collect samples and come up with solutions. And it seemed like no one else was going to go down there anyway, Luke and Jon seemed mad, Liam was concerned about Liv, and Aiden would run upstairs faster before you’d say biscuit. Slowly walking down the stairs, Lily walked over to where Syd was kept, eyes softly gazing upon the girl. “Sydney?”

With head head rested against the wall, Sydney looked to the small girl that appeared in the basement. Not many people had come down- a couple random question asking where Nik and Olivia were but she refused to answer. She was weak- the smell of vervain burned her nostrils- the skin around the area they injected it was burning- red and irritated. But she was alive so that was something. “Syd” She corrected the girl with her preferred name. Why they sent don’t a weak little human was beyond her. Probably some other attempt to get her to talk which wouldn’t work “Whatever it is don’t bother. My lips and sealed”

“Not sure he wants to avoid you, though.” Maybe they didn’t realize what they had gotten themselves into. They underestimated the situation and by all means, just because he hadn’t received the calling yet, didn’t mean he wouldn’t jump upon the chance to take them out. That was, if Liv was safe. “He wants Ivan. But he wants to destroy every connection he has before. His plan isn’t as original as he thinks it is. He’s using you because …apparently you’re just as fucked up as he is. But the thing is…why? Is he just that sick? Stop pulling innocent people into your fight. You can’t win this. There’s no possible outcome that lets you walk out of this alive.” He leaned closer, blue eyes focused on her. “Walk out of this in one piece while you can.”
“I don’t suppose he does. I’m sure he’ll get him moment sooner or later” Sydney wasn’t dumb. She knew the further they pushed Ivan the more likely he was to lash out and she knew she was quite possibly the only target the older vampire could use against his brother. But that wasn’t her choice to make. Nik was a very convincing man. “You guys got your warning, you could have left town, you could have walked away and let them hash this out on their own- I’m sure Ivan spent all night telling you all about his dear little brother. You don’t know the first thing about me or why I’m with him. I’m just as much caught in the cross hairs as you are. We’re just stuck on different sides- this is war, casualties happen. Is this all you’re here for? Or were you planning on trying to get me to spill secrets you know I never will?”
“I want to. But I also know that there are very, very angry Wolfboys out there that could kill you without another ones life being taken. You’re not worth it.” The smile was back on his face after he managed to catch himself again. It was no use losing your shit in a crowded bar right now. He couldn’t, and shouldn’t, allow this to disrupt his focus. The only way they could get Liv back was to outsmart them. “Well, if you don’t think my story is going to scare you then maybe you should sit down with Ivan. I’m sure his stories are more reasonable than mine, since I’m not part of that whole world. — What does he need her for, huh? What do you want?” This time, his voice was quiet. Almost desperate as he looked at the blonde woman and gripped his bottle tighter.
“You know, I think sitting down for tea with Ivan isn’t really in my best interest so I might avoid that one. Thanks for the suggestion though” It hadn’t even been a week since she was elbow deep in his girlfriends chest. Something she was sure he was still at least a little mad about. No, she would be avoiding that man like the plague until she had to get involved there again. For a second the younger blonde almost felt bad for the man. He was trying so hard to keep it together. There might have been times she silently questioned Nik and why he did what he did- even times she verbally did so though he was quick to silence those moments and at the end of the day her loyalty lay with him “She’s young and she’s pretty- let your mind do the work. I thought the message was loud and clear with Kinley though- if you haven’t figured out what he wants yet, you will. This is just the beginning”
